I hope CW is working on DT's. I am sure he is, but I don't see any so far. But, it's early. Anyone know if ND has any DT's in mind???

Scout has offers for Chris Rainey, RB out of Florida and Mr. Bonner from GA. Rivals does not.

Rainey appears to favor Florida and Florida State. Bonner favors UGA, GaTech as well as Florida and Florida State.

With 17 offensive recruits this year, I have begun to shun offensive juniors. I'm looking forward to a steady diet of defense verbals for the next 12 months.

Are you sure all 17 offensive recruits are going to play offense? In the other Junior thread we discussed versatility and that Prince, Gallup, and West could play CB. Mullen, Yeatman, and Olson could also be DLs. This class isn't as skewed as their high school position listings would indicate.

Gallup and Prince stay on O.

The rest could all be converted, but how long will it take them to learn the techniques and skills on defense? West and Mullen appear to be the best D candidates.

How long could it take them? Not long at all. Many of them played both ways in high school. For example, Mullen actually played much more defense the last two years than tight end.

ND Nation has always said that West was recruited as a DB, I know that we considered him a WR but I am not sure that is correct although he probably could go either way.

Mullen probably could go defensive but if we remember his interview when he committed, he said he concentrated on Fasano and could picture himself catching passes like him. I only mention this because it is another hurdle in trying to place these guys. If Mullen thinks he is offense it is something else to overcome in making that change. Defense is a state of mind as much as athletecism.

He said that when he committed. In more recent interviews he has said he is willing to do whatever the team needs him to do, which makes me think he's been approached about playing defense.

The kid has backed up his willingness by switching to offensive tackle for his high school team.

This is 100% absolute FACT.

You really have to have the neanderthal football gene to play D.

I read an SI article earlier this year about Dwight Freeney of the Colts. He hates quarterbacks....ALL quarterbacks. He actually said he wished he could hit Peyton Manning in practice. THAT is the neanderthal gene.

I think Zbikowski is a little off. Great HS QB, but you can tell defense lives in him.

We'll see what happens. I hope they can get McCoy so all of this isn't even an issue.

Yeah...you can see it so much that he gets caught out of position on passes quite a bit...no offense to zibby.-

I think that's in large part b/c they misuse him. They play him like a Free Safety, but Zibikowski is a Strong Safety by heart if I've ever seen one. He just wants to hit somebody.

I still think he should be a strongside linebacker. He's fast and tough as nails and will hit the ballcarrier extremely hard.

I know Zibby can hit, but his frame is not that of a linebacker. He doesn't have another 20-30 pounds in him. His best bet, in my opinion is SS and better play recognition. That comes with coaching and experience.

Lookin' good... is Weis not the offensive line guru or what? He is signing and going after some real monsters.

Oglesby and Sam Young possibly being bookend tackles some day makes my defensive minded brain scramble like an egg.

Those are just two nasty dudes.

I like to see two DE's and two TE/DE options, for a total of 4 early potential DE offers.

With the two guys signed this year, I don't think DE is a "numbers" need, but the pass rush is bad and two good ones who can get after the passer need to be added to Wade and Ryan.

It was also be nice to see a "utility" DE who could grow into an athletic DT.

Speaking of DT, I hope some offers start popping up there soon. Landing two DE's may be enough, but I think they need a minimum of 3 DT's. That's a minimum.

Way to go Scoop. You've touched on Jigga's theme for the day.

3 AT LEAST. Probably four. Barksdale and Wade are a start. I think anyone under 285 is a project. They need impact players with gerth and speed.
