Most likely to change positions: Will Fuller

Most likely to start as a freshman: Max Redfield

Most likely to red shirt: Malik Zaire

Most likely to win an award: Eddie Vanderdoes

Most likely to be a career special teamer: Jacob Matuska

Most likely to have their name butchered by Tom Hammond: James Onwualu

Class most likely to have one third contribute early: Irish Mob '13

Class in the entire nation with the best nickname ever: Irish Mob '13

Players rated lower, poised to "come out of nowhere" to make great contributions: Deeb, Fuller, Matuska, Onwaulu, Robinson, Rochelle.

Players set up by Irish fans to disappoint, but probably won't: Redfield, Smith, Vanderdoes.

Player most likely to impress on punt and kick coverage if he gets a chance: McGlinchey.

Players that could use a year: All offensive line prospects, Kinlaw, Zaire.

Least understood and most brolic player in the class: Folston.

Running backs ready to play: Bryant, Folston.

Most Likely to be sack Max Wittek 5 times: Eddie Vanderdoes

Most Likely to get 10 sacks in one year: Isaac Rochell

Somebody made the comment that if any frosh Oline started this season it would indicate that Hiestand and Longo weren't doing their jobs. This sort of thing makes me bristle a bit. Why?:

1). Hiestand and Longo have already proven that they're doing their jobs. We're lucky to have both of them;

2). We go into this season with a very small ready-to-rock Oline group: ZMart/ Watt/ Lombard/ NMart/ Stanley[assuming full recovery], and Hegarty [assuming full recovery]. Harrell MIGHT be first team quality, but there are no real glowing staff comments yet.

Imagine this, unfortunately unstretched, scenario: Kelly said that he's looking at three possible centers in the Spring [Hegarty, Nmartin, and Harrell]. What if Hegarty can't go? What if Harrell really isn't ready to play first-team quality ball? What if Stanley gets re-injured and NMart has to occupy a tackle or guard position? Who's the center?

Well, given that scene, and hopefully a month or two to prepare, there stands a roughneck named Hunter Biven, who is about as body-ready as anyone we have coming in. Biven takes the field; ZMart and Watt big-brother him through the reads, and we function. So then now we call for Hiestand's and Longo's head? Loose, unrealistic, negative commentary.....

Most likely to play in the first game of the season: Jaylon Smith

Most likely to be an important player no one say coming: Cole Luke

Most likely to be first freshman with a sack: Eddie Vanderdoes

I would echo most of WOOLY's thoughts, although the most important player no one saw coming will be Tori Hunter Jr. He is a STUD.

Most likely to spend 3 years in school (first round talent): Eddie Vanderdoes and Max Redfield.

Most likely to return for a 4th year despite high draft status: Jaylon Smith.

I think we have 4 or 5 1st rounders in this class (Isaac as well as one of the OL road graders).

Do SEC message boards have a most likely to get arrested prediction?

Great post, but what about Connor Hanratty? I am hearing what I saw, and I saw someone dangerously close to Mike Golic, Jr, this last season. The only thing Mike had on him was his experience and smarts.

Other than that I agree with you. I think you need (darned near) 3+ deep consistently on the offense to make it all work. We haven't been solidly two deep for a while. Looking at it that way, give Longo credit for superior conditioning, Nichols, Hegarty, Prestwood, and Curico all were losses that don't count against the conditioning program; and, with the numbers he had, and the number of different coaches the upperclassmen have had, Heistands job performance level peaks above smoke and mirrors, at the miraculous level! Seriously, pulling a top ten college line out of the problems the players, and program has faced with the front five?

Oh, didn't know that! I'm sure Hammond is a nice enough guy, but I honestly think he's been brutal as a play by play guy the last few years. Someone new will be nice... hopefully.

That is really weird! Because nobody that has been around here feels that way! What a different perspective. You should post on the Tom Hammond Fan Club thead.

Thought this would be fun plus it's a pretty dry time of year.

Most likely to change positions: Redfield (guessing he will start the season in specialty role...like maybe hybrid backer like slaughter)

Most likely to start as a freshman: Jaylon Smith

Most likely to red shirt: Tori Hunter

Most likely to win an award: Jaylon Smith

Most likely to be a career special teamer: Deeb

First Sack: Redfield

Most sacks: Vanderdoes

Rookie of the year: Rookie who gets a shot and regular PT because of injury

Feel free to add your own category.

In the discussion of O-lineman...I wouldn't disrespect any, ever...true beasts to a man. I think our S&C is one of those things that is self evident if you lived through 07-09. Same goes for O-line coaching...all line coaching for that matter.

I would say Scheme+Speed of the game+physical maturity = a very tall order for a true freshman. Until you've stood and looked down the line and watched the speed and violence when the ball is snapped(comparing it to HS)...you can't possibly understand the leap in the line play. Its rare to get one who you can plug and play...Sam Young was forced into that role I believe, and he needed help...Smart kid, but the speed and strength part ate him up at times...and when the mental/scheme part got him...OUCH! It is usually a liability if an O-lineman needs to play regularly before their 3rd year IMHO.

Not trying to say I'm definately right about Tori being most underrated, but watch his highlight video below:

This guy is a specimen. Reminds me of Michael Crabtree.

This guy is a specimen.

I don't doubt that...

Assuming he says he's all go, and xrays confirm...is he going to separate himself from the guys we already have? Can't go against Kelly's claim that the best guy plays, but the injury lurks in my mind as a factor...if I have talent and depth at the position, the thought of him in the S&C program for an entire year before he gets banged around alot is attractive to me...

Here are some not so obvious guesses:
Top Special Teams Performer: James Onawalu (for his tackling, think Bennett Jackson his first 2 years)
Pulling a KeiVarie(unexpected frosh impact player): Will Fuller, Deeb finishes 2nd
Top 4 on team in receptions by year end: Tarean Folson
Position Change: Vanderdoes to DE (#7-#1-#3)
Goes back to NT his Soph year

Dude,

There is no such thread. Everyone feels that way, (except me). I am so sorry. I thought my post would come off as funny; I must have gotten the f-u---- out as all.

It astounds me that people that have been on this site forever, and never have complained about anything, get irritated like a man with a migrane listening to squeaky nails on a chalkboard over Hammond. And there was a collective giggle over his being replaced this winter.

So you are new, huh?

I actually remember a few of your posts that I noticed in the AA thread, and the LK thread, and thought that I hoped you would become a regular contributor. I will send a frend recquest and another thing or to. There are a couple users down your way, welcome aboard. And remember if you ever come across some old bogtrotter, pay him no mind and don't take him too seriously!
