They had 2 good wins a Weak Boise State and TCU in the bowl game.

True. I actually somewhat root for MSU due to their playing style, so I am probably just being biased. I just remember being shocked at how many bad breaks they were getting last year. They probably had top-25 talent.

Two years ago, we saw what can happen when all goes wrong.

Last year, we saw what its like when everything goes our way.

This year, obviously a lot comes into play when thinking about the year. On defense, we lose Manti, Kap, and Motta. I think the secondary will improve and defensive line won't miss a beat. ILB will obviously be different from what we are used to. I think the OLB will be good. Overall, I don't expect much of a change on defense, maybe a little better depending on how people develop.

Offensively, as Lax pointed out a lot hinges on Golson. He progressed nicely last year to the point he was no longer limiting the offense. He showed a lot of promise IMO towards the end of the year. If he can be a baller this year and make plays, I think we are BCS bound. We lose the two OL Golic and Cave, so I think center will see a drop. Overall I think the line will be solid, not great but not bad. Losing Eifert hurts and we will be unproven at RB. I'm hoping TJ Jones, Daniels, and Brown can be go to options on offense.

Overall, I'm excited for this year and my expectations are through the roof. I don't see any team on the schedule that outdoes us talent-wise. This year will show us if there is still a lot more work to be done on rebuilding Notre Dame football and last year was a "fluke" or if we have arrived and are once again a dominant fixture in CFB.

With the talent we have, I'll say it... 12-0 please. I realize this is won't be easy, an undefeated season never is, but it is possible. We have to get past the idea that we don't deserve to be here, we are just as good as other big time programs. Lets raise our expectations for the program. We are that good once again

We will miss Cave but not Golic. If there was a leak on the o-line last year it was definitely Golic. We didn't lose anyone on offense that will be hard to replace besides Eifert.

Well he was good at calling things out but I don't know about his actual playing ability. When he got hurt in 2011, I didn't see much of a drop off when Golic came in.

I think Watt will be just as good at calling out protections if he is given that responsibility

I need to watch the Spring game first. I will be watching Everett Golson, Jarrett Grace, George Atkinson, Troy Niklas, Alex Welch, Mathias Farley, and Elijah Shumate the most. I think these players will determine how good this team will be this year. I know what I will get from everyone else.

The Spring game will decide whether I right off Koyack as a bust or not

Let's not get too carried away when we make our arguments. Braxton Cave is the 5th rated Center in this year's draft--- that's stud-level [Alabama's Jones is third, for instance]. And when Golic went over there two years ago, there was a noticeable drop-off, despite my admiration for Golic doing all he could.

Cave last season was hampered by irritating injuries almost all the time, but he still graded out well [in the seventy-percentages] and Kelly/Hiestand were pleased --- about equally with Watt. Cave might easily be missed.

NMart could step in as a healthier but less strong replacement; it will be tough for him to be an upgrade, though. I am hoping that his "natural meanstreak" manifests Jeff Faine-like as the season goes on. Then we will have something coming down the stretch.

The good thing about being a center is that you are not by yourself when you are blocking someone. There will be a guard there to help you, unless both inside gaps are blitzed. Unlike the tackle positions, where it's just you and the defender. No one is really there to help you.

I think Martin will do just fine and he will almost always have someone to help him

And I don't think the battle for the position is over yet.

Most that have seen say Hegarty is closing the gap quickly as he shakes the rust off and that Harell is learning fast. I have heard someone say that they cannot remember the last time we have had this quality three deep at center.
