Without sounding like some old fogey (Mike, dick-- ya'll lurking in this thread?), I've become a big fan of Masterpiece Mystery. I DVR everything on there. Not to help my cause in sounding like somebody that eats his dinner at 4:30 as well, is that it was my parents who turned me onto MM.
It did, however, take me a little while to warm up to Sherlock. But yeah, 3rd season was great. The thing that stood out to me was this season was the comedic value-- I literally cracked up at some of the things said/done. The rest was great too, but it seems like we (the audience) and they (the cast) are all very comfortable with one another now, and they kind of let their hair down, so to speak. Can't wait for the next season.
And speaking of seasons, it kind of makes me mad that a "season" is only 3 episodes here. I believe the BBC airs each episode in 2 parts in the UK, so it's 6 episodes there. I wish it was like a cable drama-- 10-14 episodes.
I really enjoyed Case Histories, Inspector Lewis, Endeavor, and Zen (I think that's what it was called) as well. There was one that was kind of blah to me- Silk. But the others were all fantastic. I've only been watching for a 2-3 years, so I'm sure there are some other great ones out there as well.
I do have a worry about Sherlock though. I know Benedict Cumberbatch is kind of blowing up as an actor (particularly in the UK), so I hope he stays. I guess the guy who plays Watson is as well, but not like Cumberbatch. Not sure if it was on the Netflix version, but the PBS version for this season had a sort of behind the scenes after each episode. I thought it was interesting that the guy who plays Mycroft is actually one of the creators/executive producers of the show. Also, Watson and his lady are a couple in real life. Thought that was cool.
