#1/#1/#1 ND takes on #15/#19/#20 St. John's at 1. Game will be live broadcast on UND.com.

St. John's has one of best attackman in the country in Kieran McArdle who comes into the game averaging over 7 points per game leading the #4 offense in the country. To put his numbers in perspective, McArdle AVERAGES a better game than the best singular game any of our offensive players have produced this year.

Luckily, St. John's doesn't have a great defense so if we can win a bunch of faceoffs, possess the ball, and get consistent scoring we've got a good chance of winning. Personally, I'm leaning towards an upset win for St. John's on the order of 11-9, but we'll see what happens. Shooting accuracy will be key for ND... shoot well, and we can control the game. Give St. John's lots of possessions and they WILL score.

Last meeting between St. John's and ND was a 8-7 upset by the Red Storm in the Big east tournament. ND was #2 in the country for that game.

Not a good start to the game. St. John's getting all the breaks and 50/50 balls. Liam O'Connor looks like he blew out his knee on a faceoff and then we couldn't get the ball back after that. Really poor shooting accuracy. Lots of blown clears in the second quarter leading to back-to-back-to-back possessions for St. John's. Officiating is straight up terrible right now... missed a blatant trip on a fast break then made a horrible interference call that lead to a St. John's possession to end the half and a goal.

ND trails 6-4 at half.

Annnnnnnnnnnd ND comes out in the second half playing horrible. Will Corrigan straight up kills our offense. Bad D, bad at faceoffs, and ND trails 8-4. This game might be over soon.

Worst game I've seen ND play in probably 3 years. Gave up three transition goals on very slow breaks and it could've been more. Made an uncountable amount of really big mental errors at crucial moments. Blew 5 clears.... which is just insanely bad. Will Corrigan absolutely kills our first line of midfielders... can't dodge, can't shoot, and has a below average off hand. And our close defenders with the exception of Matt Miller frankly could not guard their man 1v1.

That was definitely a frustrating game to watch that is for sure. Nothing seemed to go right for them today. They really had some good looks and could not convert. The ground balls seemed to roll towards St. Johns every time. They lost O'Connor and couldn't get the faceoffs very well. They gave St. Johns a lot of good looks. It just wasn't meant to be today. This game really tempered my expectations for the Irish. They just didn't look very good. Hopefully O'Connor is okay and hopefully they regroup from here!

Does anyone know if there is any gametracker or anything with the Marquette game tomorrow?

Probably not. It's at a high school in Chicago. Will be interesting to see how ND comes out and plays this game... not a lot of breathing time between the St. John's game so hard to make a bunch of tactical/personnel changes. But some definitely need to be made... at the faceoff X due to Liam O'Connor's injury, but more importantly to the first midfield line. Will Corrigan's stat line for the year: 1 goal / 16 shots = .062% shooting percentage (only goal coming on man up); 4 assists to 8 turnovers. So you have a first line midfielder who hasn't scored an even strength goal all year and can't dodge... and most of his assists come on man up. Why is he even playing, much less starting on the 1st line? Because he is the coach's son? It's rendering our first line of midfielders quite ineffective and it could be fixed by substituting someone like Ryan Mix in as an offensive midfielder and letting him play crease attack or putting in Westy Hopkins maybe or really just anyone who can make a play.

Ryan Foley's isn't much better, but he can dodge and has a much better assist to turnover ratio (and without them coming on man up).

All things considered, rewatching the STJ game it's just shocking how many errors we made. Completely uncharacteristic of a Notre Dame team. On one hand, St. John's is the #8 team in the country per RPI (what is actually used for seeding) and #11 in the polls... and I called an 11-9 upset... but what's disappointing is the way we lost. 5 blown clears? Insane. And we lost just about every meaningful 50/50 GB and faceoff and missed a lot of easy looks.

ND still holds the #1 RPI by a pretty darn big margin, and dropped to #4/#5 in the polls. RPI becomes "official" in two weeks once all teams have played 10 games.

Well that sucks. I will agree with you with Corrigan. Seeing those stats is crazy. My boys say it all the time..."Get it away from Corrigan. He doesn't do anything with it." It's always a hard thing to do as far as balancing playing time with your own children at any level, let alone college.
I look for them to play focused, intense lacrosse tomorrow and bounce back nicely...That's why I was really hoping to be able to follow the game in any way, shape, or form.

It's true, he absolutely kills the offensive flow because he is no threat to beat his man or shoot for the outside and he often holds the ball too long while deciding where to go with it. I find it hard to believe that there isn't someone else who can step up.

Shocked when I saw the score of ND-SJ.

Why? I predicted 11-9 St. John's a couple posts up before the game. They have (arguably) the second best offense in the country and are #8 in the RPI. They also beat ND last year 8-7 with a worse team.

Gametracker not working but Marquette's twitter account is point.

ND up 8-1 at half despite getting dominated at the faceoff X. If there is one thing that will hurt this team moving forward, it's that Liam O'Connor was playing really well before he went down and was so good pushing transition for goals off of faceoffs. Scored 7 goals in a row to close out the half.

