From Ryan O'Leary at BGI:

“Nothing has ever been given to me,” Jones said. “I’ve been used to grinding, having to go out and get stuff…Ain’t nothing out there given. But anything I’ve got something to do with, it’s going to have to be taken.”

And this one speaks volumes.

“Hell yeah,” he said when asked if he’s eager to learn from Quinn. “I get the chance to come in and back up the guy who’s going to win the Heisman and be the No. 1 (NFL) draft pick.”

The kid lives in the Englewood section of Chicago's South Side, a very rough neighborhood that has been in the local news lately because of various acts of gang violence and some tragic innocent bystander shootings that have resulted in the deaths of young children.

You think he's afraid of a little QB competition? Get real.

No word from Zach Frazer on any of the Trinity sites. I'm curious to see what sound bytes he's giving in regards to all of this.

You know... it may not be quarterback, but D will get on the field at Notre Dame. I can NOT wait until he is in uniform! Gotta stick with my Chicago family!

In all honesty I hope that he plays QB at ND and starts at some point in his career...this kid has talent, heart and desire.

This site may as well be the HQ of the kid's fan club. I'm rooting hard for him. I really like his attitude and what he can physically bring to the game.

That said, I don't like reporters from the ND sites seeking out reaction from the 06 QB's. Just like I didn't like them looking for their reaction over the Mustain rumors last year. They know there's competition at ND. They are all willing to face it. But why stir things up publically?

agreed. what they should be focusing on is the talent level that will exist at QB by this time next year. there's so much talent there that it really doesn't matter who wins the starting job when quinn vacates the job. anybody that is able to win the starting job against the competition in that talent pool will most definitely deserve it, whether its sharpley, frazer, jones or clausen.

News is one thing. This is trying to stir something else up.

Exactly. Regular news doesn't sell subscriptions. Controversial news does.

When it comes to regular news, I agree. But recruiting subscription sites get plenty of business with recruiting news. I doubt anybody signs up just to hear what DD has to say about Clausen. More likely, someone will sign up to see who the next recruit will be.

The business is bigger than I thought.

I've done some homework on this stuff lately. You'd be surprised at how many subscribers they have, who pays what and the amount of money they rake in. They're not Rockafellers or anything, but this is a growing enterprise.

As far as Jones goes, people are talking because Clausen chose ND. Had he chosen USC, it would have been "Palmer-Leinart-Clausen" crap. Not only is it Notre Dame, but these guys could be replacing what could potentially be the Heisman winner and first QB drafted next year.

Buzz worthy news.

You will be hard pressed to find anyone on this team in the next few years that will outwork Demetrius Jones. Unmatched work ethic as far as I'm concerned. And I know enough people locally in the know who tell me as much.

But I'll bet Zach Frazer is going to bust his ass too.

Great stuff coming in the future.

Yeah, much of that has been my answer to fans of other schools who predict Clausen to bust. So what if he does? I say. (though I don't think he will) We've brought in three four star guys the last two years, and will undoubtedly get a talent next year. Someone will pan out.

I also think that Clausen's own work ethic isn't very appreciated. The guy has put on like 20 pounds of pure muscle in the past few months. Not to mention he has been training practically 24/7/365 his whole life.

I don't know who will take Quinn's place after he is gone but Clausen better be ready. Competition is going to make all the Qb's better in 2007!

I think it's kind of weird how we already have our favorite QB to take over in 2007.

...admittedly, I'm in the Clausen camp.

In all honesty, I think we are really discounting Sharpley. Three years under Charlie, a cannon arm, and two years of eligibility. Sharpley was as highly acclaimed as Jones & Frazer, so I think the job is his simply by experience & talent. I honestly the QB fight is going to come Sharpley's senior year or the year after.

wait, am I missing somthing? I thought Sharpley's only been w/ the program a year? And therefore it'll only have been 2 years under Charlie when the job opens up, with 3 left of eligibility since he never saw the field this past year?

