Any news on Michigan TE Ecker?

Woah! This is pretty big news if he cannot go this weekend. He was a significant piece in the game last year and I expected him to be a huge weapon this weekend. Anyone know anything for certain?

He had his biggest game of the season last year against us - 7 catches for 75 yards. No more than 3 catches in any other game.

Here is the link to the "undisclosed injury" blurb.

No green light on Irish

Former coach Bo Schembechler said extending the series with Notre Dame is not something he would pursue, even if college football purists think otherwise.

"I would say the Notre Dame series was important when Penn State wasn't in the league," he said.

The series with the Irish is set through the 2011 season.

This note was at the end of that article. Might be old news, but I was not aware of this. It would definitely be a shame to lose this rivalry.

Well, it appears that the other players that were injured are all listed as playing this weekend. With Eckers, it does not say a thing. Interesting. I take it as he won't suit up.

I would not make that assumption. OyDDD is the king of clamping down on the status of injuries. We probably won't know more for sure until Saturday.

Considering the competition so far, shouldn't you make that "0" a little smaller?

You're going to hate me by Saturday.

Did you hear anything? Did he get injured during the Central Michigan game or what it something that happened during the week's preparation for the game and he was not 100% and it was decided that they were winning and did not need to play him if they didn't have to?

He was fine before the CMU game, played in the first half and made one catch for 8 yards. As the Free Press reports, he was in street clothes for the second half.

The half time score was 24-10. So maybe removing him from the game was just precautionary, maybe not.

Another great part of the article at the "undisclosed injury" link was the report card in the side bar. They gave special teams a B+. Here's the description "Central Michigan's Eric Fraser averaged 31 yards on five kick returns and had two of 40-plus yards. Where's the coverage? Garrett Rivas made both of his field-goal attempts.
Coaching: B+"

Now I'm hoping we only get to test their kick return defense once or twice, but I'll love our field position if we can average 31yds/return

First: Bo just sounds like a bitter old man.

Second: Mike (or is it Pat) Massey is a pretty good TE

Third: Has anybody heard anything about Bass? I know he is not playing, I was just wondering if anybody knew what the injury was and if he will play again?

I have not heard any news on Ecker, but let me clear something up. He is probably the biggest walking disappointment on offense, even more so than Henne.

Ecker was highly touted, but he never lived up to his potential. He's been in Ann Arbor forever, and I am of the opinion that he's actually regressed. He was horrific last year. Not only did he drop key passes, he couldn't block at all. He lost more and more time to Tim Massequoi, and my feeling is that Mike Massey will actually be better than Ecker. Regardless, it isn't a big loss at all.
