From perusing other boards, it seems Stoops may have picked up a new interest in Ryan Mallet. There are also rumors that Mallet is interested considering the change in the depth chart.

There is a tremendous opportunity now, for a young QB at OU. maison, any input? Are Michigan fans at all nervous?

Wow, that would really hurt Michigan as he has been actively recruiting for them. All the sudden, you bolt to another school?

Wow, just wow!

Well, it's just conjecture at this point, and not mine. But it does raise an interesting possibility. OU is much closer to home for the big Texan.

the michigan boards aren't worried at all about it right now. it's being discussed, but for the most part, it's being shot down pretty quickly. my impression is that this is a case of conjecture from message boards that's being misconstrued as legitimate interest from either OU, Mallett, or both.

It's too early to say the interest is true. But it's also too soon to say it's not. Whatever the case, it is an interesting possibility and it would break my poor little heart to see it happen. No fan base has been quicker to put down JC and hype up their own QB than the UM fans.

That is one huge $hit sandwich that I would love to sit back and watch the UM fan base eat.

trust me, scoop - a quick review of the michigan boards is all it takes to see their seething hatred of JC at ND. i would LOVE to see the meltdown if the speculation turned out to be true.

This is a huge whole to be filled for OU. Honestly, if I were a young QB right now, my attention would turn to Norman.

Another person to possibly look at is OL prospect Matt Romine. It has been said he is big into Oklahoma and Notre Dame. Would something like this discourage him from going to OU?

The only QB they've offered thus far is the Brantley kid from Florida, who verballed to the Horns.

Would Romine be discouraged because Bomar is no longer on the field or discouraged because of the consequences he faced off of them?

I'm never nervous about recruiting--I think it's 99% hype. Nobody knows how teenagers are going to mature. No particular recruit is a sure thing. Mallet's gonna do whatever he does. My interest in him begins at matriculation. He might go to OU and become the second coming of Jared Lorenzen....

I quit worrying about recruiting several years back, after the anonymous, unheralded Tom Brady kept the much-hyped, all-everything, schoolboy-legend Drew Henson on the bench.

Speaking of Michigan boards, have you checked out sackcarr.com? Pretty tepid, so far. But if Lloyd goes 7-5 again...

Well then, you could never be a Notre Dame fan. We've had to tie a few to the ledge this week to keep them from jumping off because we lost a guard. :)

Good points and thanks for the response. Tom Brady is a great example of why I don't follow in line with those who think Clausen is penciled in from day one. He's going to have to earn it.

I personally hate all this recruiting talk....its nice to know but I don't bet the farm on any of these 5-star guys or "experts" picks....I live by "let me tell you in 3 years" how good the kids will be. I stopped believing in the "experts" after "Two-Heisman" Powlus.

Remember, though, K Mac: That was Beano Cook that said that particular quote.

I'm sure Beano probably didn't count on Powlus running the option offense during his college years.

I don't think Mallett is going anywhere.

I know but isn't he called "The Pope of College Football", HAHA.....plus Powlus's career went down the tubes when he broke his collar bone, he was never the same after that. Thats what I was trying to say, there is a long way between senior year of highschool to the start of the next season...many things can happen.

Yeah, Beano has taken a lot of heat for that. To be honest, he was probably wrong anyhow... BUT, Powlus was never given a chance to shine. Such is life.

I think the bigger issue could be where Bomar gets his second chance at, and he will get a second chance from a major program. I don’t know what the details of any punishment is but wouldn’t he be able to play in the 2007 / 2008 season if he transferred now? That would really change the outlook of a team like Miami, Florida State, Texas or UCLA.

It is already August. He would probably have to enroll in January wherever he goes, I-A or I-AA.

Oklahoma, beware.
If Ryan Mallet takes a visit to OU, and then announces he's decommitting to reevaluate the situation, OU might be in trouble.

Beware the curse of Ryan Mallet

Will any NCAA penalties be given?

Will any NCAA penalties be given?

Would that not be something for the NCAA to come down on OU and not USC, with all the sh-- they have pulled in the last months. Would if they got tagged with No post season play. I wonder what's going through McCoy's head.

The difference is, Bush's came from an agent who could probably give two poops about USC. Bomar's came from an OU booster.

ron, you've made a fairly large error here. You actually think we've kept our sanity? Sanity? Mine's long gone, my friend.

No you're not joking.

If anyone is completely nuts around here, King Cabbage wins the Cuckoo's Nest award. That brother of his takes a silver medal.

People are concerned about recruiting because the ND depth is a giant turd sandwich. And after this season it gets even more shallow. Still, some folks are jumping the gun and panicking way too soon.

What's important is that ND has a coach who loves to recruit. Many coaches don't and would rather not be on the road. Weis and his staff are all recruiting honchos. Two springs, two cross country barnstorming tours by Weis. Expect it every year.

We might loathe recruiting as fans, but it sure as shit beats our coaching staff being on the back 9.

Who this not discourge you. I sure as heck wouldn't want to commit to a school without understanding the full effects the situation with Bomar has on the school. From what I'm hearing from some friends in OK, this thing is far from over. More info will be leaking out soon IMO.
