Notre Dame running back Rashon Powers-Neal, a fifth-year senior who was the starting fullback, was suspended by the Irish for driving under the influence of alcohol in a St. Paul suburb last month, he told the Pioneer Press this week.
Powers-Neal confirmed a story that initially was published in the South Bend Tribune. Last week, he pleaded guilty to a fourth-degree driving-under-the-influence violation. He said he accepts blame for his actions.Powers-Neal, 22, who already has graduated with a degree in finance, told the Pioneer Press he was charged with DUI when he was stopped for speeding on Oct. 8. His driver's license has been revoked for 30 days.
Powers-Neal, who has missed six games during his suspension, is uncertain what's left of his football career at Notre Dame. He has been suspended by the school through Dec. 7.
"Hopefully, I can see if I can play in the bowl game; if not, I'm going to get ready for the NFL," Powers-Neal said this week from South Bend. "I wish it could have worked out differently, but I've got to pay the consequences for my actions. I have [by being suspended]."
