NDBCSChamps said:Does anyone know if Stanton, the QB from last year is still there? Because if so I think this could be the the toughest game of the year. Sad thing is if MSU hadn't gone conservative offensively in the second half we easy could have lost that game by 30. If we win I hope we show more class then Sparty did last year.
Fitzgerald said:That's one way to look at it. Another way is that ND played like garbage on both sides of the ball, and that both sides woke up at the same time, and that when they did, MSU curled up and died. They missed losing that game by about a foot (on the safety).
The first 2+ quarters of that game were an aberration. ND will rout MSU.
maison bleu said:What comes to mind? Even Vvoyd Carr can beat MSU.
Sparty owns the Irish.

scooper said:And isn't their field artificial?
LOVEMYIRISH said:I think we should bury them...
That being said, I was surprised that no one seems to remember they did it to us, for doing it to them...
"“I guess nobody knew that they did it to us last year,” Stanton said. “Nobody made as big of a deal out of it, I think, just because we’re Michigan State and they’re Notre Dame and nobody’s supposed to do that to Touchdown Jesus and the Golden Dome and stuff like that."

scooper said:Stanton's claims have been refuted, if I am not mistaken. No pictures of an ND flag planting exist and no other witnesses have supported his take on it. And isn't their field artificial?
LOVEMYIRISH said:Their field is artificial...ick (I can't stand artificial fields)
I have heard mixed reports. However, it seems clear that a couple of players for some reason felt they had been wronged.
Doesn't change my opinion. The best statement would be to bury them by 40 points.
irishnd31 said:He hopes no one takes offense to it?? I think it offended more than a couple of people. That little planting from last year will be chiseled into the minds of each and every player the week of Michigan State. Charlie will not let them forget that. Charlie WILL bring the NASTY to East Lansing.
And there is turf at East Lansing and has been for quite a while now. No way we bury an ND flag into their field. To me, the flag planting is just as bad as BAAAAston Caaalege coming to ND and trashing the lockers and $hitting on our floors.
Do we take offense? HELL YES.
mirertobrooks said:But both teams will be unbeaten. We gotta stay healthy in those first 3 games.
maison bleu said:I'll be impressed if the Irish make it through 4 consecutive Big Ten opponents without a stumble.
I know the "Charlie changes everything" sentiment is strong, but consider this: only once in the past 10 seasons have the Irish gone unbeaten vs the Big Ten.
To wit:
1996--lost to OSU
1997--lost to UM, MSU, and Purdue
1998--lost to MSU
1999--lost to UM, MSU, and Purdue
2000--lost to MSU
2001--lost to MSU
2002-- beat UM, MSU, and Purdue
2003--lost to UM, MSU, and Purdue
2004--Lost to Purdue
2005--Lost to MSU and OSU
Most of those years, ND played UM, MSU, and Purdue, but some years (96, 00, and 01), only two Big Ten opponents were scheduled.
I'm not saying the Irish can't sweep the Big Ten this Year, but don't underestimate how difficult it will be.
nayers said:we are more talented, and better coached than all three of those schools.
nayers said:i agree it will be tough, i agee those teams are good, but come on, you also have to know, that we are more talented, and better coached than all three of those schools. As to MSfU, I think we will be a little worn, but dont under estimate the importance of playing tougher competiton early as to wind down with softer competiton i.e MSU. They will ot have seen an ND type team in Idaho, or E. Mich. so I am under the thinking that the only burying that takes place that afternoon, will be our 2nd teamers still putting points on the board as we lay the wood to sparty's 1st teamers
