Notre Dame running back Rashon Powers-Neal, a fifth-year senior who was the starting fullback, was suspended by the Irish for driving under the influence of alcohol in a St. Paul suburb last month, he told the Pioneer Press this week.

Powers-Neal confirmed a story that initially was published in the South Bend Tribune. Last week, he pleaded guilty to a fourth-degree driving-under-the-influence violation. He said he accepts blame for his actions.Powers-Neal, 22, who already has graduated with a degree in finance, told the Pioneer Press he was charged with DUI when he was stopped for speeding on Oct. 8. His driver's license has been revoked for 30 days.

Powers-Neal, who has missed six games during his suspension, is uncertain what's left of his football career at Notre Dame. He has been suspended by the school through Dec. 7.

"Hopefully, I can see if I can play in the bowl game; if not, I'm going to get ready for the NFL," Powers-Neal said this week from South Bend. "I wish it could have worked out differently, but I've got to pay the consequences for my actions. I have [by being suspended]."

Come on Charlie and reinstate this man. He has paid for his mistake and ought to be allowed to go out with his teammates. Even if he can't play in the game he should be dressed and with the others.

I agree. I like him and plus who hasn't had a few and gotten behind the wheel. Sure it's very irresponsible, but I can't act like I've never done it before. I think he should practice and play.

Is anyone else really impressed about the level of privacy Coach Weis and the University has shown through the whole ordeal?

Oh, well, between the NYTimes and whatnot, I thought you would have learned that Catholic institutions are naturally secretive...

In all seriousness, as he is a legal adult and it happened off-campus, I don't understand why it wasn't released in the Minneapolis or Saint Paul papers. Even when the South Bend Tribune finally released it Thanksgiving weekend, my parents still didn't see it in the local Twin Cities papers (and they asked me about it every friggin' week).

The team keeping it secret is one thing, but I don't know how they kept it from being sniffed-out be the media.

Not really, it's S.O.P. at ND. This was not a "team violation", it was a Student Affairs matter. It was an Administrative issue not a coaching issue although many programs let the coach step in to minimize loss of PT. ND as a policy does not comment publicly on a student issue. Hence there was no team keeping it a secret. In the past information on an infraction has come from the student side or a third party.

Right, but I was getting at the fact that is somehow stayed out of the media since it was a criminal offense. Usually that doesn't stay private too long, no matter what school they're at. That is what amazes me.

This could be one of the most idiotic things I've ever read. I can only pray at night that I don't ever drive in the same state as you at any point in my life. Truly amazing that nobody else stood up for this type of statement. To act like that type of behavior is acceptable because you've done it before is simply flawed logic. RPN aside, this is a statement that will forever tint my view on any post that you ever make. Unbelievable.

Idiotic, huh? Before you ever open mouth and insert foot maybe you should really take some time to discover the meaning behind the statement. Do I drink and drive now? No. Have I ever had a few and gotten behind the wheel? Yes. I was 20 and in college the last time I had a few and got behind the wheel. I'm 29 now and I haven't gotten drunk in over 7 years. It's very irresponsible to drink and drive and what I was saying is that I have no right to act holier than thou and pretend like I've never done anything irresponsible. I wasn't saying that it was acceptable. That's never acceptable. He did something that is totally irresponsible and should pay the penalty for it. He doesn't need anybody else downing him because of it. He's paid the penalty and I think he should get the chance to play. Is it clear now?

And for your information, it's not flawed logic. It's me refusing to be self-righteous, which is usually the attitude people exemplify in situations like this. You don't know me at all, so you can get off your soapbox and shove it up your a$$. Sorry guys. He pissed me off majorly. I hope I was clear enough for you buddy.

A friend of mine said it was in the matter of record part of the paper, but didn't make it as a story.

Domer, I am on with you! "let him who has no sin throw the first stone" (not trying to promote religion-just making a point). Now, on to the Fiesta!!!

The 'holier than thou' defense is trite and predictable. I made no reference to RPN in my post and was merely commenting on your "opinion". It was clear that you were excusing RPN's behavior because you've done it before and, probably to make yourself feel better, insinuated that most people have as well. So you can continue to drown out your original post by backtracking and continuing to use vulgar language. I don't think anything you've said warrants any further response.

I do apologize for the vulgar language. I don't understand what's not clear here. Did I not say that it was unacceptable? Did you miss that? What am I defending? If I'm defending anything, it's that everybody makes mistakes and acts irresponsibly. It's what you learn from it that makes you a better person. That doesn't sound like excusing the behavior. Did I not say that it was also irresponsible and that the penalty should be paid for doing something that can harm others? I'm sorry, but I really don't understand where you are coming from. What my post meant (maybe I should have worded it different) was that he did wrong and he should pay the penalty. If you watch the news or go to college you see alot of people exemplifying the same behavior. How is that insinuating anything? When I was in college, I got behind the wheel one time (and it was on campus) after I had few. The other times, I called a friend. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person who had a few in college. Once again my friend, you don't know me so don't even try to pass judgement on me. And...I don't think anything you've said warrants any further response as well. It's clear there is a failure to communicate here and that you're trying your best to be a somewhat of a jerk. On to discussing the BCS.

Yeah, I don't know what's with this guy. Everybody knows how the media is when they get their hands on info like this. It's a whole bunch of bashing and judging the player. That's what I was referring to. I was doing it without turning this into a religious thread. Then he's going to call it the "holier than thou" defense. Defense of what? I'm not defending anybody. Clearly he didn't understand what I was trying to say and then without even knowing me he's going to attack me. Is he an Oregon fan or something. Whatever. How bout those Irish? Arizona here we come!!

I thought Rashon and Charlie handled this decision very well.
