We wanted to go to the movies this past weekend and couldn't find one that interested us. Anyone else check out a movie recently? What did you see? Was it worth the price of admission?

I saw United 93...liked it thought it was well done and respectful. Very real life like, not for the kids though, someone behind me actually had a little boy with them I thought that was pretty strange.

Silent Hill was garbage..

I'm looking forward to The Da Vinci Code nothing else that is out or coming out excites me. Poseidon looks decent, liked the original when I was young......

Your not excited about the Superman movie, or X-men 3!?!?!?!?!!!!!!

I'm dying to see those. But then again, I grew up with comic books. It sucks that kids now a days have never read a comic book.

Has anyone seen MI3. I'm not big on Tom Cruise, and even less now that he has gone weird. So I refuse to watch any of his movies. I would watch MI3 only if I hear its really, really good, and only because MI was my absolute favorite non-cartoon TV show in the early 80s, along with Dukes of Hazzard and the Incredible Hulk.

Saw it Friday. Not bad. 1 HR and 38 Minutes, so I was happy. Flowed pretty well.

I read an article in the paper today that a recent screening of Da Vinci Code didn't get good reviews. Should be interesting.

I look forward to seeing Pirates of the Carribean II and the Vince Papale movie.

Jigga, if you are referring to the Cannes Film Festival screening of DVC, then you are correct. However, it should come with a disclaimer that they hate EVERYTHING that Hollywood puts out, esp. ones that are as hyped as DVC.

I'm hoping that the DVC is as good a thriller as the book. What I'm more interested in seeing and this is if it gets made is Dan Brown's other book, ANGELS & DEMONS, which IMHO is a BETTER BOOK than DVC and would make for a great movie, if done properly.

I feel your pain, oh illustrious webmaster. Last weekend the chiquita and i wanted to go to the movies, and since i couldn't convince her to go to the new lindsay lohan flick (which i'm sure sucks, but i wouldn't mind sitting through anyway, if you know what i mean), we had to settle for this English movie called Kinky Boots. It's a comedy kind of like the Full Monty. We liked it all right, but the plot involves British drag queens, so it's not for the faint of heart.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing Over the Hedge with my kids. And I think I want to see it more than them.

My Top Five for the Summer:

1. Miami Vice (Thank God Michael Mann is involved)
2. Pirates of the Carribean II (First one was cool)
3. The Break Up (Vince and Jenn's Mr and Mrs Smith)
4. Da Vinci Code (Haven't read the book yet. Saving myself time)
5. Goal (Jigga's lady played DI soccer...I WILL end up seeing this)

Reviews for Da Vinci have been decent locally. I've heard it described several times as "entertaining" which usually means fair to midland, good but not great. Guess we'll have to see.

The trailer for X-Men looks hotttt!!! I saw MI3, it was pretty good certainly entertaining, but I can't take Tom Cruise seriously anymore. anyone who eats their babies placenta is weird in my book....

Their really hasn't been any GREAT movies in awhile. Movies like Cinderella man Million Dollar Baby, and Crash were good but not great.. I think the last great movie I saw was Sunshine of the Spotless mind with Jim Carrey.

The days of Braveheart, and Gladiator are long gone.....

I HATED Crash. Did not like that movie at all. When it won Best Picture my jaw almost hit the floor. I actually watched it a second time, thinking maybe I missed something. Nope.

There hasn't been much that's come out to really make me excited. V for Vendetta was okay. I think the last movie I saw in the theater that I was really pumped up about was Cinderella Man. Since then, several letdowns.

V for Vendetta was ok. It wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be. It was more political than action. The last action scene was tight though. I saw The Inside Man. The movie was good, but the ending sucked. They spent too much time on the actual bank robbery and the movie was entirely too long. I will be going to see X-MenIII. Yes!!!!!!

Don't know what the name of it is (although, I think it is Cars), but I am looking forward to taking my son to see the Pixar/ Disney movie when it comes out. Every time they show the commercials, my son laughs hysterically.

Other than that, X Men looks good.

The only two recent films that made any impression on me were Clooney's Syriana and The Constant Gardener (Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz from the the John Le Carre novel). I thought the latter deserved Best Picture...

*Spoiler alert*

V for Vendetta was good and interesting up until the ending. The explosion was tight but they gave it away in the commercials for the movie. You basically see the ending in the commercial. I would've liked a few more explosions and a little more to the ending. Portman really impressed me with her acting skills in that movie.

Scorcese is working on a new flick sounds really good, unfortunately DiCrapeo will be in it....

Also another 911 movie is coming out in August I believe, with Nicolas Cage.....

MI:3 Shocked me. It was far better than the second and even the first. Tom Cruise annoyed me in the first 5 minutes of the film, but once the action starts you hope the film will never end.

It's that good.

I find the commercialization of 9/11 rather disturbing. I saw all I needed to see that day on TV and in the documentary about it (the one that was directed by the two French men and aired on the one year anniversary). Being that my cousin is a firefighter in NYC, it was on more of a personal level for me.

