As far as the Mike hart injury, I don't think it affected me either way. I remember that he was a threat that game and that he got injured, but was injury going to secure an ND win? Who knows. Was I doing cartwheels and hoping that someone would do a Nancy Kerrigan on his knee and a WWE pile driver to finish the job? Hell no. It happened, but I did not wish it upon him.
"If he plays, maybe we lose". Yeah, but if he plays, maybe we win too. I just don't want to win because of somebody's misfortune or painful injury. I want to win because we were the better team that day.
Injuries (except those resulting from cheap shots) are part of the game. ND was the better team that day. If you win because the other team's best player gets hurt, and he was hurt on a clean play, you're still the better team. The other team has worse luck, but that doesn't mean you won cause you were lucky.
And Jigga, that's fine, and I'd say the same thing. But I'd add that (though I don't go out of my way to root for it) if Tyler tore an ACL I wouldn't feel bad. Nor would any USC fan feel bad if Brady got hurt in the first game. It's tribalism. Like when the Cardinals fans tried (and failed) to restrain their glee when Derrek Lee got hurt. Well, when Pujols got hurt, Cub fans felt just as good, and only hoped he would be out for a long time - maybe that he was on steroids, too, and that that came out while he was on the DL. Being a good fan of a particular team isn't necessarily conducive to being a good fan of a particular sport.
