I have been an Irish fan all my life, grew up just west of South Bend, watched nearly every football game, missed family functions, stayed in on awesome fall Saturdays to watch games, and still been there every game since 1988 while ND has fallen from the top ranks. It is unbelievable how many bandwagon fans there are with the good of ND. I am tired of the whole "a good Notre Dame team is good for college football" talk. Then turn around once they have a team just to say ND is over rated and such. In my opinion, ND is college football.

Why cant we as fans of ND just take a loss like men and let it be. None of this "we" were not ready and play the blame game. I don’t know about you, but I know I was ready; I did my part on Saturday as a fan. I had my beer, brats, and snacks ready. I invited the Michigan fans over to have a great day, and that’s exactly what we did. My ND flag was raised at my house and still is.

It’s about time the excitement is back. Let the game be and enjoy ND being considered one of the best programs out there again. Remember, young kids make mistakes, and then they overcome them, that’s life. IT IS A GAME, always has, and always will be. Yeah I was sad, pissed off, and all the other emotions that any real fan would be, but I was sad for the team, I know the feeling of what it feels like to give it my all, just to fail. I bet every person on here knows that feeling. How about we act like respectable humans and applaud the team we had out there on Saturday.

" ... I was sad for the team, I know the feeling of what it feels like to give it my all ..." Critiquing a play is one thing, carte blanche whinning because a fan now can't wear his ND gear because HE'S embarassed is another. You rightfully point out this is about the team.

The whinners make it about themsleves. "Worse game I've ever seen." "I'm embarassed to be an ND fan." "I'm gonna get ragged at work from my coworkers."

How about we act like respectable humans and not like a Miami fan and applaud the team we had out there on Saturday.

Cheer, Cheer!

This sounds kind of silly, but every week during the season we fly an ND flag from the house beginning Thursday. It stays up until Saturday night or Sunday morning, when we put out the Bengals flag. Saturday night the wife asked if we should go ahead and switch the flags out. I wouldn't do it. Even though I was expecting some ribbing from the neighbors. I left it up until right before kickoff of the Bengals game. No jumping ship, here.

Scooper,

I'm with you on the flag, although mine stays up from August 1 to the bowl game (I'm not much of an NFL fan). Although, much to my chagrin, I recently had a new neighbor move in down the street. One of the first things he did after mocing in was hang his Go Blue Michigan flag when he saw my ND colors. He's a pretty good guy, despite his affilation. And he came over today, and I thought he was going to stick it to me, but he was honest. He thought Michigan had no shot to win before kick off, and because of that he wouldn't rub it in ... but just watching that flag is tough enough.

It was one game. Michigan played better. Like Lloyd Carr said after the game, if you're around long enough, you're going to win a few and lose a few when playing vs. Notre Dame. Things just snowballed after that early int. return for a score, although we do have some weaknesses that need to be fixed pronto.

Whether the Irish are 11-1, 7-4 or 5-6 (which will never happen under Weis), the flag flies at full staff.

I could care less about getting ragged. That doesn't matter to me. However, that "was" one of the worse performances of late. It's not the worst I've ever seen though. And it did seem as if we were not prepared mentally and emotionally. However, I also believe that as bad as that loss was, we can still run the table. I will be there next Saturday on my couch ready to cheer again. But because I say that stuff, I'm a bandwagon fan? Do band wagon fans watch almost every game during the Davieham era? I've played sports and I know what coming in mentally and emotionally unprepared is like. They didn't match Michigan's intensity. That's just the way it is. That doesn't mean I'm going to stop cheering. I just think many of the fans drunk too much of the kool-aid and didn't see this team for what it is. A good team with several flaws. They also know that the next couple of years could be hard to take (seniors leaving). I'm sorry, but I did not see them giving their "all" Saturday. That being said, I expect ND to be 10-1 going in to SC.

I could not agree with you more! My flag went up at the start of the season and will not go down until the end of the season. Win or Lose it's Notre Dame all the way!

Our bandwagon is ridiculous. I was in a class with a friend and we saw this kid who is a complete dumb*** wearing a Notre Dame hat.. so I tell my friend that I doubt he even knows where Notre Dame is.

So I pose the question: "Hey Matt, which state is Notre Dame in again?"
His answer: "Um... how should I know?....um, California?"

Jesus wept.

Some people just have to understand that people deal with losses differently. I have to step away for a while and process what just happened. Then I have to talk it out. I have to express my feelings and then discuss what I saw out of the game. Sometimes, that discussion is not good, but that doesn't mean I should be considered less of a fan. I love this team. I will watch every game this year no matter what. Losses hurt man and when they are by 26 pts they hurt more. When that 26 pt deficit is the result of 5 turnovers, then it hurts even worse. I've played the sport before. There's nothing good about the feeling you have, when you know you didn't play your best. You have to deal with that and move on. I think we will and we will have a great season. Go Irish!

Yes, I agree that everyone "deals" with losses differently, but I'd like to believe that no one EVER really deals with a loss. Losing is like eating dirt. Once you have the taste in your mouth, the only way to rinse it out is to win the next one. Mich State better watch out because we're coming and sticking it to them this week.

In addition, I like your idea that people react differently to losses and your reaction is to talk it out. I have a show on HBO that I watch religiously called "Entourage" and it's about a movie star, his buddies, and his agent. Anyway, his agent consistently gets them into tight spots and irons them out. After doing this, he uses the expression, "Let's hug it out bit*h". I love that expression and would like to use it in this instance. ND Nation, let's hug it out bit*h!!