I guess people have mourned long enough and are starting to cash in.

I saw that doc, it really moved me. What are the odds that they'd catch the first plane as it headed into the WTC? Now that you mention it, I might watch it again sometime tonight, someone at mom's work was selling copies and I got one.

I have watched it every year on 9/11 since it aired in 2002. Once a year.

Those guys were filming a doc about a rookie fireman. Who would have ever guessed they'd get all of that footage.

When those firemen are in the lobby, ready to head upstairs, and you could HEAR the jumpers landing on the roof above them....chilling. And when the chief says to the "probie" GET YOUR GEAR AND LET'S GO....what could that kid have been thinking at the time?

I remember watching that the night it aired....I was in grad school. When it was over, I walked over to the fire house in town and thanked all of the guys there for all that they do. It really shook me up.

if you're ever going to see a 911 movie united 93 is the one to go with. Its not hollywoodized(did i just make a word up) their was no major actors in it, and Paul Greengrass is an amazing director. I knew this film would be tasteful and moving because I've seen some of his prior work most recently his last docudrama Bloody Sunday which was also phenomenal. The guy just has a knack for depicting major historical events and making you feel like your actually there. One of the most moving films I've ever seen, glad I saw it, but I won't watch it again.

The 911 movie coming out in August with Spielberg directing and Cage as the main actor, I could care less about. That film is out to make big bucks, hence the big names involved.

For a brief couple-sentence rant, here, I am about to get really pissed at these idiots who want to boycott Da Vinci Code and are calling for disclaimers and what-not. When did movies become reality? Seriously. When the book first came out (Which I still haven't read) I thought this might be a guy throwing a real theory out there. Then, I figured out it was just a fiction story, so I was like what the hell??? Big deal!!! It is a story!!!!! This reminds me of the Harry Potter crap. Movies are not real, and if you think they are, you probably need to be taken out back and shot, because you have officially become useless to society.

While we are talking 9/11 movies, what about Farenheit 9/11? There is a winner and pure fact! Another example, however, of how movies are fiction, even when they are under the guise of documentary or fact. Having worked at Lions Gate, I get to claim that I was a piece of the puzzle responsible for distributing that piece of art.

Anyway, Go Irish! I can't wait for X-Men, Miami Vice, or Happy Feet!

I went to see MI3 a week ago and it was decent-good. Im not much a Tom Cruise fan when it comes to his personal life, but then again I dont read celeb mags So I couldnt care what he does in his personal life. All I want in a movie is to be entertained and he is skilled at acting.

Long gone??? Are you guys serious? Have you heard of a movie called Troy or one called Kingdom of Heaven, maybe Cinderella Man, if you like Batman the new one was the best Batman movie ever made. Gladiator actually isnt that old of a movie. Its funny people say they dont make movies like they used to. In a way it is true, but in other ways its just the same as it always has been. Movies or just as good or better than they used to be.

I don't think you can even put movies like Troy and Kingdom of Heaven in the same sentence as Braveheart and Gladiator. Troy was ok, i never saw Kingdom of Heaven, the reviews for both weren't very good. Alexander with Colin farrell was an absolute joke of a movie.

Cinderrella man was good but not great IMO..I can't stand the leading actress in that movie(her name eludes me right now) Russell Crowe is a helluva an actor though.

To me Gladiator and Braveheart, Forest Gump, Titantic(when I first saw it, makes me sick now) were all EPIC movies. Their hasn't been any EPIC movies in quite some time..

Kingdom of Heaven was good, but not great. Orlando Bloom in that role was miscast, but it was a solid flick overall. Compared to Braveheart or Gladiator, really you can't.

But to say there hasn't been an epic in some time, I think you overlooked three small films. They had something to do with Hobbits, Wizards and Ring was somewhere around there too I think.

I am a huge fan of movies and have seen some great films so far this year.

To name a few: Thank You For Smoking, Brick, Hard Candy, V for Vendetta, United 93, Inside Man, The Three Burials of Melquiedes Estrada, and Slither.

Some of them were not highly rated, some were, but I enjoyed each of them.

I don't know about teh days of Braveheart being long gone.

I would certainly place Lord of the Rings above Braveheart any day.

And American Pie was good too.

The Da Vinci Code wasn't too bad. I was afraid after reading the book that the movie would let me down (Like all the Tom Clancy Movies). But this one didn't drift to far from the book. The ending was different and few other things were changed to speed it up. But, all in all it was a good way to beat the Arizona heat.

Some upcoming flicks that look good are Xmen-3 and the Adam Sandler flick Click looks like it could be a good laugh.

The 9-11 movie with Cage I thought was an Oliver Stone picture...which had me scared because he likes to add his own twists to history.

He's a filmmaker, not an historian. I've seen what happens when one of those helms a movie - it was called Gods and Generals, and it was abysmal.
