The networks may not have a USC Central, UM Central or OSU Central, but they do have their fan websites. Shouldn't you be spending your time there??????????????????????

Good point. I don't go on any other fan websites. I think we should welcome other fans and I do value some of their opinions and perspectives, but some fans are just jerks.

I wonder if this guy wrote an article about this past season's ND - Purdue clash? If so, what was his take on that game? My guess is that he took a pass on that one (no pun intended).

He missed that game. Unfortunately, it seems Purdue fans only remember the wins and forget (or overlook) the losses.

Fact of the matter is PU (not much else needs to be said with those initials) has so many in house problems right now, Notre Dame shouldn't even be muttered out of anyone's mouth outta West Lafayette.

My uncle is an alum there. Played on the 1967 Rose Bowl team. It is pretty bad. They returned most of their defense and were talking about a run at the Big Ten title. They won their last three games, but those were against Michigan State (the late season version), Illinois and Indiana. That's the on field stuff.

Off the field, in the locker room, it's crazy. Some new coaches have been hired recently, which should help. But things got out of hand fast once they started losing so badly. ND blowing them out set the wheels in motion. Everyone started pointing fingers after that.

They play Indiana State, Miami OH, Ball State and Minnesota at home before they come to South Bend. They should get a split of those four games AT LEAST, but should be able to win all four.

A Purdue team on a 7 game win streak comes to South Bend seeking redemption for last year's blowout? Makes a good story.

Update On Rhema Mc Knight

Update On Rhema Mc Knight

Can anyone provide an update on Rhema McKnight. How is his rehab going? Will he be ready for spring practice? Is he working with the training staff?
I have read the article by Tom Dienhart entitled, "Prepare to choke on sappy Quinn stories." The more I read it, the more irritated I get. Why? Because I think it represents irresponsible journalism. So, I feel compelled to reply. However, unlike the author, I want to check and be sure of my information before I submit a response. I hope other members of this thread are not offended if I integrate some of their succinct comments into my reply. This is especially true of QueenNY, who actually provided the format for my retort.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, including Mr. Dienhart. I don't deny his right to make arbitrary comments about a particular player [Brady Quinn] or the football team in general. What I do object to is his obvious lack of rearch and factual data to back up his points. Finally, I believe that if everyone remains silent; perhaps he will not realize that there are those who disagree with his opinion and are willing to present a clear, concise explination as to why.
Thanks for time and cooperation. Any suggestions or recommendations are also welcome. Contrary to Mr. Deinhart, I'm open to other opinions.

Word from BGI is that Weis is going to have a presser right before spring ball starts and will address all of this stuff (injuries, grades, etc).

Don't be surprised if he ain't saying much.

Coach Weis Is A Parcells-belichick Hybrid!

Coach Weis Is A Parcells-belichick Hybrid!

Thanks Jigga. I'm sure you are right on with this prediction. After years of listening to Bill Parcells and Bill Belichick give weekly conferences as coaches of the New England Patriots, I can still hear Coach Parcells telling a reporter "That's a dumb ass question." More recently, Coach Belichick treats the press as the enemy and, as acts like a prisoner or war - name, rank and serial number. Coach Weis has learned well from two masters.
Back to Rheama McKnight. Can you tell me, then, what was the exact leg injury that he suffered? What was the extent of his injury? Was there any prognosis on how long he would be rehabbing? Is he expected to be ready for spring practice? These answers will help me with my response to Tom Dienhart's article [see above "Prepare to choke on sappy Quinn stories" in which he opines on why Brady Quinn made a mistake in returning for his senior year; why he will not win the Heisman Trophy, why Notre Dame will not win the National title and why his senior year "will not be dreamy." He goes on to list four reasons, one of which is "Who will be the yin to Jeff Samardzija's yang? Maurice Stovall? Gone."
I've already gleaned this thread to help substanciate my counterpoints, but any additional assistance will be appreciated.

Tom Dienhart is a moron...he's just trying to stir the pot a bit and get readers, because most of the time nobody reads anything he writes. And, oh yeah, he's bitter about us domitating Purdue last year

I'm just about ready to submit my treatise :boxing: to The Sporting News. Unlike Mr. Dienhart, I felt it necessary to try and research my point-counterpoint to his assertions. To that end, I was glad to see that QueensNY added to this thread because I took the liberty - with your approval I hope - to encorporate some of your responses to mine. Although no one offered any updates on Rheama McKnight's situation, I was able to find some information on another site, including a comment that "Rheama McKnight was 100% at the end of the season and could have played in the Fiesta Bowl except that it would have cost him his final year of eligibility".
Can anyone verify the accuracy of this statement? Once again, unlike the author of "Prepare to choke on sappy Quinn stories," :swami: I like to first try and check on my data!

