Rivals.com four-star wide receiver Jai Eugene of Destrehan stunned folks in Louisiana when he announced earlier this month that he was going to sign with the University of Michigan but as signing day approached, Eugene began to have second thoughts.

On Sunday, Eugene phoned LSU head coach Les Miles unexpectedly and informed him that he would like to switch his commitment if the Tiger head coach would have him.

Family is the major reason for Eugene's change of heart.

"My little boy…I just started realizing what is important to me," Eugene said. "My family and my little boy and the distance is a big factor.

"I love my little boy and I hate to be far away from him because I know I am a big influence on him."

Eugene announced his decision to attend Michigan during the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in January 7. The following week he started thinking differently.

"I started having second thoughts that I didn't tell anyone about and yesterday I just made up my mind and called Coach Miles," Eugene said. "I called him out of the blue and he was surprised."

Eugene says he has already spoken with the coaches at Michigan about his decision.

The Rivals250 prospect was asked if there was one thing that put him over the edge when it came to switching his commitment and he said, "Sunday was my little boys birthday party and it's hard for me to get away from him."

Oopsy poopsy. Another one slips away from LLLLLoyd.

Makes sense though. A father that loves his son and cannot be away from him for a long period of time is admirable and understandable.

Our buddy Pope Urban is feeling the sting too.

WR Damian Williams switched over to Arkansas and WR Damon McDaniel has reopened his recruitment.

Hopefully ND doesn't have anyone defect in the next 24 hours.

Hell, do you blame the WRs who decommitted? What does that leave them with now...30 WRs on the roster? These boys must have realized that the time for early PT was not likely.

Yep, I didn't find it very surprising, either. Good for them.

Jai Eugene has a two year old kid. After his kids' birthday party, he decided to de-commit and go to LSU. The original plan was for his dad to take care of his kid while he was playing up in Ann Arbor. The kid made a mistake (well, with a child at 18, he's made other mistakes too). Apparently, it's not over, since his dad was surprised by the sudden change in heart. But, really, I don't blame him for making this decision. It's better that he de-commits now than later when he's unhappy. In fact, I don't think anyone here would blame him for his decision to stay near home.

However, to suggest that Lloyd lets recruits slip is wrong. LLOYD CAN RECRUIT, HE CAN'T COACH. This year's recruiting class is still strong, with one key exception. We need 2 CBs and 2 Safeties. As of now, we only have 1. Mouton might commit tomorrow. But even then, the secondary will still be weak. I guess ND should get ready for a bum rush from our many excellent LBs and DE/DL. I have a feeling that Ron English will throw caution in the wind.

I'm very glad to see michigan lose a top recruit like Eugene, but I think its wrong when a kid decommits a couple of days before signing day. The school you decommit from has no time to replace you, If you're gonna decommit you should do it a month or so before signing day so that the team has time to replace you.

Like I said, great talent but Iowa and Ohio State kids play harder. To me, that is a sign that something is wrong up top.
