ray Lewis hero/Manti Teo villified-go figure that one out. The discussion is how much Notre Dame hate is actually out there to chop up a kid like Teo and deflect heroism to ray Lewis. Of course Lewis has turned a corner in his life but these media scales of balance certainly need some recalibrating. Jerry Springer sports media is not too far off. Hell maybe its here now. Last thought -are we seeing a kid ripped apart for being raised right by caring loving parents vs those who come from less fortunate backrounds. Ray Lewis is not a role model to me-period.

After seeing pictures of his wife, I can understand why he has been dropping so many passes over the last few years.

Being Scottish and seeing the adoration for a scumbag like Ray Lewis is nauseating. The view
here amongst football fans is very different. He was a major part in the murder of 2 guys, by 9 people.

He got rid of his white suit whilst being driven away in his limo.

Read the reports, how many times were both guys stabbed? Not only were they stabbed, but when they were, the knife/knives were twisted to inflict maximum damage and both dead guys had no defensive wounds, meaning they were likely unconcious at the time.

There was a news programme on at the time over here on the anniversary of it and the hype of celebrity in the states. I will never forget it.

They should go the whole hog and have OJ Simpson back interviewing him. Oh wait, Nae chance of that, he murdered a white woman....

Serious question, has he done anything since that shows that he's not trying to atone for what he did? He's a great motivational speaker and I feel like his intentions are good. I want to believe that.

I can see that. But trying to atone does not absolve him from his past sins.

If he was involved in a murder then he's going to need to do a lot more "atonement" to make up for what he's done. He should be in prison not making millions upon millions of dollars living a life of luxury as an NFL legend.

I can definitely understand your side of the argument. Like you said we really just disagree on our definitions of role models. By true role model I don't mean live your life like he did/does. I mean that his story and the hard work and success he has produced is something to admire/strive for. I obviously wouldn't want my son/daughter to have to learn that from making all the bad decisions first like Ray Lewis did and I wouldn't want my child to ever try to live exactly like someone else no matter who they are.

The steroid issue is one that pretty much applies too every professional athlete. I'm skeptical of pretty much everyone, but to condemn based on looks alone is crazy. There are much bigger/stronger guys on Notre Dame even.

Lastly, did I just get in an altercation with the IE 'enforcer'? Love your posts NDinLA

edit: it appears as though Alabama linebacker Nico Johnson sees Ray Lewis as a role model and hearing him talk he sounded intelligent and will actually be graduating from Alabama.

All good bro. We just disagree on the role model stuff.

The steroids thing is a mess. A complete mess. People are getting their brains beaten to the point that they are suicidal, but the NFL basically turns a blind eye to it (baseball's enforcement blows it always, sadly). These guys are so big and fast that someone is going to literally die in the field before the NFL takes a hard look at it. It's a joke and yet incredibly sad at the same time. (And yes, I'd bet my first born son that Rey is on the juice.)
