LOS ANGELES -- It looks like USC will have tailback Chauncey Washington in the backfield next season.

Washington, academically ineligible the past two seasons, has surpassed the 3.0 grade point average he needed to be on the field in 2006, according to a report in Monday's Los Angeles Daily News. The newspaper reported that Washington received no lower than an A-minus on any of his finals.

"My GPA is going to be like a 3.8," Washington said in the Daily News. "I'm so excited. I did pretty well in the classroom."

Washington's eligibility was a key for the Trojans, who will be without Reggie Bush and LenDale White, who both went to the NFL early. Hershel Dennis had season-ending knee surgery and Desmond Reed has been slow to recover from knee surgery of his own.

USC has several freshman tailbacks as well, but will count on Washington, who has just 19 career carries. He didn't practice last season or during spring practice because of his academic difficulties.

Magically became a 3.8 student, eh? Any guesses what supplemented Ballroom Dancing on this kid's schedule? I'm SO GLAD we are not USC.
