According to the list on scout, Micah Johnson has Med interest in ND. We had dropped off his list quite awhile back. He is their #1 DT, ahead of McCoy. There is a new article, but I'm not a subscriber. He is the teammate of Leonard Gordon, one of our safety commits. I wonder if Mr. Gordon is doing a bit of recruiting.

well it seems that ND has re-entered the micah johnson race again. from what i understand georgia and kentucky lead with ND gaining ground, this could be interesting. this guy could play OLB, MLB, DE or DT.

He might be a little small for DE (6'2"--231) but is being recruited as a LB by ND. We are getting into the race late but He is impressed with Weis and the job he has done. Last report he was trying to come to the Tenn game.

Georgia is the one to beat for this guy and it won't be easy but if he makes the Tenn game the Weis charm could be the difference.

Kentucky???? What does he play basketball too? I could not imagine a quality recruit like this even considering going to Kentucky to play football.

Micah is listed as 6"2-275 pounds and runs a 4.9 sounds pretty good to me. His marks are a little suspect and that is why we are late in the process.

Micah and Leonard Gordon were scheduled to attend the second Junior Day as a result of Coach Cutcliffe's recruiting. Micah cancelled when Cutcliffe became ill. I am glad that CW and his staff continue to recruit this kid and I trust he is making the effort to improve his grades-he would be a great add.

He's a homegrown kid. It wouldn't be the first time a prized recruit stayed home at UK. Remember Dennis Johnson? He was a pretty highly rated DE who went to UK and had a pretty good career there.

I hve seen him listed anywhere from 231 to 275. He is also playing RB and is being recruited by some at that position but at ND he will be a LB. No doubt he is a good catch whatever his weight or position.

i've read that he'd be a DE or DT at ND. i've also read that he compares a lot to bryant young.

I've got him listed as a 6-2, 267 strongside DE/inside LB with 4.7 speed. Intriguing. Has offers from UGA (Only visit), scUM, VaTech and others. His video from his senior year is pretty good. Moves fast, hits hard.

Also, Charlie Weis attended Gerald McCoy's practice last week during the bye. How bad do they want him Irish? That's really something.

Regarding any of these recruits, the only thing that's certain is the amount of effort Weis is PERSONALLY putting into it. We will never be able to say he has left a stone unturned. The man is a workhorse. He seems to be at two places at the same time. If his staff stays together, what a great couple of years we'll have. If ND gave him $30 million, as reported, they got a steal.

Which is a good thing and something that you rarely see anymore. Alot of these top kids want to know what is in it for them and how often will I be on television (which is why ND will start to get these top notch kids again with C-Dub at the healm.) What's in it for me? A quality education, coach with NFL experience and connections, the chance to be a part of the "rebirth of ND football", great atmosphere, etc...

How often will I be on television? Hell, we all know the answer to that one. When aren't you going to be on television? I keep waiting for NBC to put one of those peacocks between Touchdown Jesus' hands.

God, I love Notre Dame.

Think about this BigDon: the man has three Super Bowl rings. He's taken a group that was 6-6 and turned it around to 5-2 with an offense that is breaking records. 3 rings is three rings. That will last ten years from now.

Whatsmore, he ENJOYS the hunt, the chase, the competition. The kid has an offer from SC or UM? Great. California, Texas, Florida, Jersey, Chicago...whatever. Seniors, juniors. So many coaches HATE being on the road recruiting. Not this guy.

This is why the previous regime failed, not racism. Pro active recruiting will win National Championships. Look at the resources ND has!! A network in all 50 states.

Micah Johnson moved from Alexandria, VA after his sophomore year.

He's been in Kentucky for two years now.

