Rivals.com four-star wide receiver Jai Eugene of Destrehan stunned folks in Louisiana when he announced earlier this month that he was going to sign with the University of Michigan but as signing day approached, Eugene began to have second thoughts.
On Sunday, Eugene phoned LSU head coach Les Miles unexpectedly and informed him that he would like to switch his commitment if the Tiger head coach would have him.
Family is the major reason for Eugene's change of heart.
"My little boy…I just started realizing what is important to me," Eugene said. "My family and my little boy and the distance is a big factor.
"I love my little boy and I hate to be far away from him because I know I am a big influence on him."
Eugene announced his decision to attend Michigan during the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in January 7. The following week he started thinking differently.
"I started having second thoughts that I didn't tell anyone about and yesterday I just made up my mind and called Coach Miles," Eugene said. "I called him out of the blue and he was surprised."
Eugene says he has already spoken with the coaches at Michigan about his decision.
The Rivals250 prospect was asked if there was one thing that put him over the edge when it came to switching his commitment and he said, "Sunday was my little boys birthday party and it's hard for me to get away from him."
