Weis acknowledged that the Irish are indeed recruiting juniors, but it's not his philosophy to offer numerous juniors and take the first to commit.
"If you're going to go on a junior, you have to be willing for them to say yes," Weis said. "So if you make a mistake on a guy two years early, that's a major mistake. There's always contingencies -- them doing everything right academically and all those other things -- but you're very slow on (juniors). You don't go jump all over those because you better have a lot of evidence."
By evidence, he means video, and perhaps a few days of personal viewing if the player attended Notre Dame's camp.
"You have them in camp for a week and then you watch tape," Weis said, "sometimes you feel good enough about going and flipping the switch on them."
Any flip of the switch, however, doesn't come quickly.
"I'd rather be under the philosophy that you be a little slower and ask guys that you want to say yes rather than guys you're hoping they wait until after the guys better than them have said no," Weis said. "When we offer a guy, it's because we want him to say yes."
