- Navy played real well on offense.

- Option defense is not Diaco's cup of tea.

- Tarean is looking real good. He is our best RB period.

- Field looked sloppy, it's about time for that turf.

- OL looked good today as they should.

- Hope the big guys on the DL are OK.

If we score TD's on the two Tommy INT drives the game looks entirely different. You dint agree with that?

Literally when I saw it was a reverse, I screamed some profanities because I saw SOOOOO MUCH open field from where I was. But then Hardy and Smith saved the day.

We missed Nix badly today on defense.

If we run back all of the kickoffs for TDs, then the game looks entirely different, right?

I can see assuming that we get a TD on the first interception. We had a 7 play, 52 yard drive going. But on the second INT? Why would you assume that we score a TD on that drive? The interception came on the first play of the drive.

I think its a fair assumption to assume we score. Not necessarily touchdowns, but at least score. They didn't stop us once the whole day.

Again...it's quiet in here. One messed up play and we'd be full of jack holes.

Jaylon, a true Freshman, made THE most important play of the game, and arguable our season to this point.

-I have no clue why we were passing so much at the beginning being we were running at will

-2 Freshman made key plays to win the game, Folston all night, and Jaylon at the end.

-I don't get the D. We play so well last week and some prior. We seem to be coming into our own, and then this happens. Coach? Players? Injuries? Navy?

-Cam may be sexy and hardnosed, GA III may have straight line speed and break it at any time, but Folston is the most complete back we have and should be the horse. He has shakes, speed, vision, follows his blocks well, power, basically everything that the rest of our backs combined have. All in one package. Beautiful

Come on, Navy didn't show any signs of stopping them all day. Obviously nothings a guarantee but you have to figure ND gets something there.

Take the C from Bennett and give it to Jaylon.

That is all.

Whoa. Stop the J Train. He's not at that level yet. And I don't mean on field play. I mean everything else that includes. Spond is mentoring him, and doing great. He isn't the one leading, he's following.

And subtract the points from the drives that stall when you try to run on 3rd and 8. Being one-dimensional is NEVER good, no matter who you are playing.

Given that the original point that kmoose responded to was a premise about not throwing at all today and winning by 21, and since Navy didn't stop ND in part because of ND's success with balance throwing and running, I find it entirely fair to question the original comment

As far as Jaylon, I'm basing this off of nothing but, it seems in games like today he is thinking first and acting second. He needs to use his instincts and be proactive. If you make a mistake, learn from it the next time. You've done it well all year, lets get back to it.

I may be mistaken but I thought you said that it wouldn't matter because we couldn't stop them. Well if we score on those possessions (which your right it's an assumption that you were saying wasn't accurate) that's 14 pts us and they would still have gotten the ball back on KO's like they did on the turnovers. To adress the assumption they knew we were going to run in the 3rd and 4th and couldn't stop us. Our rushing stats were insane, I dont think it's a stretch to assume we score 10+ pts on those two possessions.

Tommy's 2nd pick, while a bad throw, was also a poor effort on Daniels' part.

Fresmen had an excellent game.

Irish could of had an extra body or two in the box on defense.

Tommy played good. Real pleased with the offensive play calls.

Cam is half machine half bull.

Really disappointed with Amir Carlisle, really had high-hopes for the kid.

Again, TJ is huge for the offense.

ND is (bar-none) Tight-End University.

GO IRISH!!!!!!!!!

Even if we'd have scored those two TD's the talent gaps we have on this team would still be evident. We are a #25 team because that's the kind of talent we have. Kelly either needs to step up recruiting at all position groups, or we're going to continue to be a program that consistently struggles to win even against average teams and gets smoked by BCS caliber teams. It is clear we have turned no corner as a program in year 4 of Kelly's era and are stuck in the second tier of college football teams. I believe Kelly and his staff are good coaches, but they are only going to go as far as recruiting takes them.

For the record the comment about running every play I don't agree with nor is it realistic, nobody does that. I do think points there changes the game and I can easily see us scoring there.

I mostly meant the first part. Point is we are getting awesome production at key moments from our freshmen, whereas our senior captain consistently gets burnt week after week.

Navy's option exposed the lack of speed (Smith being the exception) that we have at safety and linebacker. This is a weakness that is not going away and will prevent us from being an elite team next year as well.

Secondly, Kelly needs to fire the Special Teams coach after the season. We are terrible in kickoff coverage and kickoff returns and it almost cost us the game today.

Couldn't agree more, Brindza executes a near perfect kick pinning the Navy returner in the corner and he gets it to midfield!

I am just gonna throw this out there. A few years ago I knew a guy that played defensive tackle for a FBS team. They played a team that ran the TO. A team that really didnt belong on the same field as my friends team. He told me that the other d linemen were worried about blowing out knees because of the way blocks were thrown. There was even one guy that was projected NFL draftee. He said he was considering tanking it to keep from injury on one of the of the final games of the season, and a game that carried little importance.

My question is, could the Irish d linemen have a little apprehension for the same reasons?

I understand people getting on the D but I hope some understand how difficult it really is to defend the option when its run to near perfection.

Next week ND will play a 'normal' offense and will have Nix back in and defensively will be back in their comfort zone.

only other thing i could add to this statement and even MM touched on it. 2 weeks in a row that our defensive line had to deal with cut blocks and most of the ND defense was still nursing bruises from the AF cut blocks. this may be the reason diaco didnt load the box with 8. Enter navy who runs the triple option even better than anyone other than maybe GT. I take nothing away from navy they played a hell of a game. hate the imo cheap *** cut blocks.

I completely disagree. Lets not forget we entered the season starting a back up QB, replacing quite a bit of O-Line, phenomenal TE, and our LBs and RBs. We are #25 because consistency across the board isn't there, not our level of talent.

Let's not overlook the fact that Eilar Hardy made the initial play that disrupted the reverse. And Bennet Jackson was the first person to get a hand on the ball carrier, and turn him back in to Jaylon Smith.

It's one game, one stinking game. We are top ten in most wins over the last 3 seasons right?

My praise for Jaylon in this game goes as far as the last play and maybe one or two more. He cost us more than he didn't in this game it seemed.
