I won't interview for any jobs."
-- Pete Carroll, when asked about leaving USC.

Translation: "Suckers. Of course, I'm not going to interview for a job. You think Nick Saban interviewed for the Miami Dolphins gig? Here's how it works: You tell my agent how much you're going to pay me to ditch Troy for the NFL, how much control I'm going to have, and then I decide whether I want to box up my cardinal and gold wardrobe."

The NFL offers more money and little else. Why wouldn't he stay at USC for another decade? While I don't think he has any true loyalty to USC, he is a coaching god at one of the two greatest programs in the history of college football.

He has a winning percentage above .750, a few national titles, and a few Heisman trophies. Yes, I think ND will be putting up a fight from now on, but he should win 10 or more games almost every year from here on out.

Agreed. and as has been noted many times, his coaching STYLE is much more suited to college, rather than the pros. Why deal with egos, owners, salary caps, 'competitive parity' (also known as mediocrity....), when you can be a Colossus on one coast and beat up on the WAC-10 (kudos to Jigga there...) eight times a year????

Being as 'media savvy' as Poodle is (i.e. his 'fansite'.....), LA LA LAND is the perfect place for him toil away for another decade and possibly go down in history as one of college's greatest coaches (it hurt to write that...) and then go into broadcasting and take over for Keith Jackasson, when he FINALLY goes to the big ugly farm in the sky....

Because, when you first beat Super Mario Brothers, did you continue to play it endlessly after that? Hell no, you moved on to Super Mario Brothers 2. Life is about challenges... and Pete failed at the NFL level his last go round.

Are you implying that he can win in the NFL a second-time around?

Actually, excepting Madden Football, I stopped playing video games altogether after Mario Bros. 1.

Holtz failed in the NFL and became a highly successful college coach including winning a NC.

When Holtz resigned from the Jets he said he knew football but he apparently didn't know how to motivate millionaires.

Coaches are just as competitive and motivated as the players are. I'm sure he would like to give the NFL another shot, but his "rah-rah" act will never work in the NFL like it does in the WAC 10. Whenever you hear the SC players talk, they use the word "fun" more often than not to describe practices and preparation. The NFL is not fun. It is a business. And the players treat it like a job more than a past time. Is Carroll's personality a fit?

The recruiting monster he has built up should win that conference for years to come. Who does he have to compete with? Sure, he'd be a fool to leave the situation he's in. But the competitive fire in his gut and the MILLIONS they throw in his face are tough to ignore.

well, it looks like to the detriment of us all, he chose to ignore them and just signed an extension w/ USC. I was really hoping he'd go back to the pros too...oh well...
