Driving in to work today like I do every morning I tune into 123 on my Sirius Sat. radio. Farrell was the guest on Rivals Radio and he fielded recruiting questions. The first question was from a guy in NY calling about ND's chances with the following:

Wilson - was a ND lock but took a trip out to SC and fell in love. Coin toss.
Austin - longshot, likes glitz and glamour and Miami or SC seem to fit him the best.
Donald - close to a lock to Tennessee.
Hughes - academic issues will likely prevent this guy from ND.
Benn - As close to a lock to ND as you can possibly get.

He also said the reason Hughes will not go ND is becuase everybody is now looking at ND and we will be filled by the time he gets his academics in order.

BTW Sirius Sat. radio is awesome, even if you don't like howard, to be able to listen to college sports talk for an hour(my commute) each morning is fantastic.

Just thought I'd pass along.

I've tried to ignore the gaining momentum about SC for Wilson, but I think we've lost him. That's an absolute same because Petey has fed him a load of bullshit, but I digress. I think he's going to select USC on August 1st and his girlfriend did a good job of tipping us off.

Hopefully Charlie is working the phone with him and can reel him back in.

SC has some All Americans on their line this year that will be NFL bound come spring.

You'd better believe that scumbag is going to do all he can to secure some O linemen.

It would be a shame to lose James Wilson to USC. It isn't sounding very good right now.

If we lose Wilson, I will not lose sleep. I think the o-line is something we'll never have to worry about under Weis. There will be someone just as big, just as talented come along this year, or next, or the following not to mention last years class of O-linemen was top notch. I want the speed on defense so Minter can go back to the 3-4 like he wants too. I want Tez real bad, by far no. 1 on my wishlist. And it's pretty obvious we need some hogs on the d-line if for nothing else depth. But we don't need ausin. In a 3-4, we just need d-lineman to take up double teams so our lb's can run free and make plays.

They are only going to take one guard. Perhaps that could be Emeka Nwankwo, though I like him as a DT prospect too. And Nuss could be a guard as well. So could Romine.

Tackle is the key there on the O Line. They need to take three of them.

James Wilson will be the one OG that ND will bring in.

Is it possible Farrell's just trying to stir up some drama with this whole Wilson thing? After all, it was just a week ago that he wrote that Wilson was ours in his blog and I'm pretty sure that Wilson's trip to USC was at least a week or two before that would have been written.

I wouldn't blame the young man for goin' to PoodleU cause his dad is out there. In LA, prob a big-time thing to say my son is a staring guard at SC. I think he'd be one of the best ever at Du Lac.

I am most mad about Austin. Even thou I know he wasn't going to come to ND, it still sucks not getting him. Who else can we get at DT now?

If we land Blackwell and another 3-star/4-star type, I wouldn't be too disappointed. It wouldn't be the homerun Weis was looking for (i.e. Austin, barksdale, etc...), but it would be a start.

Hey you never know about 17-8 year olds, charlie might be able to sell austin on the glitz and glamour of the golden dome or the shine from candles at the grotto or the beautiful stained glass windows at the bascilica or the smell of green from all the cash at the bookstore on home saturday's.. :) In all seriousness don't worry about austin, let's get blackwell in here and some three star guy and be happy with that. Let's get Tez and with Neal in the fold, wade from last year we'll be fine. We'll have descent numbers on the o-line maybe CW will convert some of them to DT.

I like our chances with Ben Martin as well. Our DE's should be very, very good. We need bodies at DT, and I hear Trattou may bulk up, Mullen already has, and we can get Will Blackwell as well.

If Hughes is possibly lost for academic reasons..........who would be the most likely candidate that ND would look towards? That seems to be a tough one to project.

Probably Armando Allen. But I think he's more of a speed running back.

I believe tht Derrell Hand is down to 283 lbs. He weighed 305 lbs coming in as a freshman.

Just wonderin'

Just wonderin'

but does anybody have a good idea how many d-linemen we have offers out to? From what I've read elsewhere, Blackman sounds like he could be a stud. Ben Martin is rated as a toss-up with Tressell U.

You guys worry too much...We will be fine on rb's, DT's, OG's, and any other alphabets...CW learned from his rookie mistakes and will rectify it all....let's get the season going!!!!

Right. At this point last year, we were scared to death about O-line recruiting and people were asking if there were enough offers out there to begin with. Fast forward a few months-and you have the best O-line class in the country, hands down.

I got rid of Sirius a few months ago so my memory is a little fuzzy, but if I'm not mistaken, it's on Sundays from 10 am til 1:00 p.m...going until NFL football. Hope that helps.

Sirius 123 is the best station to pick up nation wide college football news and views from 7am to 10am, they do a solid job. You will enjoy it.
