Keep in Mind...
I don't know about "rock bottom." Here's who they have offered and lost out on thus far. These are verbals, by the way. No one has signed anything to our knowledge:
OG Tray Allen 6-4/305/5.3 Grand Prairie, TX Texas
ATH John Chiles 6-1/195/4.4 Mansfield, TX Texas
DE Sidell Corley 6-4/250/4.8 Mobile (AL) Florida
ILB Chris Galippo 6-3/235/4.6 Anaheim, CA Southern Cal
CB Marcus Gilchrist 5-11/175/4.45 High Point , NC Clemson
RB Kelvin Grady 5-10 156 East Grand Rapids, MI Michigan
DT Andre Jones 6-4/305/5.66 El Paso, TX Texas
DE D'Angelo McCray 6-5/265/4.64 Jacksonville, FL Florida
OT Josh Oglesby 6-7/315/- Milwaukee, WI Wisconsin
DE Michael Reardon 6-6/245/4.7 Villa Park (CA) Orange Luthern USC
RB Brandon Saine 6-0/200/4.4 Piqua, OH Ohio State
OT Trinton Sturdivant 6-6/285/5.1 Wadesboro, NC Georgia
WR Nick Sukay 6-3/200/4.5 Greensburg (PA) Central Catholic Penn State
RB Marc Tyler 6-0/215/4.5 Westlake Village, CA USC
3 of those guys, plus Wilson are O linemen. That was the most impressive haul of last year's class and if they take 4-5 O linemen they will be quality players. Miller is going to visit for the UCLA game. That could swing ND into the lead. There is Nwankwo, Romine, Ziemba, Matt Summers Gavin...all coming into the mix.
I look at that list and see four names who weren't offensive linemen I'm really disappointed that they could not get:
Chris Galippo
Marcus Gilchrist
Andre Jones
Marc Tyler
Many of the big targets are still on the board. They have not made official visits yet. ND still has not played a down in 2006 yet. They look sharp with Hughes, Benn, Little, Romine, Nwankwo, Blackwell, Tez Wilson, Dailey, Michael Williams, Mark Barnes, Gary Gray and others.
It isn't even August yet and one year ago in August ND raked in some pretty good ballplayers:
Bartley Webb
Demetrius Jones
Raeshon McNeil
Keep in mind that on this date in 2005, ND had 9 verbals. They have 8 right now.
It's all good.
