schools have authority to restrict the speech and conduct of their students to preserve the interests and safety of the rest of students ... students are restricted in their 1st amendment

I think the fact that Lyerla just put it out there, and didnt openly support the theory, just brought it to light, did no harm to his image or the school.

You are endorsing the position by putting it out there and not saying "hey, did you see what crazy people are saying?" Why would he post it if he didn't think it has merit? The kid deserves everything he has coming to him for involving himself with this garbage. And there is no first amendment issue here. Has nothing to do with the government impinging on people's rights. The school is giving the kid money for an education and letting him play football. They are well within their rights to end both of those commitments if they felt it was proper to do so.

If there was a Venn diagram with the two parts being "People who considered there to be a conspiracy around Sandy Hook" and "People who are not idiots", the two circles wouldn't touch. It's that simple. It's like birthers and people who think we didn't land on the moon.

The "it's a conspiracy!" reaction to virtually every major news event has become rather tiresome. To me, it is a significant by-product of the internet, since anyone can make and post a Youtube video about, for example, "controlled demolition of the WTC on 9/11" etc etc. Prior to the popularity of the internet, you didn't see this take place so frequently on nearly this large of a scale (JFK asassination is one example that does come to mind though), as now it can reach so many (naive) people so quickly. To me, it's an advertising ploy - "let's see what I can put out there that will draw attention to me or my 'cause' " - the old addage of "any publicity is good publicity" is a good description of how this works.

Now on the flip side, you obviously have to take what you see/read online with a grain of salt for the same reasons as the conspiracy theories. But in my opinion, if it sounds too sensationalized to be true, then it probably isn't true - kind of like reading just the headline of a National Enquirer article and then looking inside to find the story was not nearly as spectacular as the title made it out to be. Just use a little common sense now and again.

This kid has some major issues and was never receivers any kind of help. They just thought becoming a big time football player would work itself out.

Anyone that thinks that will work needs help. If you are questionable before hand it'll only get worse.
