Anyone Watching "Walking Dead" on AMC?

I'll say again, the writing has been baaaaad all season. So hit-or-miss.

I'm hoping they saved all of the budget for the finale, because lord knows it's been all profit with these episodes of doing nothing but walking around in the woods.

I saw what they were trying to do last night, but, I thought they failed miserably. Just can't seeing any human reactions being like that, let alone all of the characters breaking with there tendencies in the way they acted.

Spoiler:

My favorite parts were the kid [Glenn], (shows my interest waning fast) pulling the diamond ring off the zombie, to give it to his girlfriend [Maggie], and Merle having his fingers bit off by the Governor, and they made a big, bloody thing of it. Then if you watch the Merle Zombie, and you would have to play it back and forth, (I could be wrong, but I don't think I am), I think he grew them back!

Don't forget when he is hot wiring the car how the windows just happened to be down just enough to use the antenna to pop the locks AND when the walkers came the passenger door was unlocked.

Ha, ha, ha! Yeah, I thought some of that was me!

I used to own a caprice classic, which that was, of a similar but earlier year. When you popped the driver's side, all the locks popped. So, they actually might not have been wrong on that. Mostly little things like that don't bother me, any way. I'll have to check if he regrew his fingers, though. That would be funny.

How about zombie Merle looking like he's been dead for months, instead of a few hours?

Zactly, dude! All for the shock value. Little things mount up after a while. I mean I am willing to look past some things. But we are at a tipping point here.

Just to carry your point one step further. We know that the dead don't have normal resperation. And time after time, they continute to be animated when torn into hideous pieces. So that also indicates that they don't have normal resperation or metobolic processes. And this seems to be borne out in the way the walkers look [they seem to be rotting on the hoof]. So what happens as they continue to decomposed. I mean, when they go to grab you do their arms fall off? At some point do their eyes fall out. There is going to come a day when the walker goes to bite you and his jaw falls off! So then only the newly dead pose real threats? But since most people died in the zombiepockalypse, there aren't many to die any more, are there? Hmmm. Me thinks that someone has written themself into a corner. Last night I heard Rick talk about "ast year at th farm" which means that time is elapsing in the show at a faster rate that in real time, as we would expect. That we are just seeing the highlights. So how are we going to get past the rotten elephant in the room!

I believe that they will address this in the future.

Zombie biology is always a stretch. They can't thermoregulate, so the first post-apocalypse cold snap would cause the fluids in their brains to freeze and expand, destroying them. Dry heat would cause them to dehydrate very quickly, leading to dessication and immobility. And even in an ideal climate, their lack of a functioning immune system leaves them defenseless against organisms that feed on carrion. Fly larvae, fungus, wild dogs, etc. would neutralize the vast majority of zombies before the apocalypse could really get underway.

But that's fine. I have little problem suspending disbelief in most other zombie flicks. In TWD, the Walkers are mostly just a vehicle for bringing about the swift and complete destruction of civilization. So Rick and co. are thrust back into the state of nature, and have to struggle with the same obstacles that produced many of our species' evolutionary impulses after thousands of years of living in caves. That's great; gimme intra-tribal politics (season 2) and inter-tribal warfare (season 3).

But as others have noted, they're not really focusing on the themes that have made the show compelling in the past. And the lazy writing keeps pulling me out of it.

And it leads to overcritical as$holes like us overanalizing the shows shortcomings, LOL! Seriously, make the story compelling if you want to keep the technozombies off of your stretches of suspended science!

Also the gross exaggeration of of smashing and stabbing heads. The zombie "blood" in Season 1 was a blackish tone, now its bright red, like its fresh. I don't think they really need to add in so much gore, I think its shorting why this whole thing is so good and belittling it to a hack and slash.

The storyline has definitely swallowed a bit. I loved when they were just wandering around and did not have secure camps, made the show much more interesting. I also feel like there are less people "wandering" around now which also added a dimension to the show.
As for the episodes of late, they are dragging it out to this "war". First off, if I was Rick and the others, I would be fortifying the **** out of the prison. Second, I would be out scavaging for anything that could help whether it is ammo or other items to barricade entry. Last I am thinking they know this season has turned people off so they are going to end season 3 in the middle of the war so you and I have to watch season 4 to find out what happens, they are baiting and hooking us. Or they are going to rush the war to fit it all into the season finale and add some weird little twist at the end to leave us wondering how it will play out in season 4. This show needs to get back to its roots.

So is it safe to say that most of you would be disappointed if, in the final episode, when the Woodbury folks get there Rick's group just decided to abandon ship?

My wife says she thinks they left. I said no way, it has to be an ambush. I think they lured all the walkers from the yard into that building the preview showed them opening the door and meanwhile Rick and the rest are waiting somewhere nearby to fill the full of lead...at least I hope so. If they had all this build-up just to have Rick's group run away I am going to scream.

^^^ Yeah, I'll be pissed if this is the case...

I third that. And I would stop watching the show.

I am not sure where they go from here since a lot of the characters are different than in the comic. And certain scenes have now completely changed.

Death predictions?? (if you've read the comics please don't post)

I say Herschel is a gonner.

Wild Cards: Carol and the baby

I think Governor survives until the beginning of next season

This shouldn't really disqualify anyone. There's been such significant departure from the comics already that it's still just a guess.

Damn that episode was bad.

I think Glenn or Maggie is gone. That's why they got engaged to make it seem sadder, although the writers for the show will probably mess it up.

So why does Rick suddenly want to get rid of Michonne? Just an off-screen decision? That episode got off to a horrendous start and never got better.

You bring up a good point about the off screen decisions. With this show becoming so popular, these actors have to be getting looks for more luxurious gigs. The actors are asking to get killed off so they can free up there time for a future gig. Maybe that is part of the reason the TV series is straying from the comic series.

My final prediction is that when the governor attacks it attracts a major herd of Zombies which kill the governor and his group.

I have to start by saying Ive just watched the last 2 seasons, missed the first and never read the comics. But my girlfriend was watching season 1 today and was flipping out that a walker was using a brick to smash a window. And how come they sneak up on everyone when you can hear them making that irritating buzzing sound all the time??? And last week one of them was hiding under the bar in that restaurant waiting for the kid to step up there. Im confused at how some of this all fits together. So much inconsistency in behavior is what irritates me I think. But I do love the show.

Thats not it at all, it could be in the future. But Sophia & Dale are still alive in the comic...

I definitely thought last weeks episode foreshadowed Glen or Maggie dying as well. Also, Darrell will be the one to kill the one guy from Woodbury. I'm not sure of his name but he's the one who shared a cigarette with Darrell a few episodes back. I called it then.

Some of the Walkers used to be ninjas. Duh.

I watched an episode from season one last night for experimental purposes. Whoever pointed out that season one was so much better written was right. Thinking about it, they left the really good writing on the farm.

Since Darabont left after Season1, or fired depending on who you believe, the quality has dipped, even so slightly. But here is interesting tidbit about Mazzra:

One source says Mazzara's shortcomings in running the series during the most recent third season became "abundantly clear … especially for the second half of the season." This source says production was shut down "several times" because of a lack of material.

Because it happens in the comic time line as well.
