"I’m 100 percent committed to Notre Dame," Frazer said. "I've been loyal for the last 11 months and I'll stay loyal for the rest of my life."

Demetrius Jones: Notre Dame's next great Apache Linebacker.

(He'll probably end up winning the Belitnikoff (sp) and you guys will crucify me. I'll take that chance until it happens.)

Jones to WR???

I would have thought him a Thorpe candidate. ND needs safeties that can play the pass!

BGIF, I refuse to start a war over 18 year old children with you. This kind of banter is what they do on the rivals boards and I'm not up for it. I am often sarcastic and opinionated, but mean no harm. And that's why we're here. I'm turning on the high road.

I took your Division II (I-AA) comments to heart. You know nothing about me and what I've done. Just like I don't know about you or if you've ever had two knee surguries. You made your point, and then some, inappropriately. Then I wondered, maybe you know Mitch Mustain. Maybe you're related. Whatever the connection, I was out of line for what I said. I apologize for that. After all, he's a child. But I'm done with it. I enjoy reading your posts. Your experience as a writer is valuable to this site. Doesn't give you the right to go after people personally. People see that stuff, why tell us anything about yourself? Again, the Rivals site is great for insulting others. I am the first person to admit when I'm wrong. I had no course for bashing Mustain. It was a foolish thing to say.

Mitch Mustain has brought about one good thing: an epiphany. These are seniors in high school barely able to vote who can't go to a restaurant and have a beer. They read these boards and laugh at some of what we say.

Jones will play where they tell hm to play because he's that type of kid. I'm sure Frazer will do the same. I simply find it amusing that every other position gets mentioned with his name in the sentence. To me, having Jones is a great problem to have. I'd like to see him on the field, regardless of position.

In the end, no big deal.

Happy Holidays guys. Go Irish.

From the Gridiron,

Jigga

I'm not getting worked up over it and I'm sure as $hit not going to get into verbal wars with other ND fans. Irishenvy "Oregon Week" was enough for me.
Happy Holidays guys. Go Irish.

Man, that "Oregon Week" killed me too. I was half thinking of checking myself into Anger Management after that one. Now that they have flown South for the winter, I am in a much better place now.

In their shoes, I might have felt the same. But their arguments were weak....and stupid.

back to the frazer quote...compare the type of quote we get to the type of quote we'd have gotten from one of urban meyer's recruits had he actually been interested in the job at ND.

portis is a true freshman playing behind a highly recruited (and still talented, despite meyer's round peg in a square hole approach), yet he displays this brand of selfishness.

it's just a different type of kid at ND, plain and simple:

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- No. 16 Florida will spend the next few weeks trying to settle on a backup quarterback for the Outback Bowl.

Freshman Josh Portis has decided to transfer and will not be with the team for the game Jan. 2 against No. 25 Iowa, leaving the Gators with little experience behind starter Chris Leak.

"Huge concern," coach Urban Meyer said. "Keep Chris healthy."

Cornelius Ingram and Gavin Dickey shared repetitions as the backup during practice Tuesday, but neither has thrown a pass this season.

Ingram, a 6-foot-4, 225-pound redshirt freshman who also played on Florida's basketball team last season, was going to switch positions before next season. But Meyer said Ingram will work at quarterback and tight end leading up to the bowl game.

"He's fun to watch," Meyer said. "A lot of our players have commented about he's a big talented guy, athletic guy."

Dickey, a 5-foot-11, 205-pound junior, played quarterback his first two years at Florida before moving to receiver this fall. He caught one pass for 12 yards this season.

Both Ingram and Dickey took snaps at quarterback in the second game of the season against Louisiana Tech. Ingram ran twice for eight yards. Dickey carried once for a yard. But they have done little under center since, even in practice.

Leak and Portis got most of the work.

But Portis abruptly decided to transfer last week, citing a lack of playing time. His mother, who moved him from several high schools in California, played a major role in her son's decision.

Meyer wouldn't talk about the transfer.

"I'd rather talk about the bowl game," he said. "At some point, I'll say something about that. Not today."

Portis played in six games this season and had mixed results. He was 6-of-11 passing for 81 yards with an interception. He also ran 29 times for 163 yards.

Portis, who initially committed to Utah before following Meyer to Gainesville, said he wanted to go where he could play.

"Even after wins, you feel sad inside because you're a great player and you want to be on the field," Portis told The Gainesville Sun. "How do you feel if someone says good game and you can't even help your team out?

"I don't like sitting on the sideline. I want to be on the field."

Yeesh. A true freshman griping about playing time. This is why I don't like annointing freshmen. I'm excited about this class, but I'd be concerned if we ever have to rely too much on true fresmen.

On Jones-Quarterback Quarterback Quarterback.

