Irish get fresh foes in future openers

It would make sense for ND to someday think about playing IU in a future series........nice tune-up game and tons of alumni interest. The game played in '91 was quite the scene. Play a game at ND stadium and then a game at the newly completed Lucas Oil stadium in Indy.......hopefully someday.

Some intriguing games penciled in there...

Virginia in 2008...

Navy in Dublin, Ireland in 2012...

Oklahoma in 2013 and 2015...

Arizona State in 2013 and 2014...

Of course, college football scheduling can get crazy, so those games might not stay there. Something to look forward to, though...

Although these aren't the big high profile schools we are used to seeing ND play, it will be a good way to open the season as a tune-up for the rest of September and games againt Michigan/State and Purdue.

Why not try to go back and pick up a team like Northwestern again rather then going to these none BCS Conferences? Just a thought.

My guess would be exposer and scouting.

How about Irv Smith as an honorary coach for games against the Hoosiers...

Thats an interesting idea. I don't think Lucas Oil Stadium will hold as many as Notre Dame stadium does now. Would be a tough ticket to get.

Would be nice for out of state alumni too, I'm guessing. Easier to get to and more hotel accomadations. Only question is: would they want to travel to see ND pummel the hoosiers?

I would not expect to see IU or NW on the schedule except as a replacement for another Big 10 opponent. And even then I doubt IU or NW would be interested.

You need 6 wins to be bowl eligibile. Without an opening game win over Kansas last year, NW wouldn't have gone a bowl.

Think IU wants to substitute Central Michigan or Connecticut for a Weis led juggernaut? Unless they jump on the '07 schedule that's what they'll face.

Games in Indianapolis would not be a big draw. It may be better hotelwise but that's the only advantage. Travelwise it only helps people living south of Indianapolis shorting their drive by 3 hours. For those to the east or west it's a comparable drive. But what ND fan wants to drive 10 hours to go to Indianapolis when the next week they can go drive 10 hours and be on campus. It's the ND experience not just the game. For thosing flying it's easier to get flights to O'Hare than Indianapolis.

I thought I had seen ND vs. LSU at Shreveport as one of those "away/ neutral home games" for the 2009 season on the und website.