UPDATE: 11-2 now. Coaches apparently not tolerating bad play and making significant lineup changes with only 48 hours between games. John Scioscia, typically a man-up only player who had 2 career goals coming into the game, has 5 scores already in the 3rd quarter. Really wish I knew what midfield lines they are running.

17-5 final. John Scioscia's "debut" is a 6 goal, 1 assist performance. Tripled his career goal output in one game of action. Overall ND shot 44% on the day which is ridiculous (even for an accurate shooting team, which we are not). What is odd is that Conor Doyle is completely absent from the stat sheet despite starting the game... I hope he didn't get hurt.

Low points: Failed two clears, lost the ground ball battle, lost the faceoff battle handily, Will Corrigan's stat line = 0 goals/assist, 1 shot, 1 turnover.

Thanks for the update LAX. I was disappointed when Gametracker wouldn't load up. I anticipated a relaxed game and was curious to see the faceoff situation. Do you know anything about O'Connor?
Totally suprised to see Scioscia's numbers. Hopefully, like you said, some subtle changes were made and this is a turning point for their offensive performance.

Really big games this weekend...

Syracuse vs. Princeton is going to be fun to watch.

Virginia has a "must win" style game against UNC... if they lose to UNC and Duke I'm not even sure if winning the ACC tournament will get them in the field. They currently sit at a low RPI of 20 and the target this year for an at-large is probably ~#12-#13 at worst.

John Hopkins, similarly, has a game against Albany they can't afford to lose. If they lose, they're going to need to beat both Loyola and Maryland to even have prayer of making the tournament. If they win, they might sneak in because of their name with a win over either Loyola or Maryland. They currently sit at an RPI of #21.

Drexel vs. Penn State is a monumental game for each team in making a run at an at-large. The teams sit at #15/#16 in the current RPI and a win would go a long way towards guaranteeing them a spot.

ND still holds #1 RPI but playing bad Marquette (and bad-ish Providence is on tap) considerably hurt our SOS and Maryland is pretty close to us now.

Albany vs. Hopkins underway now on ESPNU. Huge matchup issues for Albany in this game.... really hope they can find some defense and pull off the W though.

Hahaha sorry... enjoy the game, I won't ruin the ending. One of the better lacrosse games I've watched all year.

Good game. Albany's goalie was just spot on....including the shot in the gonads....Watching him roll around like that was brutal..I hope my boys never become goalies! Hopkins is really in trouble now with their tough remaining games.
On a side note, My boy is having a lacrosse party tomorrow. We just lined our back yard for some LAX action and will be going to see the PSU/Drexel game. It should be a fun day.

Albany's goalie was ridiculous. He read every single shot by Hopkins well off the stick and made some truly fantastic saves. 21 saves! What's crazy is that Bassett played awesome for Hopkins in goal too and saved a number of "sure" goals. Just an all-around wacky game. Hopkins looks like they're in firm control on the EMO with very little time left thanks to yet another break from the officials... and then Albany goes coast to coast with a longstick for the game winner. Just a great game.

Hopkins likely needs to beat both Maryland and Loyola now to get in. Maybe if they just beat Maryland they would have a chance of squeaking in on name recognition at 7-5... but they're currently all the way down below 3-6 Villanova in the RPI and I don't see them climbing any higher than 16th without beating both the Greyhounds and Terps. Could be the first time in 40+ years that Hopkins misses the tournament.

Georgetown upsets St. John's 14-13 in OT. Scored with 10 seconds left to tie it and then won it in the extra frame. Horrible result with regards to ND (although we do control destiny for Big East championship now).

UVA's season circling the drain down 8-5 heading into the 4th against UNC. If they lose to UNC and Duke next week they likely won't make tournament.

Penn State pounded Drexel.

Princeton vs. Syracuse coming up on ESPNU... currently delayed by a meaningless softball game. **** softball.

Definitely a full day of LAX. PSU looked really good today. Their offense was very effective. They moved the ball well and were very patient. Drexel had a lot of unforced turnovers and really just couldn't get into any rhythm.
Good game with Syracuse and Princeton. I know it probably helps ND that Syracuse won but I just found myself rooting for Princeton. Oh well.
Hopefully ND plays well tomorrow. After watching the poor outing against St. Johns, and not being able to follow the Marquette game, my boys and I feel withdrawal and want to see a good victory.
Has anyone heard anything about O'Connor?

What's up guys? Haven't visited in a little while. Some odd happenings in the lacrosse world! Gtown dropping the redmen, didn't see that one happening. PSU drubbing Drexel is another surprise. Not the result, but the score. CAA is all over the place. Towson has come a long way, Hofstra on the way down it seems.

That Albany-Hop game was fun to watch last night. Great goalie play. I honestly can't remember a game with that many saves combined. Albany can look so reckless with the ball one possession and brilliant the next. The Thompsons feed the ball anywhere at any time. That defense of Albany is absolutely atrocious though! The two man game was killing them behind. Kills me that Hop will somehow find their way into the tourney though, they have had some questionable bids in the past.

I'm surprised that the Hoos have dropped 5 straight with all that talent. Things are definitely going to be wild this month. Enjoy guys!
