I would suggest any serious correspondence on this matter be handled via PM. Good luck, Shark.

Not doing anything makes you just as guilty. Not sure on your line of work but in mine, we are to contact HR in this situation and let it play out from there. Even though HR is half way across the country, they say as long as I let them know of the situation, all is well.

Not much to go on but I can say, one day I sent an email and 2 weeks later...situation was handled. How? I still have no idea. Wasn't my place. I just know that the situation was taken care of.

I sent you a PM, but it was acting squirrelly. Let me know if you don't get.

That's the picture I got from your O.P.

I was a G.M. for two small companies. The company does have an obligation under state/federal laws. A wise owner would realize that. Unfortunately not all owners are wise.

What does your company Policy and Procedure Manual say as how to handle harassment matters? Follow the steps outlined.

Do you have a lawyer/legal firm on retainer? Call them and advice them of the situation. Ask for legal guidance. They represent the company. You have a conflict of interest as your immediate and only supervisor is the alledged protagonist. Document your actions.

Call your own attorney so you don't become collateral damage regardless of the merit of the complaint.

In any case I'd update my resume.

If the owner did transgress, you're the one he/she would most likely blame for not making it go away even if you handle it perfectly.

If the allegation is unfounded a wise owner will realize you were following procedure and the law ultimately, acting in the company's best interest.

Human nature in a sole propriertor doesn't all see it that way.

yeah I'm thinking this will be a good idea.. at least I've met all legal and moral obligations, so what happens happens.. I feel worst for the person bringing the situation to my attention.. no one wins

The person making the complaint has legal protection from the ire of the owner, be it the state, feds, or that individual's lawyer (Dewey, Sue'em, and Howe). You don't.
