Where was this posted? I didn't know about Zibby being hurt either.

Fellas...let me preface things by saying that I love Zibby to death. He's a great kid and represented the University with nothing but class. With that being said, this could be the best thing that could have happened to us.

Zibby is an absolute liability in the Defensive backfield, especially when we come up against spread type offenses. Let's see what Ray-Ray can do. There's a reason we're ranked so far down the ladder in overall defense in the country and perhaps Herring could provide some answers.

For those who've been hunting for Osama bin Laden in the caves of Afghanistan for the past week and haven't seen the 8,000 posts discussing Zibby getting his bell rung on a punt return against Purdue... Zibby got his bell rung on a punt return against Purdue. :) He looked kinda "out of it" for the rest of the game and apparently hasn't fully recovered yet.

Go Ray-Ray! Show those boys how to play D!

No, I mean against Purdue.

I save my insults for Bahstahd College and the University of Spoiled Children. I have a bit more respect for everyone else on our schedule.

... of course, then I just looked my original post and realized I said "Stanford" when I meant to say "Purdue." Gah. I need more sleep.

Zbikowski took a shot to the head that bent his neck on a punt return against Purdue. Seemed to be favoring his left shoulder

Now, if or when Ray ever gets drunk....is he then 'Pickled Herring'?
Just wondering on blowout Saturday.

Was it Herring who hit the Purdue tight end at the goal line and knocked the ball loose and separated player from helmet? I was in the stands at that end, but with no video screens, its hard to see numbers from when things happen so fast. The helmet rolled through the endzone. I'd still rather have Zibby out there but if Herring is gonna hit like that we might be ok.

In a game like this i'm excited to see how herring plays coverage. If he can cover at all he is going to be a star because he hits harder than anyone.

I thought Herring did well today. I always thought seeing Tommy Z at linebacker would be a better fit for him and we should've brought in a faster safety. I didn't see too much fall-off from Z to Herring today, which is reassuring considering Z is on his way out. However, I love Tommy and there was a mention today that he gave the thumbs-up sign when asked how he was...meaning that it was Charlie's decision to hold him out going into the bye-week.

Herring looked dynamite today. He was in on many plays and really put hits on or wrapped the defender up. That spot looks bright.

That is a very good point SVO, there was a lot of times when Herring made the tackle and really wrapped up well. That was the one thing that I was most impressed with.

I thought as far as tackling went he was solid, as far as coverage though he seemed to be a little uncomfortable. In some spots it seemed like he had help for a corner deep and was a little slow getting over and on the other hand was a little slow to make up ground on post routes in cover 2 settings. happy with the way he played, kinda wanted to see Bruton get a look there as well

kid's a natural Strong Safety, which is good I guess since Zibby'll be gone soon. I just wish they could find someone who slips into the Free Safety role a little better, they always seem to be playing two strong safeties:-/

Injury hell! Charlie's spies read IrishEnvy!

They caught the dialog in the thread, "Charlie's Practice Regimen". BTW, I heard Hammond or Haden note during the game that Aldridge was running in LIVE TACKLING Drills the past week. Kudos to NDAlumSon for getting the ball rolling.

Hey AlumSon, didn't Herring look solid tackling? Looked like he was putting shackles on the ball carriers.

Yeah well.......until you actually do, there's no nutritional value in words alone.

To stay with your example, first you were complaining that the children weren't chewing properly all the time, now you claiming they don't eat one third to one half of what's on their plates! Apparently that live action fork drill you ran after lunch wasn't the answer.

They're not 5 year olds. They're 20. They know there are consequences for their actions or inactions.

"Zbikowski no dessert Saturday for not finishing off your Lymon. Herring you're starting against Stanford."

Words have a hell of a motivational value, particularly when served cold at a team film review. The whole room gets the message, even the non-vegetarians.

BGIF, I didn't hear that from Hammond and Haden. Is that what they said?
Regardless, the team tackled much better Saturday.
Herring played a hell of a game for his first one out of the box.
Nicely done Ray.

Talking about guys who got a chance to play, I thought that Vernaglia made some nice plays. It was nice to see him get into the game and make a strong contribution.

I almost fell off my chair when I heard the live tackling comment. I assumed it was for Aldridge's benefit not the defense's. Getting him some contact before it counted. But it fit well with our discourse of the past week as did Herring starting in place of Zibby.
