Anyone have update on the Blue and Gold game? Since it's not on the radio like i thought it would be, does anybody know if any other recruits have committed?

Blue won 10-7.

Travis Thomas was offensive MVP and Laws was D MVP. thomas had an 83 yd TD run and over 100 yards. I believe Samardjiza had the Blue's TD. From the sounds of it, kicking was bad, only 1 FG made.

From the very choppy radio I could get, it sounded like Sharpley was the QB of the gold team almost the whole time, if not the whole time. I don't know if Aldridge ever got in. Sorry, that's all I got for now. Hopefully, some stats will be up soon.

I haven't heard of any other recruits.

I think Thomas is a little under rated and will probably get a good amount of carries this year.

Well, I just hope we put on a good show for the slew of recruits that were in. Hopefully we'll have one or two verbals by the end of the weekend.

Nothing really stood out other than Price booting the ball. Kicking struggled. the line played pretty solid with the exception of the right guard spot. Brady was a little off but backs picked up for the lack of a pass game. Defensive backs seemed to maintain pretty good coverage, but gave up a few steps on deeper routes. Vernaglia seemed to struggle, good positioning but poor tackling.

As for the recruits, I was able to see where this falls class was at but didn't see any of the prospects. I suppose I got my fill at the presser this morning with Jimmy and Mark

There were over 41,200 people there, new Blue and Gold Game record.

My notes:

Recruits: Went to Jimmy's presser. The place was mobbed. He remembered Frazer's name but not Jones'. Ouch.

Miles Stroter is huge. He and dad were talking to Chris Zorich on the sidelines at halftime. No way he plays DT. He's an O lineman all the way.

Marvin Austin was in last year's gold "shirt".

John Ryan and Robby Parris sat with Konrad Reuland. They seemed to be chatting away for most of the game.

Danny Wenger is a monster. Sam Young looks like a power forward. He's at least 6-7.

Arrelious Benn is much taller than I thought he was. Duval Kumara is a tall drink of water as well.

Clausen was in a cast, Ragone had on brace on his knee and another kid was on crutches.

Marc Tyler seemed to be the guy who was paying the most attention to the game.

The Game:

Quinn looked sharp, Sharpley was better than I expected.

Samardzija beat Lambert deep for a TD, Travis Thomas TD run was a nice break away.

Mitchell Thomas impressed me. He did get a roughing the kicker penalty, but I thought he played agressive.

John Carlson blasted Anthony Vernaglia on a block and put him into the middle of next week.

Jeff Samardzija....what an athlete.

Goia missed a field goal, Price didn't look too bad.

David Grimes...shifty little guy.

O line played ironmen for both teams. Well done.

Grimes has to be shifty or he'd get killed.

And besides Clausen not remembering Jones' name, those two should be a little fired up by this quote from ESPN.com:

"Weis had previously signed two other QBs from the Class of 2006 -- Zach Frazer of Pennsylvania and Demetrius Jones from Chicago -- but they were mostly insurance in case Clausen chose USC."

Clausen was in a cast? It didn't appear so in his press conference.

Yeah it was a black cast on his non-throwing hand. Said it was a metacarpal fracture. Damn those garages....

WTF does ESPN know about anything? Aren't they too busy with their Barry Bonds-Kobe Bryant-Red Sox-Yankees coverage?

Frazer and Jones insurance? Bite me Eastern Seaboard Programming Network. When's the next Barry Bonds Propaganda infomercial you lazy eye loving jerks.

I still can't get over the size of some of those kids. Stroter, Young, Wenger and Reuland were freakishly big kids. It was wild.

Yes, as it turns out, my son and I were walking into the book store on Friday night at approx. 6:30pm. I saw Jimmy and Tyler standing there and I grabbed my son and approached him. Between him and his father they had about 3 bags full of ND souvies and Tyler had a pretty full bag himself (not implying anything there). I asked Jimmy if he wouldn't mind taking a picture with my son and I and he graciously said yes. As we were about to take the picture, Clausen said, "Well why don't we get Marc tyler in here." I was floored and Marc Tyler came into the picture with us as well as shaking hands with my 4 year old son. Great moment that I wanted to share with ya'll.

And a sign of humility on his part as well. Very "team" move to make on his part.

He was really working the sidelines with the other recruits Saturday. I think he exchanged cell phone numbers with just about everyone there.

My girlfriend said that Jimmy Clausen looks like a Joe Montana-Bart Simpson hybrid. And Marvin Austin looks like "The Predator."

Agreed scoop. Both boys were very polite and nice (even when I was fumbling to try and find my camera) and they were very nice to my son. A great experience.

I mean Jimmy wasn't just talking about the picture when he said let's get Marc Tyler in here. The much awaited Jimmy Clausen recruiting effort has begun.

I'm following ya scoop. By him pulling tyler in to the picture, it was like Jimmy saying, Come on bro, be a part of the ND experience. Join me Marc. Join me now!!

Sam Young and Dan Wenger were doing a great job of working the circuit as well. Major Wright (built like a linebacker) got introduced to everyone. They'll do well with Florida kids.

I was really impressed at how these guys were interacting with one another. Konrad Reuland sat in between John Ryan and Robby Parris for the entire day and the three of them never stopped chatting. The three Jersey boys (Kumara, Trattou and Ragone) hung out together as well, but they seemed to have good banter with Marvin Austin and Arrelious Benn.

Stroter, Hughes and Brent were all hanging out as well. Chris Zorich made sure to speak to each one of them as well.

For me, the best part of the day was seeing Clausen giving that cell number out to everyone. Demetrius Jones and James Aldridge were the ambassadors of the 2006 class. Jimmy Clausen will handle the 2007 duties.

The politics and networking of the recruits made the game a seondary event for me.

I was probably most impressed with Danny Wenger and Konrad Reuland. Physically, they are men.

Marvin Austin was in street clothes and I swore he had pads on.

Laws would be my pick for the player to step up big time in 06. From the sounds of Saturday's game, he may be on his way.

How did McKnight look, and did aldridge play?
Aldridge was suited up for the Gold side, but to the best of my knowledge did not play. Rhema looked good in his pass routes, but I don't think he was going 100% out there. Caught everything thrown his way.