While I do agree everyone is underestimating Sharpley, I think he does have a couple things working against him. (1)He's not Weis' player. While granted, neither is Quinn, I think there is an inherent desire in any coach to bring in a kid he recruited specifically for his system ASAP. (2)He's the shortest of the 4, and possibly will be the smallest as well if Jones and Clausen keep hitting the weights; if I remember right, I can swear I read an interview or something w/ Charlie and him talking about how he likes bigger QB's. and (3)I could be wrong, but from everything I've read about all 4 of them he seems the least talented (not that that's saying much b/c the other 3 are extremely gifted, but still...). He doesn't have the arm of Frazer I don't think, can't move like Jones, and well, if everything we're reading about Clausen's natural ability is true the kid is to the quarterback position what Christ is to Christianity, so I'm not gonna hold anyone else up to that standard.

Of course, I'm sure it'll all play out next spring after Brady moves on to the Lions or whoever has the first pick in the draft next year, and I'm sure it'll be a good competition, things certainly may look more than a little different then. We should (hopefully) see Sharpley on the field this year in mop-up work, so maybe it'll change my opinion of the kid once I actually see him throw a pass, but I think I will be at least a little surprised if Sharpley comes out on top. Not as much as most, but still a little.

If memory serves me, Sharpley wasn't a Top 10 QB out of the Class of 2005. Frazer and Jones both are. Clausen is actually supposed to be in the same class as Jones and Frazer, too. He was held back at least one year of school.

Best skilled: Clausen
Size, Frame: Frazer
Raw Talent: Jones
Experience: Sharpley

Too bad Weis can't just hybrid the four of them into one guy.

At any rate, there is a lot to be excited about and we're all jumping the gun. 3 of the 5 candidates to start in 2007 aren't even on campus yet and the 2006 spring just came to a completion (No one has mentioned Wolke yet).

It will sort itself out.

It is going to be a great battle to watch but there is just to much talent for someone to be just sitting around doing nothing.

I see it playing out that Clausen gets the start in 07' with Jones right on his heels and getting time in the slot as a WR and trick plays involving throws kind of like Randle-El for the Steelers in the NFL this year.

Unfortunately Frazer will be the odd man out and will transfer to a MAC or some lowly Pac 10 school.

Sharpley: 1) too small; 2) arm not strong enough; 3) not physically strong enough; 4) not too fast.

He's starting to sound like a young Joe Montana. Keep up with all the things this guy can't do and he could be a big surprize.

For some reason I miss calculated Sharpley's time at ND. Sharpley was the number 17 QB in his class according to Lemming, he is 6'2 (Tom Brady is only 2 inches taller), and his big talent coming in was that he had a cannon for an arm. The Boise's & Utah's of the world are getting it done with ten times less talent at QB, so I expect, from a coach's perspective, that Sharpley will be the incumbent and start the first few games of '07. No matter how talented Clausen is, he will not experience his first collegiate game in front of 80,000 under center. I hold DD in a lot of esteem and think that he may be the better passer between he and Frazer...I could definitely see him overtaking Sharpley.

I gotta admit, I am a big Clausen supporter and feel that he will take the healm after Brady leaves us, but I ABSOLUTELY LOVE DJ. Just to hear this kid's quotes puts a Huge smile on my face. He aint backing down for nothing or nobody. You want the spot....COME AND GET IT.

Yeah, but that's a big 2 inches. When you're talking QB's 6'2" to 6'4" really is the difference between being able to see over the lineman in a lot of situations. Not to mention these guys get listed bigger than they are when they're on the smaller side all the time...but then again Clausen's only listed at 6'3" I think, so who knows how that'll all factor in? Seems to be one area Frazer's really got the upper hand.

And Boise & Utah also never play Michigan, USC, Penn State, UCLA, and Georgia Tech all in the same season.

I don't buy that Jones is the better passer than Frazer, but I haven't seen enough of either to really say either way I guess. We shall see next spring.

If those inches bother you, you probably aren't too crazy about that Jimmy Clausen fellow, are you?

I've said all along that I though Jones would be the next star at ND. He is going to have to work his ass off to be QB now. Clausen is going to be tough to beat out. Hopefully they find a spot for him like Randle El as was stated earlier.

Don't count him out thought, he is a rough tough hard nosed kid that won't stop for anything. Wouldn't suprise me a bit if it were Clausen that has to transfer because Jones beats him out. Just something about the kid gets to me.

Wouldn't that be crazy!
