Who is Notre Dame's biggest Rival?

Notre Dame has a unique schedule year in and year out with many rivals on it. Among them: Michigan, USC, Purdue, Michigan State, Stanford , and Navy. And a few others that appear lest often on the schedule: Boston College, Penn State, Washington, etc. Who do you think is Notre Dame's biggest rival, and who is your personal least favorite?

You are right on.

Some think our biggest rival is Michigan...but let's face it...we simply don't have as deep or consistent a history with them as we do with USC.

I just finished writing this reply to a similar thread on II. And I feel very strongly about this.

"Although, USC is our arch rival, I don't feel the same hatred for them that I do Michigan. I have been to countless ND/USC gams and the feeling is very cordial and respectful. I don't feel that way when I'm watching or attending an ND/Mich game.

Put it this way, I dislike USC during the season and hate them the weekend we play them.

I hate Michigan before, during, and after the season. I hate them in the morning, afternoon, and evening. We could go 11-1 this season and win the natinal championship but the season would still disappointment me if we lost to Michigan."

Hate is strong word...but not nearly strong enough to describe what I feel about Michigan!!!!

Michigan is close but because of their rivalry with Ohio St. it kind of overshadows ours with them.

Being from the West Coast, there ain't no doubt about who it is, & always will be. We haven't nearly been screwed out of as many games at Michigan as we have at SC by home town officiating. Most of you aren't old enough to remember the really bad games.

In my opinion it's only USC. The other teams are just an annoyance.

But that said, I think I might actually hate Ohio $tate more than USC. There's a chance that O$U is even more corrupt.

For me the most hated would have to be Michigan, the 0-38 loss in '03 still stings.

But I would still say USC is the biggest rival.

I will have to go with Michigan. The game is always at the start of the season and usually means somebody is taking a hit in the polls right out the gate. I still have a game day shirt from a few years back. Says "As Good As It Gets" and has the two teams helmets on it.

USC is a big game but I do not find myself cheering against their others sports team the way I can't stand any team wearing Maze and Blue.

My least fave would be B.C. just cant stand a program whose greatest accomplishments are Upsets and not titles.

I'm not so sure about the Michigan/OSU thing. Living in Columbus now, I know OSU fans hate Michigan with a passion. But Michigan doesn't have the same hate for OSU. It isn't that Michigan doesn't hate OSU, its just not as a big a deal to them. I think they "hate" ND more. It is a more bitter rival than OSU. The thing is that ND games don't cost Michigan anything in terms of conference standings, were as with the Irish, it can often be "the" big game of the year, depending on how things go.

In my day (Holtz), USC sucked. Michigan was always the big rivalry game. FSU/Miami was the team that you hated. Stanford/BC was the team that made you sick.

And now..., pretty much the same.
