End of Year Awards

As we approach the end of the year, it is natural to start thinking about All American awards. Alot has been written regarding Brady Quinn for Heisman etc. But let's look at all the key players.

I'd love to hear thoughts on the following players as 1st Team, 2nd, 3rd, HM (honorable mention), or none. The following are my thoughts.

Brady Quinn - 2nd (behind VY and ahead of ML)
Jeff Samardzija - 1st
Mo Sto - 3rd
Fasano - 2nd
Darius Walker - None
Brandon Hoyte - HM
Zibby - 2nd
Ryan Harris - 3rd
Mark LaVoir - HM

Samardzija MIGHT be first team.

Fasano will be second team, Mercedes Lewis of UCLA first.

My Heisman ballot would look like such:

Young
Bush
Leinert
Quinn
Calhoun

Does #4 get BQ an invite to the dance?

Brady will be in New York for the crowning of the Heisman (in my opinion).

Here's my list and why:

Reggie Bush - Never seen someone take over a game like him
Vince Young - Flat out gamer
Brady Quinn - Most impressive year-to-year improvement
Matt Leinart - With tools like he has, why wouldn't he put up numbers?
Brian Calhoun - Great burner...has a game-breaker style

The top five guys get invited to the Downtown Athletic Club.

I have to think Quinn will be there.

Quinn's locked up his seat at the DAC for the Heisman presentation, unless he stumbles mightily against Syracuse AND Stanford :knock on wood:, I think. In fact, if he lets loose on those two teams the way he has against other low-level opponents this year (BYU, Washington, etc) I really think he's got a decent shot at finishing second in the voting w/ the kind of numbers he's put up lately.

No, they don't. The Downtown Athletic Club is kaput. It ran on hard times financially in the '90's and on 9/11 was undergoing renovations when the airliners hit the Twin Towers a couple of blocks away. It closed down as a result of extensive dust and debris damage.

Since then the Heisman has been presented at the Marriott Marquis, The Yale Club, and the NY Hilton. After 2006 the Heisman will be housed at the new National Sports Museum in NYC.

Whatever.

Quinn is a top five finalist. Vince Young will win it.

They can do it in Paducah, Kentucky and not much is going to change that.

After staying up to watch SC play Fresno State last night, ignore the post above.

Reggie Bush is the greatest football player I have ever seen.

Bush is the hands-down winner, even without his incredible performance against FS. Young is second. Quinn is forth unless he bombs at Stanford.

Next year it's Quinn

I hope Reggie Bush gets drafted by the Packers so I can watch him play at least twice a year on TV.

I would also look forward to watching him blaze down the sidelines in 15 degree weather as Brian Urlacher knocks him back into "619".

Reggie will play for a cold weather team in the NFL.

Reggie Bush won this year's heisman. No doubt bout it. After the Fresno State game. He is the best college football player.

Revision:

That would be my order.

Does anybody think Bush will NOT win it? They must not have seen the FS game!

I'm honestly glad I stayed up to watch that game.

The arguments for schools like Fresno State, as in "They don't play anyone" are going to have those who use them looking for new material. Fresno State will play with anyone, anywhere and compete. Pat Hill is a tremendous coach. Those guys were playing to win, believing they could do it.

And Reggie Bush was sensational. I said after watching him live against ND that he was the best football player I've ever seen. His performance against Fresno State might have been the best in a single game I've ever watched.

Bush is the best college football player this year. He hits the hole as if he's shot from a cannon. It's amazing. The slightest slither of daylight is turned into a 50 yard gain. That guy is just phenomenal. I wish he could get drafted by a decent team, but he won't last that long in the draft. He's the Heisman winner. Everybody's saying he's not doing much, his numbers are sagging, etc, etc, and then......VOILA 513 all-purpose yards. That's crazy.

It hurts to know ND came SOOOOOO close to getting him. He was a strong lean.

At 6-0, 200 lbs he'd better run fast from those NFL linebackers. I think he can take it, though.

He can be running full speed and change direction like he hit a wall.

I always thought Bo Jackson was the best college player I ever saw but Bush could change my mind.

Bush was silly good against (a very good) Fresno.

Heisman list
Bush
Young
Quinn
Leinart (has Bush, White, et al and his stats still don't match up with Quinn's)
Jerome Harrison (1900 yards rushing 16 TDs + ~200 rec yards and a TD)

I think we all knew Fasano would be there for the Mackey, but Quinn and Samardzija?

Fine individual accolades from key players on a good team...

Reggie Bush is also the best player I've ever seen. I can't wait to see what he can do on the next level. Hopefully that will be next season.

Bush, LenDale White and Steve Smith are all reportedly looking into agents. Leinert might be back for volleyball 101.

White and Bush are as good as gone. Smith is probably out, too and Jarrett is probably gone after 2006.

Slowly but surely, things will catch up to SC again. They'll be pretty damn good, but nothing like these last four years.

I think Quinn, Fasano and Samardzija would all finish second in these votings.

Mercedes Lewis is the best TE I've seen this year.

without looking at game stats, fasano's first half of the season seemed better than the second half. imo, the second half of the season will be what keeps fasano here for one more year. he had good production, but he dropped some balls before and after the catch that made him look human.

Quinn should come in 4th in the Heisman. If Young stays next year, it should be between the two of them for the Heisman. Bush should be the "hands down" winner this year. He should be another Gale Sayers when he hits the pros, barring injury.

Shark should win the receiving award. Fasano should come in second in the tight end race. I also think he will stay and play for ND next year, but it's probably a 50-50 proposition. If he stays, that gives ND a seasoned receiving group of Fasano, Shark, McKnight, Grimes, plus another years experience for the balance of the receivers on the team. If Fasano leaves, Carlson is a more than an adequate replacement. Most of the linemen return, Morton, Sullivan, Santucci, Harris. So the O line should remain strong. QB and RB all return. This means another offensive circus next year.

Hopefully the new recruits will bolster the weak secondary. Line backer will need the most infusion of new talent.

Next year should be a mirror of this year-great offense, questionable defense. It should be another great year, especially if the defense surprises.

I agree 100%. I think his value slipped some.
