I think Manti is lucky that Collin Klein lost. Baylor helped the Irish in more ways than one.
I think Ndamukong Suh had to be there and peaked late. He was the best player that year, but didn't win it.
Jarvis Jones has had a pretty good year, but not really seeing his name getting thrown out much.
I think the lack of a solid qb with a perfect record might open it up.
I can't imagine the speech he would give if he won...It would be an instant classic
"I'm better than all of you. Give me my trophy and a six pack of beer. Oh, and bring over those girls...uhhh...goodnight"
Ever notice how some people are never funny JK, even whether they try hard or knot?
I can't go on twitter without seeing something about Manti and the Heisman (granted, I am following every ND person I know). But pictures of Magic Johnson in ND gear pulling for Manti, Eddie George, Dickie V, etc.
Plus I listened to the Herbstreit and Fowler podcasts today. They were talking about intangibles with Manti, and said there is no possible way you could quantify what he does for the team. Manti is definitely picking up some steam...
Herbstreit said he would probably be voting for Manziel on the local ESPN radio station yesterday. Said that he would sit down after this weekend and figure out his vote and he was leaning towards Manziel.
He also repeated the stuff about intangibles with Manti, how you can't just look at numbers for him.
Jones is a freaking beast and will be a monster in the NFL....but he probably can't spell his name (not a UGA requirement) And plays a different position than Manti
And you're right, this could be one of the weakest QB classes in a while. Especially when the top prospect, Barkley, had a horrible year with the two best WR's in CFB...and the other top prospects are scramblers! LOL....
I found this in a NY Times article where his Dad gave this summary

1983 **** fighting champion? LOL
I am surprised LSU ranked that high. They gave up some points to some bad teams. On the other hand they played good teams tough.
I went to work.
I live in Carlsbad, freakin' New Mexico.
Taking to neutral fans: we're 50/50.
Te'o os picking up steam.
He's gonna win it.
I'm not joshing you guys.
He's bringing home the hardware.
And the team Crystal.
Sounds like a bunch of c0ck and bull - amazing that one would think to look at the number 5.0 tackles by Manti, (one interception), on 51 plays by USC. That is a 12% bad day. Who else plays that way against a prolific defense; with competition from the rest of the defense for picking meat from the bones, like Manti competes against with this kind of brolic defense.
Please note: the poor secondary, once again produced the leading tackler, Mathias Farley, with 9; too bad ND's defensive secondary sucks so bad. (Farley's numbers were because of the game situation. But those Db' CAN play, can't they?)
Older sportswriters, silent majority, intersect with a much more honest and genuine attitude sweeping the country, of which Manti could be the face . . .
Manti will be on the Dan Patrick show tomorrow, as will Johnny Foosball.
Didn't realize until his show today but DP has a vote in the Heisman. Hopefully, NBC persuades him to give it to Manti.
