I'm not one to get into a war of words with fans from an opposing team[yeah right] but my blood is starting to boil. Heres an example from the thread on NittanyFootball.com: ON CW.... " He's nothing but a big, fat, pig, just like fat Phil in Tennessee. No class, no respect for the legends of the college game, just a guy who knows offense". AS my father used to say,"never argue with an IDIOT"but I must say it gets my IRISH up to say the least. Can't wait to see what they say after we put a good ass whoopin on them come saturday!!! and as ALWAYS GO IRISH!!!!!

yeah, they are saying worse things than that as well, no class at all. its sad to see their immaturity stoop that low and yet, they still think they are right. ND should give them a reason to never open their mouths again, period.

I know it's not PC, but here's something I try to keep in mind when I'm online:

"Arguing on the internet is like running in the Special Olympics. Even if you win, you're still a retard."

I see a lot of this "the opposing team's fans are classless" stuff on a lot of ND boards across the internet and I think we have to stop considering ourselves the "golden fans" of college football.

Please understand that I am a huge ND football fan (My Dad actually calmed me down as a baby by holding me like a football and marching up and down our hallway while singing the ND fight song, no joke!) and I am not saying this to stir up crap, but I am a student at Marquette University and last year a bunch of my buddies traveled to the ND v. MU basketball game at the Joyce Center and got some really low comments from ND students after we won that were not provoked at all.

Believe me, I'm also not saying that MU students are perfect by any means, but I think that we have to realize is that, like most people on these boards, we are all very passionate about sports and our respective teams and sometimes get caught up in it. We really need to stop judging other people so much based on this high standard that we ourselves aren't always living up to.

And I’m not saying that other people’s comments are not highly inappropriate at times, because sometimes they are, but if we’re the classiest of college football fans, then maybe we should just stop talking crap back and let our guys shut them up on game day.

Same here meballos. It's unbeliveable how arrogant and nasty their fans are. All they do is bash Weis, Catholics, etc..... I hate UPS with every bone in my body. Their fans are classless and think that UPS is the only team that exists in college football. Every player on their team is the next big thing. All they do is drink the UPS kool-aid and say how great Happy Valley is (To anyone with a brain in their head, Happy Valley is full of cow pastures and nothing else). They talk on their boards like they should be favored to win. They cry about how nobody respects them. Don't get me wrong, they have a very talented defense, but their offense is too inexperienced to win a game in South Bend. Too bad Michael Robinson isn't still there to save them on all those 3rd and longs with his legs like he did all last year. They fail to forget how TERRIBLE UPS is on the road (Lost to a 7-5 Michigan team and needed a 4th quarter comeback to beat, of all teams, Northwestern and I've seen high school stadiums with better and louder atmosphere's than Northwestern's). It's Morelli's first road game for crying out loud. I guess next year I'll be able to say,"Well it's Evan'/DJ/Zach/or Jimmy's first road game, we should win in Happy Valley" (Haha, riiiiiiiiiiiiight).

I saw on one of their message boards awhile ago that they one poster claimed a 3rd string RB was comparable to Steve Slaton (Very laughable, comparing a 3rd string RB who never started a game to a starting RB on a team that won the Sugar Bowl last year).

And WHEN ND wins Saturday, you'll hear "The Big Ten refs cheated, we were supposed to win, blah blah blah". The game can't get here fast enough.

Welcome felllow PA residents - PSU fans are the reason I hate PSU. PSU never lost game it was always someone elses fault. And since we're throwing out snappy one-liners - PSU fans have more excuses than a pregnant nun.

But, everyone knows.....it only makes the sport better. People who talk a lot of trash may be obnoxious, but they undoubtedly add to the game.

This statement is so true at least in northeast Pa. News has been running stories about the bars that are expecting a big day because of the game. I'm having about twenty people over my house and 16 are PSU fans. So it's a must win for me.

Ditto PA residents. Nothing is more frustrating when PSU continually compare their team to ND's year in and year out. FINALLY, there will be no running from the TRUTH. It will be settled on the field where it belongs. Then, after ND wins of course, I will do my leprechaun dance to the store to pick up a Sunday paper to see how PSU "graded" out. PSU coverage in the Sunday paper is over 60% of the sports page. Oh well, if I wanted, I could get USA Today, but I'm especially looking forward to the fan responses and excuses for how PSU plays.

Actually, a lot of PSU fans came to our game last year (since some students sold their tickets since the game was during a study break), and I found them pretty classy. There were some exchanges, but it was all in good fun. They were much better than OSU fans.

Regarding this whole "anti-Catholic" line that ND fans always use, I would like to see some proof. You can't just quote some nut from the web and then cast dispersions on everyone. One wonders whether this "holier-than-thou" attitude is a reaction to anti-Catholic fans or an independent expression in it of itself. Personally, I am strongly against comments that defame a religion, but I'm also strongly opposed to fans using their faith to disparage other groups (i.e. "God is on our side"). I really think that kind of stuff has no place in athletics.

Absolutely! Luckily I don't work in the same place every day so I don't have to hear it but my wife has been listening to smack all week long as nearly everyone where she works is a PSU fan. The whole State really does love PSU, it's not just a central PA thing. It evens out just a bit in the big cities mainly because of higher concentrations of Catholics and those of Irish heritage who follow ND. But we have to listen to crap constantly and see those dopey bumperstickers about PSU, God and the color of the sky.

I want this win, not just for the sake of ND's record and fortunes but so I can shove it in their faces.

In Maison's defense, he is merely quoting a very popular Internet phrase. If you put it through Google you will see tons of images attributed to it.

It does not make it right, but it's pretty common.

And I am probably over-reacting, but when you work with these types of individuals day in and day out, even hearing that word drives you to anger.

There are alot of ignorant (and i am not saying that maison is ignorant by any means and I apologize that I assumed that he was making fun of the mentally handicapped) people who use that word often without thinking about what they are saying. Hopefully these same people never have to endure seeing a friend or family member who is diagnosed with with a mental or physical disability have to live with this diagnosis. Don't mean to go off on a rant, and again I apologize maison.

Also remember that ad hominem attacks (like those against CW's weight, for example) are the last defense of a weak argument.
