With Ronald Talley now gone from the football team, who would you like to see take his spot as the backup DE?

Or who do you think it will be? Why?

Ryan is already backing up Abiamiri, but I could see him getting some reps on the other side.

Leitko could be an option, but he's been the third DT. If Hand could earn some minutes at DT, that would free up Leitko to play more end.

Brown seems to have dissapeared. It didn't help not being able to distinguish himself from Talley.

I'm not sure Richardson has the size or strength to be more than a pass rush specialist yet.

Has Wade played this year? I think his upside is major, but I'd bet on him preserving a year.

My vote would be Ryan getting reps on both sides. Which surprises me less than it will others. I predicted last year that he would prove better than his ratings. At Iggie's, he often dominated against some of the best competition in the country.

I put Wade in there for the hell of it. I don't think he is ready physically.

I'm not sure he is, either. And I think he came in lacking in technique. But he has the athleticism, and from what I understand, the work ethic and attitude that can make him a very good DE. If there's a future Tuck on this team-a lanky but strong and rangy DE who can quickly get to the passer, it's Wade.

My bet is Ryan....he will float from side to side and be THE back-up DE for the Irish.

I'd like to see Morrice in the game more as a third down specialist. He seemed to really get penetration when I saw him in there against Penn State, and with some lessor opponents coming up, he could really use this PT to develop... as could all of our young linemen.

Which brings up another question. If the Irish can end up with Nagel, Paskorz, Wilson and Donald, I wonder if Richardson might stay at DE. Or might we see him getting more OLB snaps next season?

I agree.
He's got a long way to go before he can become a run stopper though.
But as a pash rusher, his best attribute is his speed off the snap.
Watch him, he's off the ball before any other D Lineman. Even Derek.
But if he doesn't beat his man around the outside, he's essentially blocked for the play.
A counter trap to his side on 3rd down could be a big play for the opposition.
Depending upon the opponents' strengths on offense, Victor and Morrice could swap sides though.

I know relatively nothing about these guys..... other than that they havn't seen the field much. My bet is that the freshmen are too under-sized and too inexperienced for them to log the majority of the time. Have Ryan and Wade even played yet? I wonder if Weis might try to preserve their red-shirt, even if we are thin as hell.

Ryan's been playing as Abiamiri's primary back-up. He gets a few snaps here and there to rest Victor.

Reminds me of how the Dolphins have utilized Jason Taylor since they have gone to the 3-4 alignment. He's smaller than JT, (by about 4 inches and 30 pounds) but if he's got the quickness he could do it.

My guess is Ryan, although Wade would be an option ! I agree, Wade has killer potential once he fills out, providing he stays fast !

I say Ryan, but I like Richardson's abilitiy to rush the passer. so, he would probably see alot of action in passing situations.
