Will he live to 80?

This is by no means a poll of a threatening nature... it's just that his age does bring up the question and because of that makes for a good poll.

The guy does a lot of walking and he gets a little mental stimulation from his coaching job. But I think that if things get bad enough in South Bend for him, he might shed his last brain cells and lose control over his body.

With that in mind, Indiana's governor better be prepared for a Terry Schiavo pt II.. (that was in bad taste, admittedly)

For now, I go with option number 2.

I have always liked Joe Pa and certainly hope that he lives past 80. It was a shame when Bobby passed him, I guess it is easier to win with "paid" players.

ehhh...you realize that paterno is very nearly 80 already, don't you? his 80th birthday is Dec. 21. so basically, you're asking if we think paterno will die during the pending football season?

The doctor said he could coach for 10 more years, so I think he will be able to live until he is 80.

I've always liked him as well and I was thrilled that he beat Grandpa Bowden in the Orange Bowl, but his recent whining about ND's schedule in regards to playing a handful of Big Ten teams and ND's indepedent status and blah blah blah...

Well, it made him sound like a grumpy old man.

Personally, I think he is nothing more than a figurehead at this point. His assistants do a good job of running the team and recruiting. Bowden is much of the same.

I would regretfully have to agree although I believe Joe Pa is more hands on then Bowden at this stage.

For sure.

Watch Bowden during a Florida State game. He'll grab a headset after certain plays and chime/listen in. Never wears it all of the time. Puts it on when he wants to know what is going on.

He mostly stands there with his hat and trendy Nike glasses on just watching.

When the bomb goes off, it will be JoePa, Keith Richards, and some cockroaches standing in the aftermath unharmed.

JoePa has no love for ND. He has bashed the Irish and independence in recent years. He once said everybody should just tell ND they aren't going to play them. He complained about NBC as being our weekly recruiting tool, when the Big Televen has their own national contract. This was quoted in the press. He's a bitter ND hating old man. I hope he lives a long happy life as a human, but if he never wins another game, I'm OK with that.

The interesting thing is that nobody said 'no' out of common propriety; I posted this thread only after having read all the 'Charlie Weis is fat... go eat another big-mac' bullshit I read on the PSU boards on Rivals. So I doubt they would extend the same courtesy.

Actually I'm a damn side more concerned about CW's health than Joe PA's.

I'm concerned, too. He's got one of the most stressful jobs in the country and he hardly gets any sleep.

I just don't appreciate it when the fan-bases of other teams point it out for the wrong reasons.

His weight and medical history would be a concern if he was a librarian.

Rockne, Leahy, Parshegian, and Holtz all had good health upon becoming head coach at ND. Rockne had plebitis and was hospitialized. Leahy asked for a leave of absence for health reasons. Parshegian was told to retire for medical reasons. Holtz was exhausted.

Leahy used to sleep in his office. In Rockne and Leahy's day coaches didn't just explain a technique they lined up against the players and showed them how it was done - live without pads.

There jokes may be mean spirited but it's naive to think it's not a concern.

Weis has the look of a man that eats bacon like I eat M & M's.

He has gotten bigger since he was hired over a year ago. The recruiting road trip schedule he keeps can only mean he is eating out at places that only God knows where. I can't even fathom what kind of sleep he gets during the week.

Charlie Weis fat jokes on a Penn State board. You just have to love relevance.

Does anyone have any idea how much he weighs? All I know is that when he had the gastric bypass surgery he weighed 300 pounds.

The situation is even more frightening after Randy Walker's death.

Yea, Randy Walker certainly made me think of Charlie. That would be brutal for our program. God forbid.

More like recent WEEKS. He just said some of that not too long ago.
