Reuland Is Coming to South Bend
Baumhower scout.com
The Irish recruiting machine keeps rolling as Scout.com’s No.2 ranked tight end prospect Konrad Reuland picked Notre Dame today over USC and UCLA. Reuland, a 6-6, 240-pound standout from Mission Viejo high school (Calif.) becomes the 25th football commitment for the 2006 recruiting class. “Notre Dame,” Konrad Reuland announced the Irish over USC and UCLA on CSTV. “All three schools are great schools academically and from a football standpoint, but in the end I had to go with my heart and with what I felt deep down inside. All three had a lot of good things going for them. It was a really tough decision and it just came down to what I felt inside and when I closed my eyes, where I imagined I’d be next year – the place that stood out to me was Notre Dame.
“It was very tough. It was by far the toughest decision that I had to make. This past week, I’ve just been going over it, over and over it in my head, kind of switching back and forth. It’s really been stressful and it’s nice to get it out of the way. Playing with Mark would have been awesome. He’s a great quarterback and we had a great year last year, but it just didn’t work out.
“Freshman year I didn’t even play football actually,” Konrad responded when asked if he considered playing at Notre Dame as an option when he was a freshman in high school. “I started playing sophomore year. Even two years ago, I never imagined myself playing for Notre Dame – definitely not.
“Not just what he’s done this year, but the way he’s recruited me,” Reuland said when asked if Charlie Weis’ influence on the Irish had swayed his decision. “They’ve done a great job recruiting me and I really felt wanted over there. This year has been an awesome year and they have a great group of guys returning for next year’s team, and I think I have chance to get in and contribute next year. “Yeah, I’d say so – definitely,” he said when asked if Notre Dame had paid him the most recruiting attention of his top three schools.

What I like about Reuland is that he is physically ready for D I football, with a little blocking work needed. As a pass catcher and route runner, he is going to stretch the field for Charlie's Touchdown Factory. And getting a kid from SoCal right out of Poodle's backyard is delightful. I believe SC was looking at Yeatman as well, though probably with less intensity that Reuland, McCoy and Young.

If Young and McCoy do come aboard, coupled with a Fiesta Bowl win, I think the spring game might be sold out to the top row.

Any idea how many scholarships ND has for next year?

"The thing I was most proud about though was my blocking. I really worked hart at because I honestly wasn't that good at before last season. We ran the ball a lot and by the end of the year, I felt like I was a very good run blocker."

"I liked South Bend as a city as well. I've been told it's a boring place and can get cold but that's fine for me. I'm not a big party guy anyway and I just want to focus on football and schoolwork once I get to college. Notre Dame provides all that for me and then the football side was just a great fit.

"I just went with my heart," he said.

If there was ever a perfect fit for ND this guy has got to be it! Football and schoolwork. And we stole him from right under the Poodles nose! He has made my day.

This is great news. I was able to watch the announcement. He seems like a good kid.

His family dropped the O' before Reuland when they came over......This makes a dreary Friday in near transit shutdown NYC VERY NICE. Poor Poodle must have wet the floor when he heard about Konrad O'Reuland.

Think he's talking to, no PLEADING with Bush this morning not to go to the NFL....

The best thing he said was "the way Charlie recruited him"....that bodes REALLY well for the future...

NEXT.......

SC is in trouble. We're stealing recruits from under their nose. Guys.......it looks like Notre Dame is back on the scene permanently. Isn't it great? Let us all lean back in our chairs, take a deep breath, and savor the moment. Yeah, that's it. Bask in the glory.

Amen to this brother! Now SC is having trouble keeping up with us in recruting. Carroll will jump to the NFL in the next 12 months. Write that down.

How good is this team going to be in 2007........WOW.

Actually, I see 2007 being a down year do to youth and inexperience at QB. Next year there's a shot at the title. 2007 will be a rebuilding year do to shallow classes the last two years. This class will be great but will be sophmores with little experience in 07. Don't get me wrong, I expect a good season in 07, maybe 2 or 3 losses.

Starting in 08, I expect constant reloading ala the current USC.

They lost Reuland to ND and Louis Holmes, a 6-5 280 DE....to ARIZONA!! Ouch. And he's a Juco guy too, which is Petey's bread and butter.

I don't know who can catch up to them in the WAC 10, but nationally it is starting to happen.

Florida is going to be a force.

But ND appears to be in tremendous shape.

Yeah, it looks like Urban's staff can recruit a little bit. He'll have to make adjustments to his offense, though. Either that or go recruit the next Michael Vick. There's too much speed in the SEC. Those defenses will eat the option for breakfast. I'm interested to see how he does with his recruits. You know...is he going to be one of those guys that gets the top recruits initially, but then loses them because his offense fails to maximize players abilities. Charlie won't have that problem.

It's all here waiting for you: concussions, broken bones, 300 pound D linemen that run like linebackers and a place in the Gator QB club of unfullfilled expectations.

Come run the option and get killed by a 245lb linebacker that runs a 4.5. Be the next in a long line of QB's that never perform up to expectations and the ones that do go to the NFL and suck out loud. Urban will need at least 4 QB's. One is assured of getting pounded (i.e.-Chris Leak)

In all seriousness, Urban has Mattson and Strong on his staff. They're pretty good recruiters.

Strong will be a head coach at some point. He is not only qualified but is a minority candidate, which will open the doors for him to at least get interviews from schools that are in compliance with the interviewing process.

Strong needs an opportunity and the rest will take care of itself.
