Why does espn keep saying we have 10 national championships? Do we not have 11?

There are others that are arguable, but the above are consensus national championships.

Bama probably stole one. Win or lose on January 7th, Bama will claim it as a championship.

1973 is probably the reason for the discrepancy, and it is, sadly, not a "consensus" national championship as Title2014 is more-or-less right: Bama "stole" one. Going into the title game, Bama was #1 in both polls, while ND was #3 in the AP and #4 in the Coaches' Poll (OU and Ohio State were the others in the mix; both were undefeated, but they also both had ties on their records). They met in the Sugar Bowl and ND won by a point. At the time, the Coaches' Poll did not hold a post-bowl vote, so Bama finished at the top of that poll. The polling format was changed the following season to prevent this from happening again. Bama claims 1973 as one of their "official" national championships. Shameful. Bama fans should be reminded of this at every possible turn; it's the most egregious of their phantom championships. That's really saying something, too -- 1941 is a farce, too, and they lost their bowl game in 1964, another "championship" they claim on the basis of pre-bowl (AP) polls.
