Austin still has ND in Top 5

Terrance Austin is having a tremendous senior season. His team is in the second round of the state playoffs and Austin has caught 42 balls for 830 yards and eight touchdowns. He took his second recruiting visit of the season last weekend.

"I just got back from Oregon," Austin said. "It was real nice. The facilities, the coaches, the game, the Civil War...the whole thing was fun. They run a spread offense, 3 WRs on the field, they throw the ball a lot."

Austin listed the Ducks in his top five. "It's UCLA, Notre Dame, Oregon, Miami, and Arizona."

Austin, who is scheduled to visit Miami this weekend and Arizona on Jan. 13, spoke about why Notre Dame and Miami are so high on his list right now. "Notre Dame is cool," he said. "The coaches are very informative and answer your questions. They throw the ball a lot. I was up there for on official when they played SC. I visit Miami this week. I really like them, their history with their wide receivers. Look at the guys that have been there. Sinorice Moss is there balling, Santana Moss was balling when he was there, Kellen Winslow, nothing wrong there."

Austin isn't worried about potentially leaving his home state for college. "No problems going out of state," he said. "I have to go some place for four years, so it should be a place where I feel comfortable."

What will factor into his final decision? "Comfort level at being there," he said. "I also want to play right and be active. I want to be comfortable with the coaching staff, comfortable at the school."

Looks pretty good for Notre Dame on this one since he spoke specifically on how the coaches were there for him.

If he wants to be Irish, they'll find a way to get him in IMO.

We have the possiblity of 3 early entries right now (Aldridge, Stewart and West) and that means we will have at least 3 more spots above the 25 available.

They're going to need a ton of receivers, especially after Quinn, Samardzija and McKnight are all gone after '06.

Austin, Parris, Gallup, Jackson and West zipping down field would sure look nice.

Long Beach Poly (Calif.) wide receiver Terrence Austin was supposed to visit Miami this past weekend but the Canes canceled all visit. With a full visit schedule set before he makes his announcement, Austin said it's going to be tough trying to squeeze the Canes in.

"Austin, 5-10, 170 pounds and his Jackrabbit teammates were shocked by Servite last Friday in the second round of the CIF playoffs, the first time in his career the receiver won't be playing for a section championship.

"Man, it was horrible," Austin said. "Offensively, we just couldn't get anything going. They stacked the box so we couldn't run the ball and when we tried to throw it, our quarterback had no time to pass. So we kept going three and out and our defense kind of got tired from being on the field the whole game. We were up 20-7 at halftime and ended up losing 28-7.

"Right when the game was over, I was in shock and couldn't believe that my career was over. I still have the two all-star games (CaliFlorida, Army All-American) games to play and then I'll be ready to play in college but I really bad for my teammates that just played the last game they'll ever play. That's who I really feel for right now."

Austin was supposed to fly out to Miami following the game but had the trip canceled earlier in the week.

"They (Miami) actually canceled everyone's visit," Austin said. "After they lost to Georgia Tech the week before, they called up and said they really needed to focus on winning their game with Virginia so they didn't want to host any players this weekend so their focus could be totally on the game.

"I was disappointed because I really wanted to check them out and meet the coaches, especially the receiver coach and Coach Coker as well. They talked about re-scheduling it but I'm going to the UCLA-USC game this weekend and then the following weekend, I'm taking an official visit to Arizona (Dec. 9). My UCLA visit will be (Dec. 16) and then it will be Christmas and the dead period, the two all star games and I'll be announcing at the Army game so I don't know when I'll be able to fit that Miami trip in."

Austin said he'll have a home visit with Arizona on Wednesday and Oregon on Thursday.

"I know UCLA and Notre Dame are hoping to come in as well but we haven't talked about a particular date yet," Austin said.

As for the game this weekend between USC and UCLA.

"I think UCLA has a shot," Austin said. "It's going to be hard to contain Reggie Bush because he's incredible. You can almost put him down for three touchdowns every game. Still I think UCLA has a shot because Maurice Drew didn't play last year and I think this year's UCLA team is a lot better than last year's and last year's game was really close. I'm exciting about it and hope it's a great game."
