As most of you know, margin of victory has been taken out of the BCS equation. Take a look at the impact it has on our BCS rank from Jeff Saragin, one of the six computer rankings.

Notre Dame 93.17 7 | 77.25 37

Currently, w/o that included we are 7th, with the margin of victory we would be 37th!! I'm sure glad they took it out. But I'm not sure I agree, I think would like to see it in there in the future.

It still hasn't stopped other teams from running up the score, but at least it isn't part of the BCS formula anymore, even though margin of victory still plays a part in the AP and Coaches Poll.

I'm glad it's gone. Running up the score on inferior teams is bush league. Plus, it may lead to someone getting hurt. I was at the PItt-UCF game when Wannstedt was trying to score in the last 30 seconds of the 1st half. The score was already 38-0. Fans were calling for UCF to cheap shot Palko and take him out. They obviously didn't do it, but what if it was FIU? Palko would be waving bye-bye to his NFL career.

I'm not for running up the score either, in fact I really hate it. But, in this senario I believe it is accepatable to get some real-time practice for your 2-minute drill. You may need it at a critical point during the season. You still have an entire half remaining. We made a pretty decent comeback at the MSU game. 30 seconds left in the 4th qtr, I agree you should just run it out, but in the first half I say keep playing. I remember an NFL playoff game with Buffalo and Houston. One of them (I believe it was Houston) was up 34-0 at the half and lost 35-34. Just my opinion.

i'm of the opinion that margin of victory should be in the rankings, but more of a binary "was it a comfortable win or a close win" kind of thing. it makes a lot of sense, because it still differentiates strong wins versus weak ones, but doesn't encourage RUTS.

I don't think coaches should always have to "run the game out" when the game is in hand. Give the second stringers valuable playing time/practice.

just ask Adrian Peterson about staying in the game to run up the score, I am sure he will tell you it is stupid

While you're at it, ask him about diving into the endzone when it's unnecessary. I'm sure he'd like to have a do-over.

he didn't dive, he was running all out, got tripped up, and just flat out fell into the endzone

I was wondering just which play in Stoops playbook calls for the Bell Cow to dive into the endzone ending his season.

I think it should be in there but a limit should be put on it, say 24 points. You don't get any additional weighting in you beat a team by 24 or 54. This would really hurt us this year becuase scUM killed us and we narrowly beat GT and MSU. But in future years I think it will help us. I think when you have a BCS formula to determine a champion and thus have the potential for several no loss teams or more importantly several one loss teams, you have to have to seperate them somehow. SOS is garbabe becuase teams have very little control over how their schedule will turn out. Just becuase you schedule Oklahoma for 2012, doesn't mean they'll be the same team then. So i believe margin of victory is more of an accurate portrayal of how good a team really is. This is just my opinion.

Apparently he didn't dive. I saw the video only once and it appeared to me that he did. It also looked as though the guys trying to tackle him were a yard or two back. It seemed unnecessary to me at the time, but if he was indeed tripped then it's obviously not his fault. Lets not jump to blaming the coaching staff either. Was there so little time that they could take a knee to run the clock out? I don't know, I didn't watch the game. If THAT is the case, then yes you do blame the coaches. Otherwise, if you run the ball to run out the clock, you can't just half ass it. They are pretty thin at RB there because guys transfered so they wouldn't be riding the bench behind this guy. I don't know the situation there, but you don't want to risk a turnover either.

what was it 29 to 6 in the fourth quarter. you don't have to put in your back up to just take a knee. let him get some carries and experience. you don't have your major weapon and heisman hopfull in the game against a scrub with a three score lead in fourth quarter it was a bad call, they were just trying to put on a show for his dad and the heisman voters while trying to run up the score

Agreed except this was UCF, not WVU or UL. Nobody was coming back in this one. And he didn't have 2nd stringers in either. I thought it was just an attempt to beat up on a clearly lesser opponent hoping it would gain your team some style points on the national scene.

But then again, how often has Wannstadt had the opportunity to pound anybody?

I can agree with that. I don't think you can lay all the blame on the coaching staff, though. I'm sure with his Dad present (for the first time in 12 years) and the Heisman race, he wanted to be in there. I'm not on the sidelines to hear the communication, but you know he didn't ask to come out. It really doesn't matter now, he's done for the season. I wonder how the NFL will look at him. You have to be concerned about him being injury prone.

Great point. I'd say, oh, NEVER. I'm a Dolphins fan and was happy to see him go. Of course, I'm not too thrilled with how they're still doing!:verysad:

that has been my question about him the hole time he has been at OU. has he had a full season yet? Everyone knew this was going ot happen once they gave their QB the boot
