We are slow, Longo must go?

Read it again.

(Remember I'm drunk). IDK who/what you're referring to. I'll post more about this when I'm sober, but considering the talent ND brings in, I'm personally disappointed in our team athleticism. We have a few studs (Daniels, Tuitt, Nix), but overall, starters, second stringers, special teams, we often look less athletic than teams that do not have the luxury of getting top notch recruits.

IMO.

DD looked quite athletic on that TD. Especially hand fighting and dominating and running away from a 'next level' corner.

You're still dumb sober.

FIFY!

But seriously, you still have nothing to say?

"You're dumb" kind of lost it's taste after the 3rd grade, lol.

This thread is stupid. The defensive players are not slow. The DB's and LB's have been taking horrible angles and overpursuing.

Outside of CB, they're slow and nonathletic.

And that's not good because we recruit very well.

You want somebody to say something? Fine. It was a ludicrous statement. Purdue took advantage of some mismatches with quick backs against big linebackers. I didn't notice the mismatches in the 2nd when Diaco adjusted by keeping smaller, quicker guys in the game. Your finger pointing at Luongo is really ignorant.

So Longo is killing it in your opinion? And we're noticeably more athletic than almost every team we face in your opinion?

Based on.......?

Well, YOU are my primary source, having announced that you were drunk before starting this baseless thread. But certainly, your obstinate clinging to your assertion that it is the conditioning that keeps a 260 lb lb from keeping up with a scatback seems to the confirm that either you are drunk or just a real dough-head. So I cut you some slack and blamed the alcohol.

FIFY. If I'm drunk, what are you? Lol.

We bring in too great of recruits to look that slow on defense. If you're happy with Longo's progress, you're probably also very satisfied with being an annual member of the Meineke Car Care Bowl too. I'm not, but that's me.

The coaching staff having a slow paced vanilla offense and the D searching for an identity and leadership is Longo's fault.

So it's OK to question the head coach and the coordinators, but questioning Longo is out of bounds?

Luongo has done a very good job, yes. Our players were strong late in the season last year. We have not been less athletic against our opponents save for Gardner last week and even that was not a case of being slower right across the board but failing to contain an athletic qb in the first half. This is all I am going to post in this thread. All you are doing now is putting words in people's mouths...go to bed already.

In my opinion, Russell, Tuitt and Grace look too bulky. We didn't see a lot of Grace last season, but he looks nothing like the "athletic" "sideline-to-sideline" player that was often described.

Tuitt and Russell just don't seem as quick as they were last season. I think Longo is quite a ways down the list of problems, but it is a bit worrying how SLOW we look on the back end on defense.

I'm not looking for our S&C coach to turn 4.7 guys into 4.3 guys. That's impossible. But football is not a straight-line speed game. We just look slow to the quarterback and to the edge on defense, which is a combination of many things (speed, angles, pursuit, recognition, et al). But it is quite clear to me that we don't look as athletic as I'd hoped on the back end of the defense.

So did Michigan. So, to the extent they could, did Temple. It'll happen all season.
Maybe it's a matter of personnel. I don't know. But our inside linebackers, in particular, are getting mismatched like crazy. And we miss Motta more than we knew we would. The whole center column of our defense is troubling.

Do you remember what it was like under Weis? The team looks like they are juiced compared to then. It is more of an X's and O's issue.

And this isn't even mentioning our safeties who simply do not make plays and are often behind in coverage.

When you have a great S/C coach, it shows on special teams as much as anywhere IMO, because EVERYONE plays special teams. Who is notorious for poor special teams (granted, it's often kicking/punting, but our coverage/returns are really, really bad too)? We are.

I don't disagree that our play calling and defensive calls have been head scratching, but Longo getting a pass is wrong, IMO. Our special teams have been a joke ever since he's been here. We never have athletes making plays on special teams, our defense has to be schematically perfect to play well, and our overall team athleticism is really poor for a team that sings top 10 classes.

Yes because I wanted to make aware that if we can call out the head coach, the S/C coach is definitely fair game as well.

Hmm, fair point.

I'd put more blame on the players. Most of the time they are late diagnosing a play and hence they are a step behind the opposing player making them appear to be slower.

We've got speed.

But against a few steps disadvantage, a 4.5 guy won't catch a 4.5 guy.
