Wenger?

Wenger?

As many of you have most likely read on many of the Irish sites, it has been rumored that Wenger has committed to the Irish. Jigga any info? Again this has only been rumored and I have no idea if it is true. If it is however you have to like our chances with Young.

I read the same thread but didnt want to post because that poster wouldnt' reveal the source. "East Coast Recruiting Guru"

That could be me if I wanted it to be.

Young and Wenger were never a package deal, but this would definitely help.

Wenger was high on Florida, but apparently likes Weis and sees him as a father figure. Weis described himself as a "fat center" in high school, so they play the same spot (Wenger is not fat, of course).

The post also said that Wenger was "turned off" by Urban Meyer because he is "too emotional." Hopefully there is some credence to this information. I shrugged it off.

Now it could be SIX linemen with Young included. Which leads me to this...

I saw something Ohio State did this weekend that I liked. Tressel would line up a tackle as an eligible TE and run the ball to that side. TWO tackles blocking at the same time, one in the TE spot. How about Olson, Young, Carufel, Wenger, Stewart and Webb all on the field at once bulldozing the way for Aldridge and Company?

I like this strategy, especially in short yard downs.

Hell, no... let him cry all he wants. Especially if it turns off highly touted prospects. LOL

Best class ever as recruits, no. The Rosenthal, Wisne, Ridder Mueller, Wagner class (Feb 94) would rank higher with 3 USA TODAY First Team AAs. Rosenthal was ranked #1, Ridder got a #4. And there are probably other classes before the recruiting services became big business that would rank higher.

It would be one of the top classes but more importantly it would wipe out the depth problem immediately - at least on paper. ND would still be 2 years behind in weight training, development, and maturity. Under Weis and Latina I would expect these guys to develop quicker than the Rosenthal class that went through the Holtz/Moore/Davie/Colletto/choochoo sagas.

Some of these guys would see PT early, all would contribute.

Those six will hold a candle to these guys for sure. Depends on the publication you're looking at. Young is often ranked the best OT in America, Carufel the best OG and Wenger the best center. Olsen is top ten as an OT, Webb is at least top 15 and Stewart is top five at OG. The comparisons are there, no doubt.

BGIF, Notre Dame almost had Mike Flaar of Oswego, IL in that class as well. He was a USA Today AA and went to Illinois. Lou was all over the O line blue chippers that year.

I got Mike Rosenthal's autograph at the 94 spring game. He was massive.

Scout current OL rankings (not by OL position):
Sam Young T moved up to #3 from #4, 5 Stars
Matt Carufel G dropped 6 slots to #15 from #9, 5 Stars
Daniel Wenger C moved up to #18 from #29, 4 Stars
Chris Stewart G stayed at #30, 4 Stars
Eric Olsen G/C moved up 2 slots to #48 from #50, 4 Stars (picked up one Star)
Bartley Webb dropped 10 slots to #51 from #41, 4 Stars
Lou Eliades G dropped 7 slots from #33 to #40, 4 Stars
Jim Barrie T went moved up to #57 from NR, 3 Stars

I don't remember Mike Flaar as a ND athlete nor as a ND verbal.

I stood between Joey Getherall and Mike Rosenthal at the '97 B&G game.

David and Goliath.

Flaar came down to ND and Illinois. Went to Illinois. Not sure whatever happened to him.

I love the talent in this latest group. Mendoza will have to beef up Young and Carufel, carve up Stewart and Webb and Olsen is just flat out nasty.

Wenger as a true center will probably start in 2007. Most of these guys will.

I'm not putting much stock on the Wegner rumors. They seem to have quieted down and the Fl board are attributing them to FSU fans. I'll hold my excitement until more is known.

Yep. I saw the post and didn't bother to bring it up.

I like the idea of Wenger being a true center, but with spots remaining limited, I'd prefer Young and Carufel with a linebacker and defensive tackle anyway. And Reuland.

A lot of stuff flying around that Wenger has/is commited to ND. With Konard's verbal expected within a week and Toyran Smith to announce on the 27th and Young was promised a spot by Weis that he might have been forced to commit or possibly lose ND's offer. At least they seem to be saying this is so on the Rivals.com board and some other ND boards. But again, at this point I've seen nothing offical.

coming into today ND has five offers left (assuming ND will only have two early enrollments). the most likely five to commit to ND would've probbly have been carufel, young, reuland, mccoy and micah johnson/toyran smith. but if the wenger rumor is true then that means one of the five earlier names will be out, with it most likely being either mccoy, johnson or smith. but on a pluse note konrad reuland could be and early enrollment as could george west.

Reuland IS NOT enrolling before summer. Book it.

The staff mentioned it to West and the prospects are cold to lukewarm.
