Time to hand the reigns back to Tommy Rees

I know that the kid routinely gets slammed on these boards. However the truth of the matter is that the offense just runs so much better when he is at the helm. It's just time to make a permanent change.

Bottom line is that you play to win the games. Maybe Golson will further develop and be a star at some point. Unfortunately that time hasn't arrived yet.

Tommy needs to be the man behind center right now. Especially if we have any hopes of BCS games.[/QUOTE]

I wouldnt eat too much. Nobody could have guessed that EG was going to have the game of his life against OU a couple weeks ago.
All anybody knew was that BK thought he was the future.
He wasnt exactly showing on the field, during the games, what BK was seeing in him. So anybody on the board that wants to hold up their head shuldnt be holding it too high.

With that said. I am a Rees supporter but seeing how EG had an outstanding game and has shown his ability and potential to be better in the future. Im still glad we have Rees as backup.

I quoted the OP. I'm a Notre Dame supporter. None of us have the insight that the coaching staff has. Second guessing their decisions as to who is the starting quarterback is pointless.

I'm extremely glad that Rees is there to back up EG as well. He's come through when he's had to.

It's funny how two fans can be watching the same game a see different things. I saw his progression so I will go ahead and hold my head up as high as I want to. Even if he throws two picks next week I'll support EG. I have faith in him and this staff. Now let's hope he can keep getting better each and every week.

ps - This is by far my favorite thread for many reasons.

My feelings are largely unchanged.

Rees played well in the first quarter. Didn't turn the ball over. Let the running game dictate the offense.

People are forgetting how Golson looked the week before.

And how about now? Still "largely unchanged?"

Much respect to Rees - he saved a few games for the Irish this year. But It's time for Golson to be in for good.

I'm all EG, but honestly I think he settled down after he was pulled. EG needs to keep on keeping on, but TR helped us tonight, even with and INT. EG is still learning, but he's getting there!

Tommy can't give us the kind of playmaking ability that Golson can. Yeah, Golson is gonna have his days....but who doesn't??!!!!

Stick with the playmaker.

Golson is the man. Tommy should only go in for clean up time or if there is an injury.

What's crazy is if our defense doesn't stop Pitt after Golson's INT everyone on here is screaming for Kiel or someone else since Golson would have never had the chance to redeem himself

Guys, Tommy Rees had 18 TOs last year. Let's not forget how painful that was to watch. Yes, he's making the correct pre-snap reads and that's obviously important. Once he recognizes the all-out blitz, he just lofts it up and the WRs so far have made GREAT plays when Tommy has been in, out-playing the DB in one on one situations. Golson is not as good at Tommy at this, but let's not act like Tommy's out there dissecting a defense. Give him a full game against a team like Stanford, and I'd bet the stat line looks like this: 7 sacks, a fumble, 2 INTs (where he just lofts it up over the middle because when he's pressured it's either that or sack).

He's still the physically limited Tommy from last year. Still has no feet, a weak arm, and makes questionable throws when pressured (look at first drive of Miami game).

Tommy's played good in his limited role. His receivers have made some damn good plays to help him out.

To me EG has done more for us than what TR has when you compare the two in an absolutely similar situation (i.e. a goal-to-go situation with us being down and making a comeback) but other than that I agree with everything you have said.

Tommy Rees should be nothing more than this team's Brian Scalabrine, i.e. "The Human Victory Cigar."

Not sure if it's been said (probably has been) but we lose that game if EG stays on the sidelines. We needed Golson's mobility.

It's not EG's fault we didn't score a TD early in the game(poor play calling IMO). Why did Kelly stay with tommy after the helmet came off?

I was at the game, and EG was missing people the whole first half. And he wouldn't run when he had the chance either. There was one play in the red zone where he had TWO guys wide open AND he had a lane to run, and instead he threw to his first read, who was covered. It was maddening.

I didn't agree with Rees starting the 2nd half, but I also don't agree with those saying that it wasn't on EG. The coaches deserved some blame, but EG wasn't very good that first half either.

But he was nails that 4th quarter though...

Thanks for the info. sophomore qb's are going to miss reads I just think you use halftime to coach instead of switching qb's and changing tempos. I guess only those that are in he locker room really know what BK's thought process was....
