Unfortunately I missed the second half of the Canada/Iroquois game. My boys said it was a great ending though and that Iroquois really should have had the chance to win it at the end, not Canada.
I'll be curious to see what happens when they play the US but really expect the US to prevail.

Pool play is over homie. They finished at the top of their group, so now they play must-wins to get to the medals like a normal knockout bracket.

Yeah, complimentary players to Miles/Lyle are just not stepping up enough. Cody Jamieson and Randy Staats have been huge disappointments to me.

On top of that, their fatal flaw of not having an elite handpicked faceoff unit just kills their possession margin against a team like USA who has a high conversion rate on offense. They got absolutely dominated at the faceoff X and it led to them being at an astronomical possession disadvantage. If you evened out the possessions, I think the score is probably something like 12-8. If you gave the Iroquois the possession edge, I think they win. But that's not the way the game is played.

I'll tell you what though... their defense against Canada was legit because for all the penalties the hickory sticks were so brutal that Canada quit trying to go to goal by the third quarter. They couldn't take the beating. I think they need to revisit that physical defense approach, because both Australia and USA looked too comfortable.

Also, Ty being an alternate made sense on the surface, but right now I'm questioning that decision heavily. You can't tell me they wouldn't have been better off running with the full Albany attack line of Lyle/Ty/Miles than watching the third wheel struggle around mightily.

Cody Jameison the last 3 games... 1 for 7 shooting.
Randy Staats the last 3 games... 2 for 14 shooting.

That's just dreadful on every level. They have no chance unless these guys start burying their chances.

Scotland vs. Iroquois tonight 6 PM on ESPN3. Winner gets Canada.
Israel vs. Australia tonight 9 PM on ESPN3. Winner gets USA.

Both games should be decent. I've really liked what I've seen from Israel so far, they could pull the upset over Australia.

They actually competed really well. Finished atop their group (blew out France, Uganda, and Bermuda) and were put into contention for the championship bracket with the other lower-group winners. The group stage system is like Olympic women's hockey... all of the "best" qualifying nations start in one group so that opening rounds are more competitive, and (most) automatically advance after pool play, and the lesser teams start in groups where only the top team advances with a shot at the championship bracket.

Ireland, Scotland, Netherlands, Israel, New Zealand, Czech Republic, Germany, and Finland advanced to the championship knockout round. Ireland then got knocked out by Israel.

Israel and Scotland ended up advancing to the quarterfinal, which is where we're at today.

Ireland is in consolation play and just beat the Czech Republic 12-10, and is currently up on Switzerland 7-2. They're not going to medal, but they'll still finish respectably.

Scotland hanging around at half down 6-4. Lyle Thompson NOT playing for the Iroquois... he's at the ESPYs up for male athlete of the year. Big blow to the Iroquois offense.

Also, Scotland employing a zone which is working OK so far. Less vulnerability to dodgers.

Iroquois beat Scotland 10-8 and Australia hangs on in a dramatic contest against Israel 8-7. Both games were fantastic.

Iroquois take on Canada and USA will face Australia in the semifinals tomorrow.

Seriously though... Iroquois in trubs. Defense playing OK, but offense has gone to sleep. Complimentary players just not good enough and the finishing isn't what it needs to be. 2 full quarters of no scoring despite lots of good looks.

Hmmm, young ACamp may have been serviceable on the attack, my soccer, baseball and football careers were built, in part, on reckless abandon... I'm enjoying the watch though, hope the Iro can score a few more here