Why so much hate for Tom Dienhart?

"The guy (Brady Quinn) was a lock to be a first-round draft choice this April. A lock." -- Oh, what an insult!

"I think Quinn is better than (Vince) Young." -- Ouch!

"Omar Jacobs? Brodie Croyle? Reggie McNeal? Please. Quinn wins." -- Hey! Them's fightin' words, Tom!

"Remember Matt Leinart? Sure you do. Every mope with a pen, pad and microphone wouldn't let us forget how he sucked every last bit of life out his BMOC gig." -- How DARE you insult Notre D-- wait, what did you say? Leinart didn't go to Notre Dame? Oh, sorry, my bad.

I can't believe this thread is on its fifth page. If y'all would put down your green pitchforks for a second and actually READ the article, you'd realize that the main target of his anger isn't Brady Quinn, or even Notre Dame.

Dienhart's main target is the sports media who, every year, has to find some golden-boy quarterback to annoint and canonize and write 8 billion words about. Last year it was Leinart. Couple years ago, it was Carson Palmer. And next year, it's Brady Quinn's turn, and we all know it, and the only reason -- the ONLY reason -- it WON'T annoy the hell out of us this time is that this time, it'll be our guy, not theirs.

Chill out, peepz... gotta save up some of that righteous indignation for Mark May, ya know. Don't blow it all now.

My sentiments exactly. There's no way for Dienhart to factually prove his argument, because all he's doint is offering speculation about what the press is likely to do. The blitz of Brady stories he foresees is exactly parallel to the way the press treated the Bus during Super Bowl.

He's insulting the professional media, of which he is a member, not ND.

So save your righteous anger for real insults and you will not be dissapointed.

Is this the same Vince Young that scored a 7 on his Wonderlic, or do you used that monicker because you think like someone with that score? Here are the ISSUES.

First, despite all the reasons he listed in the article to leave, Quinn, nevertheless, elected to stay for his senior year. What's wrong with a student-athlete who wants to complete his education from a prestidious institution like Notre Dame - an education which will put him in good sted in the "real world", long after any professional football career is over?

Second, a responsible writer would have checked on the facts before writing a story. For example, he states "I have five reasons to believe Quinn's senior season won't be dreamy." He was incorrect on # 1. Two of the three teams he mentions in # 2 suffered significant loses through graduation and early declaration for the NFL draft. They will certainly have to replace more starters than Notre Dame. And we aren't talking about average players! He fails to recognize that familarity should make continued improvement in their second year under the new coaching staff. If you watched any games last year, a 9-3 with the same material as his predecessor shows that this coaching staff CAN COACH. 4. Rheama McKnight will be returning after suffering a leg injury last season. He was the No. 1 receiver and started before Maurice Stovall. In many ways he is actually a better "yang" for Jeff Smardzija because "The Shark" is a sure handed receiver who will elevate to make the catch, while McKnight is a speedy, explosiver receiver. Undoubtedly, Coach Weis will be able to exploit the matchup problems it will cause for opponents. 5. He does not list his fifth reason!!!!! Perhaps its really that he had nothing else to write about during the lull between the bowl games and L.O.I. day and spring practice. If in doubt [for a story], its always easy to take a shot at Notre Dame. Who writes a story about solely on opinions and makes predictions on the 2006 football season even before spring or fall practice? Why didn't he at least wait until September?

Vince Young and anyone else who concludes that Notre Dame fans are upset with what Mr. Tom Dienhart wrote about Brady Quinn have missed the point entirely. The issue here deals with his lack of accountability for irresponsible journalism.

Gee, it couldn't possibly be that my actual name is Vince Young now, could it? Not everyone on the 'net hides behind anonymity.

And yeah, this thread hit 5 pages because we're all so outraged at shoddy journalism. Sure. And I'll bet if I started a thread on here about Jayson Blair, it'd hit 5 pages too.

Granted, it's not a very well-written piece, and he does take too many cheap shots at Notre Dame -- cheap shots which distract from his main point. But his main point is still valid. And his main point is what everyone in this thread keeps ignoring, because they'd rather be mad at the cheap shots while ignoring the fact that he also had some very complimentary things to say about Brady Quinn in the same article.

But then again, when Maison Bleu starts agreeing with me, maybe it's time to re-think things. :)

I think Tom is just upset because he couldn't get into ND or he was picked last for kickball in grade school and just hasn't got over it.