On Rivals-Downright unreadable at times. The big network boards tend to get that way.

Their message boards suck. They spout more conspiracy theories than you can think of.

ND hate exists....get over it. The world is not secretly planning to tear down the Golden Dome. No one is going to invade and drag Weis out of a spiderhole.

They really need to get over it. And they flame each other like they're Oregon fans.

Not very much good discussion.

Portis, well, everything happens for a reason. Look at the school and not the coach. You never know what will happen in five years.

sorry, jiggs - that's a total cop out. it all begins and ends with the coach. he evaluates more than just talent. he evaluates the type of kid - the attitude and perspective - that will be playing for him.

ego and selfishness aren't subtle character traits. you can spot them a mile away. the type of players on any given team are a direct statement about the character of the coach.

Big I, I agree with you. But deciding on a school, you really need to include the coach as a portion of the equation and not the sum. This is, in my opinion a big mistake players make.

Can you see yourself going to school there if for some reason you can't play football anymore?

Who else are they recruiting at your position? Who else is there now at your position?

What if the coach leaves for a bigger school? Urban did this with Bowling Green and Utah.

Don't get me wrong, the coach is a major piece of the puzzle. But these guys need to look at the big picture. I don't understand why Portis did what he did, but I'm sure Urban influenced it.

Is it me, or do Jones and Frazer already sound like Weis guys?

"You tell the Notre Dame fans that Demetrius Jones is doing everything he can to focus on my academics and to get prepared to come in a win the quarterback job at Notre Dame. I don't care about anything else. That's my goal."

Doubt anyone will beat out Quinn, but these two are clearly on board with that Weis-like aura.

Florida State had this swagger. USC has it now. This is year one of the attitude adjustment at Notre Dame.

Portis speaks
Gainesvillesun.com

In an exclusive interview with The Sun, former Florida quarterback Josh Portis made it clear Monday that his decision to transfer was his own and it had been building over the course of the season.

"I thought it was best for me. I wanted to leave," Portis said. "I wasn't happy during the season. It kept building and building. I didn't tell anybody because I didn't want it to be a distraction.

"I've got to end it. I'm leaving, that's the bottom line. I'm going to move to a better place for me."

Portis, a true freshman, cited a lack of playing time as the main reason behind his decision to leave. Portis said before several games this season the coaches put in packages for him to play during the week, but then didn't play him on Saturday.

"The things they told me before the game they never did," Portis said. "Even after wins, you feel sad inside because you're a great player and you want to be on the field. How do you feel if someone says good game and you can't even help your team out?

"I don't like sitting on the sideline. I want to be on the field. I don't want to be one of those guys (on the sideline). I'm going to go somewhere where I can make an impact on the team."

Portis played in six games this season, rushing for 163 yards on 29 carries. He threw only 12 passes, completing six for 81 yards, with one interception.

Portis did not attend last Thursday's practice and informed UF coach Urban Meyer Friday morning that he was going to transfer. Portis had planned to stay on the team through the Jan. 2 Outback Bowl, but Portis said Meyer told him before Saturday morning's practice he would not be allowed to remain if he was going to transfer.

"I talked to Coach Meyer and he said, 'I can't let you play. You'll be a distraction to the team when you know you're going to leave,' " Portis said. "It's better that I move on."

Portis said his chances of playing in the second half of the season sustained a major blow when Meyer and offensive coordinator Dan Mullen revamped the offense during the open date before the Georgia game and went with a more conventional scheme that included two backs and a tight end. Portis ran a spread-option offense at Taft High School in Woodland Hills, Calif., that is similar to the offense Meyer ran at Utah and at UF in the spring and through the first seven games this season.

"I would have made the most of it if they'd given me an opportunity in the spread," Portis said. "They changed the whole offense and went with double tight ends and a fullback and expected me to learn the plays. The plays were longer and usually the spread plays are real quick. It was like, what the hell is going on? They said I couldn't read the plays, but that's not true at all.

"I wasn't comfortable in the (revamped) offense and next year they're going to run the same offense."

Portis said he also was upset by the fact that in his limited playing time he usually was restricted to just running the ball.

"I can throw the rock," he said. "Everyone saw that in the spring game. I don't know what the deal was."

Portis said he has one more final exam to take at UF, then he will start exploring his transfer options. Portis said he already has three schools in mind - two in the Pac-10 and one in the ACC (not Florida State). He said he will not transfer to another SEC school.

Portis said he is relieved about reaching his decision to leave UF.

"I don't regret coming here. It's been a learning experience," he said. "I'm good now."

Sounds like The Pope is scrapping the razzle dazzle Ute Alex Smith offense in the SEC?

At least for Leak's last year. Probably a smart thing considering Leak's abilities.
