As it stands, Michigan holds a minute lead in winning percentage.

Michigan: 849-280-36 = .74421
Notre Dame: 811-266-42 = .74352

Of course, both percentages round to .744.

But after this year, this shouldn't be an issue!

We both play 12 games this year. I believe to accomplish the feat, all we have to do is win one game more then Michigan does. So if they go 9-3, we need to go 10-2, etc.

There are too many ways to spin it...

HOWEVER, if we simply win 1 more than they do...we get ahead.

So if we go 5-1 and they go 4-2...we are in the lead.

We simply need to have a better record.

If you have EXCEL simply put their record in as well as ours...

From there, you can play with it by making some changes...and then you can get fancy and add in W/L (your excel sheet it should look like this):
Wins Losses Ties TOTAL Avg
UM 849 280 36 1165 0.744206009
ND 811 266 42 1119 0.743521001
2006 Wins Losses
UM 0 0
ND 0 0

The current records should look like this (notice I added a link to the 2006 W/Ls)
[for UM] =849+B5 =280+C5 =36+D5
[for ND] =811+B6 =266+C6 =42+D6

The W/L calcs should read like this:
=(B2+(D2/2))/E2
=(B3+(D3/2))/E3

If you don't know excel...then this will be garbage... Just take my word. 1 more win than they have pushes us over the top.

You got it. By my calculations we take the lead if we win one more game than them. However, if we want to take the lead rounding to 3 decimal places only, we need to win 2 more games than them.

Can you check that with your excel calculation? I don't use excel, but did mine by hand.

Just for the record...we need to go 11-2 to move us up to 745 (rounded to 3 decimals = .74470).

We need EXACTLY 29 wins in a row (with NO losses) to move up to .74500000.

If the Condoms are good for over 30...I figure we should be good for 40.

:eek:grin:

this could happen.
For 6 years holtz was 64-9-1 and two of those losses were to bill walsh.
those were the best college football players as a TEAM and some of them as individuals that the ncaa has ever seen. There were a few coaches that could have taken those players and won a national championship all 6 years. That statement is very "iffy" I'll agree. It is very hard to keep players mindset in that type of a direction every week...but I really hope that weis has that type of mentality to steer the players with that type of attitude and not let it get out of hand.
We may never see the type of players holtz had as a team ever again, but what i saw last year in the attitude of the players...I think we have a winner as a coach.

3 minutes too late LMI!

Actually a day too late!

I posted that ND would regain the lead with win in the UM/ND game, yesterday.

http://www.irishenvy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10481&page=2

There's more to it than just a game. <HR style="COLOR: #ffffff" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->In 1920 Notre Dame took over the #1 spot as the winningest percentage team in college football. ND held that spot until late in 2003.

Michigan which started playing football before ND and held a marked advantage in the 1800's when the calibre of play was largely at the club level took over the #1 spot for the first time in their history.

IF UM and ND both open the '06 season 2-0 and ND wins the UM/ND game, the Irish recapture the #1 slot.

Hoekwater knows that the days of Davie and Willingham are over. But even they had 50/50 shot of beating Lloyd. He realizes with Charlie in charge he won't see the light of victory again.