Having lived in Lexington for a couple years, I don't find this unusual at all. For as terrible as the UK football program is, they have phenomenal facilities and people, lots of people, show up for the games. That is a program, with a good coach, could do incredible things. They have a huge fan base, great facilites, and play in a very good conference. UK football travels better than most of the teams in the SEC and most of the teams in the country. Bowls would drool over getting UK in their stadium. The ineptitude of the coaches (which I think is the problem currently) goes back to Adolph Rupp getting Bear Bryant fired because he wanted to be the top dog. The Rich Brooks hiring was a joke.

In -state recruits always have UK listed high. There is very good football in the state but Louisville has been getting most of it lately. (e.g. Michael Bush and Brian Brohm)

Yeah, it amuses me that UK won't pony up and get a good coach and get serious about football. I know they are a basketball school, but their fans still fill the stadium on Saturdays. It's not like they don't have the money.

And yes, there is talent in Kentucky. Lexington, Louisville and Northern KY (basically an extension of Cincinnati) have some very good programs that produce some talent.

I like Micah a lot.

The video shows that he hits and finishes hard. No one gets away from him. It looks like he doesn't miss much.

All of the tape shows him at LB. What a defensive tackle he'd make...

Defensively, I like moving guys closer to the line. Make your safeties linebackers, linebackers defensive ends, etc.

BINGO, Scooper!!

I love it. Miami and Florida State utilize this philosophy quite often. The proof is in the pudding.

You don't want to move guys backward in the opposite direction. Moving closer = tons of speed. That's why I like the Apache spot so much. A hybrid backer/safety. Very similar to what I was in my Animal House days.

Right on Scooper. All good defenses have speed. not only in the DB's, but across the line. FSU and Miami have shown us that for years. Va. Tech has it now.

It is one ingredient lacking in ND at present. There are a few guys like Wooden who have it but it is not across the board. The guys we're recruiting like McCoy etc.will bring that. The DB's coming in like Walls,McNeil etc. will upgrade the speed level. The DL remains the part of the puzzle I hope we can solve.

Seeing them live, SC had it up front in the box. They close very quickly.

ND has hard hitters. More speed is clearly the way they're recruiting.

I'd really like to see Minter get some big cards to play an even stronger hand.

Well it's great to see a #1 ranked prospect listing ND. It'd be even better if his GPA was higher than the published 2.3 and if he had a test score.

Johnson reports a 2.3 GPA/October first-time ACT/November first-time SAT.

Meanwhile his teammate at Fort Campbell HS, ND verbal Leonard Gordon has a 3.9 and is taking his 4th AP course.

He visits this weekend.

I'm guessing that if things don't work out with admissions, he's not getting an offer.

Hopefully that meeting goes well on Sunday.

He now has an offer after this weekend.

He counted to 12 and they told him he could stop.

Thanks for the update Jiggs. If this guy has an offer he has passed Admissions. He was at the Navy game. He may not be a rocket scientist but he is one hell of a football player. AND DO WE NEED DL? All we can get!

Johnson getting an offer now might be because the coaches don't like their chances with McCoy and or kates. Johnson looks like a stud, but I am surprised to see him get an offer with such a low GPA. Paddy had a 2.5, and he had a fairly hard time getting one. ND needs to land at least one DT in this class so maybe they made an exception for him. Regardless I'm sure they checked him out to make sure he can handle the load at ND.

I raised an eyebrow over a 2.3 and no test score. But keep in mind that report was published months ago with no update. Last Spring or Summer Gordon and teammate Johnson were supposed to visit ND. Gordon came but Johnson didn't. Possibly he was told then, make the grade.

ND has access to current GPA and some numbers for that Oct test. If an offer was issued it was based on improvement. And such an offer would be predicated on continued progress and not dropping off.

Last summer Mullen reported ND had told him they wanted to see better grades and he stated he was committed to improvement. Mullen was reported with a 2.5 GPA a month or so back. That was a raise from the 2.3 reported at the end of his junior year. I'll submit any of the borderline (ND's borderline not the NCAA's) admissions will get continued scrutiny.

Nice work on the Paddy Mullen reference, BGIF.

We REALLY had to pick it up with the books.
