approved today that will result in ejections for helmet to helmet hits. If the hit happens in the 2nd half, the player will then also not be allowed to play in the first half of the next game.

I know what you mean. The head of officals from the travel jr high league I coach was telling all the representives from each youth associatins that there is going to be new rules on hitting from the Illinois High School Association (we use high school rules). I'm sitting their quietly as he is talking and I was thinking to myself: "Dude I got real obvious helmet to helmet shots on tape that your crews missed now you are telling me you really crack down".

I am all for making the game safer. In fact as a defensive coach. My top priority has been to teach kids how to tackle safe and correct. In some recent clinics I have seen tackling technique demonstrations from Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Northwestern. I think though as you alluded to we have to enfore are current rules before we make new rules.

This is what needs done. Both for kids and professionals.

I haven't been around high school or college teams, but would it be feasible to self discipline the players for making the "blow up hits" instead of wrapping up and tackling. Just spit balling here.

Just a quick jab. I would like to see something that would encourage proper tackling rather than helmet to helmet rules. I just have no idea how to do that. I think of you made it a flag it would have to be called all the time.

Most NFL player's have Riddell helmets. Alot of college teams including Notre Dame I believe are using Schutt that seem to have a bit of a better safety record.

I have been hearing some really good things about a fairly new helment company Xenith. Their newest helmets have this new shock absorb technology. There is not as much leather padding which made me skeptical. I tried one one though. It was snug and felt really comfortable.

I love the idea of moving the Super Bowl to Saturday. I think the College NC game should be held on Saturday too. Most people wouldn't have to worry about getting up for work the next day, and employers wouldn't have to worry about their employees taking a day off on Monday. I hope it happens.

If we would just go back to the old leather helmets nobody would lead with their head...more than once.
