I think you guys underestimate what the MIKE does. I know BK has been singing Grace's praises (and I'm tickled shitless) but having Dan Fox and a first year starter WHO IS RUNNING THE ENTIRE DEFENSE isn't a recipe for success.

Remember when Te'o played MLB as a true frosh? Yeah he made tackles, but only because of his athletic ability. He was often out of position.

Except Grace isn't a true freshman and I would hope Fox can call out plays, IF it's true that the 2 ILB are pretty much the same .

I said I wouldn't get into this but I was too weak. I'm out. Time will tell. But what a great position to be in.

Carlo is proven? As a back up as a senior? Guys, hate to break it to you, but he's not that good.

Jalen was a 3 star by rivals, scout, and 247.

Edit: I understand that any recruit that is viewed as as 'elite' can be a flop. But we already know what we get with Carlo. It's a backup senior.

See above post, my point was that Carlo is able to play now and we are about winning now! Yes, its fun to think about grabbing all these recruits but not at the expense of the players who got us here I guess is my point. Carlo isnt Teo or the biggest difference on defense but their is a reason Diaco and Kelly play him and thats because they trust him more than anyone else on our roster at that spot so it baffles me that you guys want to toss them out so quickly for a player who probably wont contribute for 2-3 years.

I'm actually in full agreement with you about Carlo and 5th year seniors, I was just fact-checking your statements on Jalen. I would point to Goodman getting a 5th this year as a prime example of the benefit of bringing back a guy like Carlo for a 5th year. Although he hasn't played very much this year, the Goody has made several huge catches which have greatly contributed to our undefeated season. He also provided leadership for a young, but talented WR corps. Plus, you lose Carlo, you lose his people.

Yeah, well, he's playing behind Te'o.

You're right, Carlo isn't an All-American. But nobody on the board, but you, is comfortable with a first year starter being the MIKE and QB of the defense while a 5th year LB is let go.

I am excited about Grace... I would love to see the two deep look something like

Grace/Anzalone
Fox/Moore

I think Kendall Moore can fill in as the new Calabrese to our Carlo/Fox pairing at WILL. Let Jarrett Grace take over the MIKE, but just let Fox or even Spond call the defense.

Yeah, I think people are sleeping on Grace a bit. I don't see how someone can use the reason of not wanting to break in a new middle lb as why you want Carlo to stay. It is either break a new one in this coming year or have two brand new starters come in the season after that who have absolutely no experience running the defence... It's not like Grace would have to call the defence, Kelly has said the positions are basically the same, but it is obvious Manti is the leader so he calls the defence. I don't see why the will (Fox) couldn't do it until the Mike needed to.

Ha great post and excellent reference to Goody as a 5th year who most wanted gone that ended up contributing on and off the field.

Grace will be a junior next year not a freshman so that argument makes little sense. He's not coming from high school, the guy has been around for 2 years before playing. Why can't Fox call the plays? The positions are basically the same so you wouldn't force the Mike to call the plays if someone else is better at it. There are even teams that have safeties call the plays. It is usually just that a middle lb is the defensive leader which is what Manti is.

It is better to have one vet and a 1st year starter next year than two first year starters the year after in my opinion. You have to start some new players sometime.

I am personally hoping that some of the elite d takles for some reason decommit from their school and ND can hope on one this year.

Until somebody can let us know what that article says and maybe that has some additional information. I still think that Moore is a very distant possibility. In case something happens wtih Redfield we need to continue to recruit these kids but that doesn't mean that they are automatic takes. We are all in on Redfield and don't think we'll take both. Meaning I highly doubt that if Moore wanted to commit he could. JO said it best that because of how well the team is doing some of these players missed out by not commiting sooner and I think LJ falls in that category.

That is what too many people forget about on this site. It is either replace one at a time or replace the entire unit the following year. Reps to you for reminding me about that.

Not sure who or what year:

Love this kid's film... RT @JHopkins247: #ND makes new contact with 5-star DL Notre Dame makes new contact with 5-star DL (VIP)

It's Vanderdoes. (I posted something about it in his thread.)

Denbrock left him a voice mail. Vanderdoes hasn't returned the call yet but he intends to.

He had all his visits picked out. I assume Denbrock is trying to get us one and push another school off the OV list.

I couldn't find the visitor thread. Has anyone made a list of the recruits currently planning a visit for the banquet?

What is the significance of this tweet:

Interesting note to remember: #NotreDame had 19 commitments to the 2013 class before it played the 1st game of this undefeated season.

I think his point is that people shouldn't attribute all of our recruiting success to the on-field success this season. We had commitments from most of these dudes before the season even started.

Might also be stating the what if we would have waited to fill those spots. What would the class be?

True, but keeping all these guys in fold can be attributed to the success on the field. If the Irish would have been 7-5, some guys might have bounced. It is looking more and more like no one will decommit at this point. We'll see I guess.

Yep, good point. This was always a tight group, but still you never know who might have thought the grass was greener at another school. Guys get to their AA games and meet people whose teams just played in BCS bowls ... it happens every year.

I tweeted Tyler James, and he said it will make more sense when he posts his article he's working on in a little bit. I'll post it when it comes.
