Does anyone know if Stanton, the QB from last year is still there? Because if so I think this could be the the toughest game of the year. Sad thing is if MSU hadn't gone conservative offensively in the second half we easy could have lost that game by 30. If we win I hope we show more class then Sparty did last year.

I think TO...in Dallas...on the star. But it may not end up that well (T.O. now plays for Dallas) for MSU this year. It should be one hick of a game.

That's one way to look at it. Another way is that ND played like garbage on both sides of the ball, and that both sides woke up at the same time, and that when they did, MSU curled up and died. They missed losing that game by about a foot (on the safety).

The first 2+ quarters of that game were an aberration. ND will rout MSU.

Don't get me started on that. That forward progress call was terrible and I hate that call in general. When a QB gets sacked, he doesn't generally get forward progress. I think if you are behind the line of scrimmage, you should be down where you're tackled.

First thing that comes to my mind is how that first td by msu should never have counted. He DROPPED the ball!!!

I agree. That call was terrible. The worst part of it is that it allowed a team that hadn't earned an escape to escape. Everyone watching knew, once they survived the Irish onslaught in regulation, that they'd steal it in OT. It was just a lousy moment. I was angrier about it when it happened than I was about the Leinert play a few weeks later (though that was more surreal). Still, the team's two most inspiring performances last season were its losses. Their charging back and just killing MSU in a hurry was the first time I really thought they were an elite offense.

All I can think of is the fact that Charlie knows what they did last year with the flag planting and I KNOW that he will not allow that team to disgrace him two times in a row. Charlie's Army will take care of that on the field next year and I guarantee that these boys will not be smiling after what the Irish do to them.

I hope they stay healthy in the games before this one.

They'd better take care of business against Michigan at home.

Yeah yeah yeah, maison. And The Irish own the skunkbears. The sun rises. Blah blah blah.

I like what Lou said. Next year, the only flag MSU will be planting will be white for surrender. We've won the last couple in East Lansing. This one will be no different.

What comes to mind? Even Vvoyd Carr can beat MSU.

Sparty owns the Irish.

MB, you'll be editing that quote to the PAST TENSE, come 9/24/06 and going forward. The POUND OF FLESH tour will commence on 9/23/06 and then again on 11/25/06.

And I'm not changing my second quote until Lou can give me a good one AFTER we send Sparty back to the Peloponesian peninsula.

I think we should bury them...

That being said, I was surprised that no one seems to remember they did it to us, for doing it to them...

"“I guess nobody knew that they did it to us last year,” Stanton said. “Nobody made as big of a deal out of it, I think, just because we’re Michigan State and they’re Notre Dame and nobody’s supposed to do that to Touchdown Jesus and the Golden Dome and stuff like that."

Stanton's claims have been refuted, if I am not mistaken. No pictures of an ND flag planting exist and no other witnesses have supported his take on it. And isn't their field artificial?

He hopes no one takes offense to it?? I think it offended more than a couple of people. That little planting from last year will be chiseled into the minds of each and every player the week of Michigan State. Charlie will not let them forget that. Charlie WILL bring the NASTY to East Lansing.

And there is turf at East Lansing and has been for quite a while now. No way we bury an ND flag into their field. To me, the flag planting is just as bad as BAAAAston Caaalege coming to ND and trashing the lockers and $hitting on our floors.

Do we take offense? HELL YES.

Their field is artificial...ick (I can't stand artificial fields)

I have heard mixed reports. However, it seems clear that a couple of players for some reason felt they had been wronged.

Doesn't change my opinion. The best statement would be to bury them by 40 points.

They play Idaho, (no seriously) E. Mich, at home then go to Pitt, while we play GT, PSU, and Mich. What a joke. Obviously 3 physical games for us, while they will be fresh, confident, and have inflated statistics. Hopefully Wanny can soften them up a little bit with his "physical" coaching style. But both teams will be unbeaten. We gotta stay healthy in those first 3 games.

I'll be impressed if the Irish make it through 4 consecutive Big Ten opponents without a stumble.

I know the "Charlie changes everything" sentiment is strong, but consider this: only once in the past 10 seasons have the Irish gone unbeaten vs the Big Ten.

To wit:
1996--lost to OSU
1997--lost to UM, MSU, and Purdue
1998--lost to MSU
1999--lost to UM, MSU, and Purdue
2000--lost to MSU
2001--lost to MSU
2002-- beat UM, MSU, and Purdue
2003--lost to UM, MSU, and Purdue
2004--Lost to Purdue
2005--Lost to MSU and OSU

Most of those years, ND played UM, MSU, and Purdue, but some years (96, 00, and 01), only two Big Ten opponents were scheduled.

I'm not saying the Irish can't sweep the Big Ten this Year, but don't underestimate how difficult it will be.

i agree it will be tough, i agee those teams are good, but come on, you also have to know, that we are more talented, and better coached than all three of those schools. As to MSfU, I think we will be a little worn, but dont under estimate the importance of playing tougher competiton early as to wind down with softer competiton i.e MSU. They will ot have seen an ND type team in Idaho, or E. Mich. so I am under the thinking that the only burying that takes place that afternoon, will be our 2nd teamers still putting points on the board as we lay the wood to sparty's 1st teamers

That catches one year of the Holtz era at the beginning, and one year of the Weis era at the end. The bulk of it was Davie and Willingham. 'Nuff said. Beating three Big Ten teams and losing to none is not nearly as hard as those two made it look.

ND was more talented and better coached than MSU last year, didn't stop them from losing.

And I don't exactly agree with you. The Irish are more talented than Michigan and Penn State on offense only. You really think the Irish have more talent than those teams on defense? I seriously doubt it.

ND is not more talented than Michigan, and is arguably not more talented than MSU. They will be in a year or two, but for now, they're not. That's not to say ND isn't as good as Michigan - they're much better than they are. But that's based on a few players and a coach, and not on a well-rounded, deep, talented team.
